Can all of you interested in playing in the up coming please report on the Match server on Tuesday 3rd February at 20:00 (UK time) for some practice - their choice of map is Crash, ours is Backlot - so bring your brains.

Please ensure you've got xac intalled and working, also ED requires each player to make demos of each match, just in case there is a challenge on the result.  Therefore, can you also make sure you know how to make demos - there are details in the ED rules.

No worries guys, the ladder maps are the same so we can get some more practice on Monday - I'd still like as many as poss to turn up on Tuesday so we can make sure that XAC is working, etc.

Hmm, still need to get XAC installed.

Do we have the ED rulesets for the new match mod?  I know the server said it was playing hardcore tonight, but from what I've read PAM4 will override those settings to whatever ruleset is loaded. (ED has rulesets for all game types, normal and hardcore)
Title: ED Challenge vs BoSs, 8th Feb @ 19:00
Post by: Blunt on February 03, 2009, 11:18:15 PM
I didn't realise that PAM4 is the mod you will play in the match:blink::doh:
It's a bit different to hardcore.
at the start of each map, or when you want to switch kit, you have to specify weapons, attachments and perks. this takes a few secs so you will want to familiarise yourselves with that.
Spawn protection for a few seconds means (I presume) that you can't be shot for a few seconds after you spawn.
UAV seems to last for 5-10 secs before it disappears.
Weapons seem to be much harder to aim, and react totally differently to what we are used to.
I recommend you try this in plenty of time.
test your Teamspeak as well

AFAIK all of the settings are dependent on the ruleset being played.  I've had a quick look over the ED HC ruleset and we really need to load it up and see what's what, because there are some things to get used to:

- Stun grenades, C4, Claymores and RPGs are disabled.
- SMGs: P90 and Skorpion are DISABLED!, ACOG disabled for all SMGs
- Sniper: Cannot drop your weapon, only M40 and R700 allowed
- LMG: Cannot drop your weapon, no attachments allowed!
- Shotgun: Cannot drop your weapon, no attachments.
- Assault rifle: no ACOG, no grenade launcher.
- Perks: only Bandolier, Stopping Power or Sleight of Hand, Iron Lungs allowed.
- UAV/Airstrike/Heli: Haven't been able to check, but the ruleset indicates these are disabled.
- No respawn delay.
- No spawn protection.

Anyone who wants to check it out themselves can get the PAM mod complete with ED config and rulesets from this thread:

You need to execute one of the PAM mode commands (listed below) once you are on the server and then do a /fast_restart

Quote************* The ED configs ****************

*** Standard Enemydown Configs
pam_mode ed / For all gametypes (10 rounds per half in S&D)
pam_mode edmr12 / S&D config altered for MR12 (12 rounds per half)
pam_mode edmr15 / S&D config altered for MR15 (15 rounds per half)

*** Perks On Enemydown Configs
pam_mode ed_perks / For all gametypes (10 rounds per half in S&D)
pam_mode ed_perksmr12 / S&D config altered for MR12 (12 rounds per half)
pam_mode ed_perksmr15 / S&D config altered for MR15 (15 rounds per half)

*** Hardcore Enemydown Configs
pam_mode ed_hc / For all gametypes (10 rounds per half in S&D)
pam_mode ed_hcmr12 / S&D config altered for MR12 (12 rounds per half)
pam_mode ed_hcmr15 / S&D config altered for MR15 (15 rounds per half)

*** Competition Enemydown Configs
pam_mode ed_cup / For all gametypes (12 rounds per half in S&D)
pam_mode ed_cupmr10 / S&D config altered for MR10 (10 rounds per half)
pam_mode ed_cupmr15 / S&D config altered for MR15 (15 rounds per half)

If you will only ever play one type of contest (eg, pam_mode ed_hc) then I can hardcode that into the server config but at present you need to choose what to load and load it via rcon.

Thanks BB, that now makes alot more sense :)

I'm currently trying out the ED HC config and have noticed the following:

Perk 1:  Only Bandolier allowed!
Perk 2:  Only Sleight of Hand and Stopping Power allowed!
Perk 3:  Only Iron Lungs allowed!

Only 1 heavy gunner, sniper and demolitions allowed per team and only Assault and Spec Ops drop their weapons when dead!

Assault Rifles:  All allowed, grenade launchers & ACOG scopes are NOT allowed.
SMGs:  P90 and Skorpion are NOT allowed, red dot and ACOG sights are NOT allowed.
Shotguns:  All allowed, grip and red dot sight are NOT allowed.
Sniper Rifles:  Only M40 and R700 allowed, all options available.
LMGs:  All available, no options available!
Pistols:  All available, all options available.
Grenades:  Stun grenades are NOT allowed!

If anybody wants a bit more match practice, I'll be loitering for a while longer :)

Some more investigation has shown:

There are no machine gun emplacements on Backlot (will have to check other maps).

Once on the server, you can preconfigure your favourite loadouts within the limits outlines above, but you do need to select accept each time.

Tryed the MOD tonight, you have to get used to it a bit and the best thing to do is to team up.
Also, when you die, you spawn near a teamm8.
Might be helpfull to remember when the match is on.

As said to Armitage, not sure if I'm up for playing, will let you know.

Post by: Lexander on February 08, 2009, 01:27:07 PM
Quote from: DuVeL;262476How does that work exactly Lex?

