Hi Guys n Gals,
I have been keeping my eye on the CSS server lately and I have noticed it be very quiet down there. (Meat Hook night not included)
I think this is mainly because of the new influx of games but also (maybe) the server has got a bit tired and dusty.
I mean how long has the current map circle been in place?
Well, one night when I was wandering around the servers like a drunk on a friday night looking for a pub with a late licence I came across a very lively server setup like I have never seen before.
Here are a few points I think we could try to spice up good old CS
Better skins and sounds all round.
The server I found had skins set server side. All the CTs looked the same no matter what class you choose I felt this gave an added element to being in the 'team'
The T's also all looked simular with much nicer skins
The weapons skins were all different, cleaner and had new sounds.
Although these changes are only cosmetic It seemed to give the game a new lease of life for me.
Different map rotation - Here in dMw we (for some time) have had the luxury of testing many custom maps.
I think we should mix up the most popular maps with the very best custom maps.
publics won't always leave on a map download.
Map vote option - I think this is a big one because you never know who's on the server with map choice the majority of players get the map they want, hence staying on the server and attracting more players.
I know to some these changes would be controverisal but what harm would it do to change an empty server for a few weeks to see if things spice up?
Although I think we should keep it TCS at all times.
Just a few thoughts anyway
Zoot!
I would give my support to changes in this vein, particularly the inclusion of (high quality) custom maps. With maps on fast download it's not really an issue I think.
Any other cosmetic changes would need to be carefully considered so that the balance is not tipped to the point where Boomer is purely a 'fun' server ie. nothing gimmicky! :)
Make it into a GunGame server, id play on it a lot more then ^^. Although i think we had the discussion it wasnt teamplay, although hell its a lot of fun.
I like the mapvote option, and custom sounds could be fun.

Pretty much what I was referring to in maintaining the balance of serious TCS. .. :roflmao:
Take TCS off the servers, slap on some classic maps, get some 'newbies' then introduce them to TCS on meathook nights! and Hey Presto! a booming CS section :)
Then further down the line we can put TCS back on the boomer :)
TCS isnt the problem CSS has more competition than ever and needs to shine its shoes thats all.
what about some custom aim maps every now and then?
We have had a number of custom maps on Boomer during it's lifetime and you always get new players disconnecting when one comes on due to the download or just not knowing the map. The current rotation was last updated after Christmas with the last of the custom maps being removed.
We also removed most of the custom skins used by the admins as it was slowing down map loads for first time users and we don't want to put people off before they even join the game.
Keep the suggestions coming :)
When I go on for a quick blast everyone is on COD4.
Servers are empty so I go back to WOW.
2 pence:
GunGame and Aim maps do provide fun - I promise you. I don't think it would hurt to add these to the mapcycle or even just to the votemap list? That way if the likes of myself, b00n, DA are on the server then at least we can votemap and get some interest going.
TCS is still valid on 'normal' maps where team play is important defuse bomb etc. of course and these can be played with vigor on a Friday on MH as usual :D
I'm sure there are players out there who would join a server with GG or and Aim map running and then they can be introduced to the game play that we enjoy so much.
Hook 'em in I say ;-)

I agree that custom stuff while it looks good does not do for getting new players in. Sounds etc? I don't think are a good idea.
I think having some Aim or GG maps is fine though as many people will already have them or ownt mind downloading the map itself when they see a full server.

What's the point of changing our fabulous gaming tactics to GG or aim?? You can find hundreds of those ones elsewhere.. Maybe we could try putting GG and aim on another server and then introduce the new ones to TCS??
My Idea was to keep TCS at all costs because its fab.
I do think we need at least map vote and more maps.

Our gaming tactics are fab yes :D however we are talking about encouraging new people on to our servers and even convincing some of our own regulars to play also! Yes you can find hundreds elsewhere....maybe that's telling us something? Like they are popular? All I'm saying is that having a few of those sort of maps on the server votemap might help. I'm not saying we change the server to a GG or Aim, just have them as an option.
I can remember myself posting the same question about 3 or 4 years ago.
I can't remember the exact answers I got, but the gist of them was "people drift in and out of games, don't worry" "It's the season, people have RL things to do, don't worry" "CZ is an old game and not very exiting, something else will come along in a minute, don't worry"
The thing they all had in common was "don't worry"
That bit was great advice because look what happened since then.
:flirty:
I honestly dont think the problem is our map rotation nor our TCS rules..
Lately there has been a lot of games bumping out, which has "taken" away a load of the CSS player base, games like COD4 and l4d is seeing a troumendous increase in players, and they need to come somewhere from.. alot of our old regular css players now play games like COD4 and L4D and similar..
Tho i have also noticed a decrease in actually player activity, people come and go thats just life, but lately the influx of players is no where near the amount going away to other games, and some spending more time real life..
Myself havent played 24/7 like i used too, as ive just moved a few months back, and the office hasnt been completed before last friday where i got the tables so i could start constructing the new table.. :)
Ive also started to increase the amount of PR on other boards and other different channels to increase the influx of newcomers to dMw, and suggest others do so too :)
Im going to have a real meeting with the other war arranger Kknd, one of these nights so we can get matches going regularly, tho this also requires a active match players base.. The match section is currently close to others then admins and the old charlies but seniors citizens are working on it i hope :)
If we could get regular matches going, we could get a lot of PR to our CSS section.. So i strongly suggest people to hopefully support and sign up for these matches when they come up..
just my thoughts..
24/7 dust 2 attracts many people.. maybe we could set up another server? :g:
Quote from: Jewelz^;26200024/7 dust 2 attracts many people.. maybe we could set up another server? :g:
and then you'll have half the team playing dust2 and the other half on boomer playing office!
How about we try putting all the offical maps and map vote on for the time being.
And put something along those lines on the server name. see if it helps.
Quote from: Jewelz^;26200024/7 dust 2 attracts many people.. maybe we could set up another server? :g:
24/7 dust2 would make me cry. As if it wasn't played to death already! :(
Quote from: Jewelz^;26200024/7 dust 2 attracts many people.. maybe we could set up another server? :g:
Then we would just be another 24/7 dust two server and get lost in the crowd, and honestly, that map isnt even good..
Let's make an 24/7 Assault & Office and the server would be full 24/7!!:D
I would personally play more but I've got a huge load of stuff going on in RL right now. I'm graduating from college so I've got all that stuff going on. And I'm taking part in a Finland wide chef competition so I got to practise A LOT! And then comes the work that fills up all the extra hours..
how about having 'Tactical Play' or something similar in the server name? many 'outsiders' wont have a clue what TCS means until they've been on the server or the forums!

"Tactical CSS, the way it was meant to be"Bit long I know :sideways:
Just had a brainwave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If Boomer is quiet, get three or four friends to go on a public server somewhere. We will be promoting TCS style by our presence. Then we talk about going on Boomer and people start looking for or asking about 'dMw' :D

Advertising our server on other servers will result in a kick/ban 99% of the time.

I think the crucial words in my reply were:

It depends how you bring it and if you have read their server rules.
If you say; We're off to our server for some TCS, people might ask what it is and admins don't have a problem with it.
Had the situation a few times, sometimes even the admin trying our style...
