Post by: DarkAngel on January 21, 2009, 03:51:10 PM
Ive just purchased a game through Steam and ive found im only getting 150Kb's on the download speed, is there anyway to increase the transfer rate? My connection is 15Mb Unlimited and im findind it odd thats its going so slow, or are they peer rates?

should be a bit higher but it will vary. Have you checked your connection settings in steam recently?

if it is slow it is sometimes worth logging out of steam and logging in again.

Have you a router/firewall? Done all the port forwarding stuff?

Some games download slower than others. If there's a deal on the servers get clogged up. I've had rates at upto 1.5mb/s and as low as 15kb/s.
Not much can be done to change it. Just choose the right time of day etc. Quitting can help.

This has proven to be the solution for me and has worked most of the time. Try and restarting the steam app from time to time?

Game was less than £5 which is cheaper than the shops and no fuel cost :)

I would suggest to download during the day. Evenings are always slow.

Bit off topic I know, but did anyone buy Bioshock when it was on sale through Steam?  and if so are you having problems getting it to run?

My copy crashes at the opening splash screen (small bioshock logo) and thats as far as I've got

Tried a few fixes via the Steam forum but no joy - any dmw'ers had the same issue?
