Once the forum permissions and scripts are in place I'm planning to take one good long crawl through the whole forum checking each user group and each forum to make sure everything is as it should be. There was nothing at all wrong with the original structure but as Penfold and I have made so many additions and changes I'm sure there will need to be a period of tweaking and bug hunting till everything is spot on.
One thing I would like clarification on is exactly what we have agreed in the way of privileges on the forum. The private forums access is sorted but I'm keen to make sure I have the max post count, avatar and signature files allowances correct.
Basically who gets what? It also occurs to me that maybe we need to think about post counts for the various admins who are not £12 pa supporters. In order to be effective as admins would they need an increased post count? We ask them to admin for us and then maybe don't give them the tools to do their jobs. Is that a fair point or can a Game and Publci admin or a WOW Council member do their jobs with a limited post count?
I may have missed a post that details who gets what but if not it would be good to get something listed here that we can all see and refer back to.
Interesting point.
Theoretically any non-supporting member should be limited to 5pms and have no avatars or signatures.
I can see that this would potentially pose a problem. However I also think - and this is very much imho - that if we appoint a game admin etc they *should* be a Supporting Member. If we're endowing them with the status of being an admin and asking others to respect them then I feel they should be seen to be leading by example.

:withstupid: (even though it is Pen :narnar:)

No. In order to be admins they must be supporters. It makes no sense to say someone with a considerable post count i.e. a heavy user of our facilities doesn't need to help pay towards them. The fact that the posts made are in themselves a contribution is not lost on me - but that don't pay the bills.
All Section Heads must be supporters - we lead by example.
All Section Heads will ensure that their appointed admins are supporters - if not then please remind them via PM that unless they help support the community financially then they will lose the privileges that a game admin enjoys. We pride ourselves in being able to recognise those with the 'right stuff', that which makes them one of us. Anyone unwilling to pay the paltry sum we have set our subscription at needs to be looked at again.
Everyone is free to enjoy our considerable facilities at nil cost.
Ok, I'll set it so that only supporting members have more than 5 posts. I notice that admins have 2500 odd posts and so I'll not touch that. Penfold needs twice that as it is
Section Heads have 1000 and again I'll let that stay as all Section Heads are supporters
Game admins have 250 which I'll reduce to 5
Public admins have 200 which I'll reduce to 5
Registered users (and all other groups) have 50 which I'll reduce to 5
Supporting members have 50 posts and I'll up that to how many? 250?
Also I'll remove signatures and avatars from all but Supporters.
Finally are we changing the ability to upload attachments and or limiting the total space? I ask as I'm not sure how much space we have to go round and what is reasonable for supporters to have as well as registered members, if they get any at all.
Administrators have no limit and Section heads seem to have 10240000 which is a gig?? I'll not mess with those figures. Again all Administrators and Section Heads are supporters so it's not an issue.
I'm waiting till the scripts are in place till I subscribe myself . I'll be a guinea pig for getting the badge and the permissions automatically.

Yep. If we need to tweak later we can.

Leave it 'as is' for now. We can check with G that we're not breaking any HDD quota.

Excellent idea. Shout if you end up as an Alpha with no access. Although I can't see anyone being stupid enough to do that :flirty:
Don't worry about HDD space. Plenty of that going.
Don't forget Gallery permissions too!
TL.
Gallery I've not looked at, but it should be tied in with the forum permissions, just in it's own admin area.
Still having problems with the new script. It's mis-behaving so working on that at the moment.
Tonight I will start a trawl through every user group and check who has permissions to what. I'm loathed to rip out post counts and sig files etc until those who have Supporter permissions are up and running.
If the script is proving to be a problem I can probably manually add people to begin with? I appreciate members are getting keen to see the bits of the forum they are due.
It's fine and we're still on schedule. I know what the problem is now and can work around it. I'm just trying to get it smart enough that any additional updates are quick and easy.
If I don't get it working the way I want by 3pm then I'll use my fallback option.