As far as I know.
1.   In ALL official ED matches, demos are required from all players.
•   /record demofilename
•   /stoprecord

and the rules:

CoD4 (8) Demo Requests

As part of our ongoing attempt to enforce the ED rules we will be requesting match demos on a random basis. I'd like to remind you of the rules regarding the recording of demo's:-

1.   All official matches are to have Demos recorded by all players, whether demos are requested in the match settings or not. Demos are to be kept for a minimum of 10 days. Admins can request a demo from any player at anytime within the 10 days after the match being played and teams prior to conflicting can request a maximum of 2 demos from the opposition. Failure to submit the requested demos will result in the player being suspended. Failing to submit a demo on multiple occasions may result in the player being banned from EnemyDown. If a Clan Leader fails to submit a demo upon request it may lead to the removal of the clan from the EnemyDown Ladder.

The punishments for not submitting your demo's will be as follows:-

•   1st offence - 2 week ban from any matches
•   2nd offence - 1 month ban from any matches
•   3rd offence - 6 months ban from any matches
•   4th offence - 1 year ban from any matches

If your match is chosen please help us by following these guidelines before submitting them.

•   - Nominate one player to collect all your teams demos
•   - Name them correctly i.e. include the players name in the filename
•   - Zip them all up together and upload the file to the numerous free upload services show at the forum link below. If the zipfile is too large split it up and name accordingly i.e. yourclan-demos1.zip and yourclan-demos2.zip.
•   - PM the requesting Admin with the download location
•   - Assuming the demo's can be downloaded, they are all present and correct then you having else to do

If you have your demo's requested you will need to get them to us within 10 days that rule applies to the opposition team if they request them as well, failure to do this will result in the above punishment structure coming into affect. If you are having trouble getting them speak to us, don't just leave it thinking it's going to go away! No one likes dishing out bans so don't make us do it.

TEAMS THAT CONSTANTLY ABUSE THE DEMO REQUESTS MAY HAVE THE RIGHT REMOVED. THE ABILITY TO REQUEST DEMOS IS THERE TO ALLOW CLANS TO HOPEFULLY RESOLVE ANY ISSUE PRIOR TO A CONFLICT. CLANS CAN REQUEST ALL DEMOS OFF EVERY PLAYER FROM THE OPPOSITION THAT TAKES PART IN ANY ED MATCH

Read all the rules in ED page, and I know they are really long but we need to follow them presicely or the ban hammer will be used.

i beleive you type in the console :

/record demofilename

to start recording (filename of your choice)

/stoprecord

        to end recording

then if required to send it in, you retreive the file from your cod4/main/demos

i think....

to watch the demos after recording use this (http://www.cybopat.net/download/progs/cod4player.zip)

Well, we got fairly well humped, but I think we did quite well considering we hadn't played ED rules before, and they obviously knew the maps and their tactics very well.

Good news is it looks like our performance may have been good enough to bag us 4th place in the ladder once it updates. :D

yeah they were annoyingly good (especially at bunny hopping) :sideways:

found it very hard to settle into any kind of rythmn
but as a first time out i'll  use it a learning curve.

was fun

Well done guys - that's the first one down

Did you pick up any new tactics, etc, that can be fed back to the rest of us?  Does our tactical approach work in matches?
Title: ED Challenge vs BoSs, 8th Feb @ 19:00

as said , they were very good at bouncing round corners.
Not sure if that would be adopted or even should be, but they definatly made it work :(
As for other tactic's i will watch the replay back tonight and see what i notice :)

Once we managed to get Punkbuster to allow us on it was good fun.  They defo knew all the vantage points and seemed to move from one to the other, rarely getting caught in the open.
I think it would make things easier if we all agreed names or codes for locations, I was sometimes a bit lost for words when trying to explain where someone was ( hes on the ladder up the alley by the doo daa thingy).
The mod was definately different but I did enjoy the game play ( one for the private server?), and it leveled the playing field some what with no radar or choppers etc.
Looking forward to the next one.

Well what a match. It's taken me 3 day to recover enough just to be able to talk about it:crying:

They did jump about a bit. Even though I don't like it, 99% of the world play  FPS's that way, so we're stuck there.:nope:

Our communication was just about ok for most of the game, but we do need to name places on the map. (Any volunteers)

Tactics and planning went to pot, 1st map we struggled to move anywhere on the the map without getting picked off, but it got better when we picked 2 parts of high ground on the map and defended each in turn until we were over run. 2nd map started close using the same tactics, but once they got a lead we fell about.

Personally I just got killed to many times. I was killing ok but K:D ratio was not pretty and my head dropped half way threw the second map. I just wanted it over :blush2:

Thoughts for the next match.

Avoid TDM. We play better with a clear objective. Our strong point from CS days has always been defending, lets play on that.

Practice. I popped on to the BoSs server 2 hours before the match and they were playing a full 4v4 practice session. So may be a later start time would let us play the maps before the game.

Next match guys. This was a hard one, but remember these guys are ranked number one on the ladder

Yeah, my only suggestion would be to play some easier teams. :D

personally i think i suffered from lack of match practice with the mod,
if Punkbuster had behaved, we may have had a bit of time before the match started to run thru a few things.:ranting2:

maybe next time we could get the team together a couple of nights before the match to run thru tactic's and remind ourselves of PAM 4

as for naming map sections i remember seeing a cod4 site somewhere with names for all the buildings and stuff. will have a look see if i can find it again :)

Some people were on Fridaynight for a runthrough of the Mod and it might eb a good idea yeah to have atleast a 4 vs 4 or higher then.

A suggestion for all, add CoD4 to your Steam so you can invite people through that.

:withstupid:
As I understand it, if you start CoD4 via the Steam games launch option, you can use the steam console whilst in game.
It's very handy for doing invites ("invite to game" does NOT work) and also for admin chat
