You've missed Snokio I think.

There were a few new faces on the server tonight as well and the post by Garra about the cheap key purchase will bring them rolling in. I saw it mentioned in another post of his and told him to stick it in the bargains section in it's own thread.

You have DA listed twice - which is one too many

You have Frenzy listed once - same reason

Just a reminder ...

The badge is not just for turning up. It denotes a player who fully understands the rules, guidelines and ethos of the game concerned and consistantly demonstrates those principles whilst playing.

Yup, which is why I mentioned the teething issues. I think they've all been sorted and I've not seen any reason why any of them couldn't wear them.

That said I posted the list so y'll could argue if you felt otherwise.

We are all still learning, to some extent, and some of those listed do tend to wander. But with a few well chosen comments could be bought into line and they're not strangers to the dMw ethos.

I have notice a tendency for some people to swear when things go pants.
Maybe they think this doesn't matter as it is a small private server? Something to keep on top of I think. I also understand the occasional frustration, Tank within 30 seconds of leaving the safe room springs to mind, that might trigger an expletive. They just need to learn a more acceptable one, pants or gusset spring to mind.

If we have them as triallists we can always weed out the chaff.
What is the default trial period or is it an indefinite term?
Title: Admins & Badges
Post by: Benny on February 03, 2009, 03:06:31 PM
The swearing is a tough one. I'll try to prevent (and stop myself), but it's worth noting the game is an '18' and contains swearing.

That said, it's easy enough not to. I tend to go by the 9/10 watershed.

On the tags, I'll dish out the normals and amend the message to say

'blah blah', stay with your team, etc etc can be revoked, 'yada yada'

The other games, I think, have 6 months as a trial (or is it 3 months?)

This is a hard one. As a Community we do not endorse our encourage swearing. That said, any attendee to the LAN knows that we all do swear (myself included).

The fact that it has a 18+ rating should be enough but I think we should discourage it only for the sake of conformity across all our games. In CS / COD someone would get kicked for it.

Not saying that you should kick people for it but I guess we should actively discourage it so every game is dealt with an even hand. Whilst it's a private server it's less of a problem (I know MH on a Friday can get fruity). When/if it goes public then it really does need to be enforced for the good of the Community as a whole.

(Please note, I'm not taking the moral high ground here, I'm as bad as anyone.)

It's like everything in this world. it's about excess. Up until a little while ago I had to be reminded by my good lady, the present Mrs Doorman, that I was swearing to excess. Sometimes though, nothing else will do. :norty: We're all big boys and ought to be able to stifle ourselves sometimes. But let's not get too PC eh? :sideways:

Garaa plays a lot. But I don't know if he's very dMw-ish. He goes off and hides in closets when hordes come. If someone gets puked on he runs and hides. Self preservation society rather than taking one for the team?
Or have I misjudged him and only noticed the exceptions? :g:

If you need more admins and feel these guys are suitable then it's entirely your call. I would advise against asking for opinions - they can be divided.

Quote from: Benny;270012Also, what is TentSalesmans forum name? Still Tut?

He is Tutonic. Not sure where you're going with this but under our current guidelines he doesn't qualify for a green badge let alone admin status.
Title: Admins & Badges
Post by: Benny on March 25, 2009, 03:52:35 PM
Sorry, should have been clearer. Not for admins, simply for badges.

My rule of thumb is if no-one objects they get a badge, if anyone objects they don't. That way there's no opinion issues.

With regard to admins, I'll sort that out over the next few weeks.

Cheers

If it is only for badges then the first three are fine by me. Brown is new to it and learning the game so gets easily confused, didn't we all. TentSalesman might be OK, but from what I can remember he is a bit of a loner, gaming wise. Maybe that is just my imagination? I'll keep an eye out the next time he's on.

Actually, he plays really well, makes good use of voice comms and used to be a Charlie (before the great cull of 2008 :flirty:) but he hasn't made a single forum post in years. Not since he upped sticks to become a part of 12K and eventually a senior Enemy Down admin. I know him IRL too as he's my son's best mate but he needs to be active on the forum again before he can be considered for a gaming badge. God I'm strict :)

So.....

Tox to be added. Next on the list is T-Bag. Going to dish it out later unless anyone whinges. He seems a good guy, always plays well and gets involved.

Speak now or forever hold your piece. I'm also going to give to Browne as whilst he is often on the wrong end of a vom or tongue he gets stuck in like everyone else.

I don't think people who don't play a game can complain if they loose a badge (me and L4D for example). It's a simple matter to get it back :)

Badges need to be relevant or what's the point. So as long as they're not lifetime awards I say prune away.
Title: Admins & Badges
Post by: Armitage on January 07, 2010, 07:56:13 PM
I thought the original concept was that they were to be life time awards.
Title: Admins & Badges
Post by: Penfold on January 07, 2010, 08:28:20 PM
I thought it was up to the SA. I know Whitey for example designated the CS badge as life-time.
Title: Admins & Badges
Post by: smilodon on January 07, 2010, 10:48:16 PM
And I thought L4d was to show active players, hence my comments. Maybe I'm wrong? It's not uncommon :)
Title: Admins & Badges
Post by: Benny on January 07, 2010, 11:52:29 PM
Knew I'd start something. I would have said it was active players. I have no problem if my CS badge is taken off me for example.

From an outside perspective it would be people you could turn to for guidance in your particular choice?

Hornets nest?
Title: Admins & Badges
Post by: Whitey on January 08, 2010, 08:43:36 AM
We'd discussed this before and we'd said that the general game badges (not WoW due the the way they are awarded) are for life.  Once you have earned the badge it shows you know how the game should be played.  There's not many of us that would forget how we play CS (for example) just because we have a break for a while.

Anyway it's good to debate these things every now and again. :)
Title: Admins & Badges
Post by: Benny on January 08, 2010, 09:15:47 AM
Ok, so I caused a fuss. Happy days, I'm not going to reinstate them (yet), but I won't remove any more.

Just for arguments sake can I have a WoW badge? I used to play, never will again, but hook me up.
Oh and a DMR badge? I used to play and would like to again, but can't set up at the moment...

I guess my point is that everyone who gets one badge is pretty much entitled to every other badge under that statement. We all know how we are expected to play within the community. So why not have a 'community' badge? <- moot.

I've re-read the original threads and am happy to say I'm squarely in the wrong so am happy to go with whatever people want. If you want me to reinstate I can do, I have the original list.

Just before anyone jumps on me, it was Whiteys fault, he said discussion was good.
Title: Admins & Badges
Post by: smilodon on January 08, 2010, 11:40:29 AM
If we already agreed this then fair enough and I do remember it being discussed but have to admit I must have got the wrong end of the stick about how we retain them.

Benny does make a good point though as I have played plenty of Cod4 and CS in my time and understand the ethos for both games. If so there might need to be a lot of retrospective badge awards to make everything consistent.

Or we could just leave it all alone as the community doesn't seem to be making any issue about badges?
Title: Admins & Badges
Post by: Snokio on January 08, 2010, 06:55:39 PM
With regards to competitive badges as well, I think there should be a 'expiry date', some people only play one match and never play again, might be because they have now achieved their badge..... or they might of realised we are crap at competitive play which is probably more than likely , but this might help enable us to get people to sign up and play more than once?

Just my 2 cents (enter 2cents smiley thingy here)

:)
Title: Admins & Badges
Post by: Blunt on January 08, 2010, 07:07:00 PM
I'm quite happy for people who have earned the badge to keep the badge, with maybe the exception of the competitive badges.
I find it quite useful to be able to see what games a member has played with us (there are too many to remember)

I will be doing a cull of CS:S and CoD4 admins in the next few days, as this is in the same category as competitive badges imho.
