Dead Men Walking

I'm the little gold badge boy for the forum and have learnt the subtle art of delegation to my loyal hunchbacked underling. So I'm cool with the forum admin now :)

However I'm wondering about the strip down the left hand side of the forum i.e the web site. I assume that falls outside the scope of the forum and therefore is not my responsibility. However I have noticed that quite a lot of the information is not entirely up to date. For example the http://www.deadmen.co.uk/cmps_index.php?cc=community bit still refers to Alpha's, Charlie's etc who I mercilessly destroyed a few nights ago and makes no mention of the new format. I'm sure that the new content would be something that would need to be discussed and authorised by OB and TL but does anyone have responsibility for keeping the web site up to date? If no one looks after it officially I'd be happy to move my area of God-like powers two inches east and take it on.

Also Gandy was working on the gallery permissions, for which he has my thanks as I had no bloody idea there was a gallery admin panel at all. I don't imagine it will take a lot of ongoing maintenance but if it needs someone to keep tabs on it I'd be happy to pick that up.  This of course assumes I've not missed a trick and it's already happily  being done formally by someone else.

The main website has generally been a mix of people maintaining it after I initially got the structure in place.

However I think I am the only one who understands it fully and it would be nice if someone else knew how to do things incase I'm not around.

It is fairly simple, but there are key things that need doing to make sure you get the desired results.

It's one of those things that is quite indepth, I can easily explain the editing existing stuff over the phone/forum post, but the other stuff is a bit trickier and would benefit from a hands on training session.

Gallery is easy. It's just like the forum, gallery structure and permissions. That is it.

I'd be happy for you to take it on Smilo. As Gandy said, it hasn't had an owner as such so it would be great to have someone take charge of it.

That's cool I didn't want to step on anyone else's toes and I'm happy to be Gandalfs web Igor. I am fairly Ok with the structure just not about actually editing the pages themselves. Plus I'm happy to be introduced into these indept areas and the dark arts of the forum set up. Maybe we can have another tea and bisuits session.

Penfold if you want to join me on this journey of discovery I'd be happy to have someone esle to blame when I screw up...I mean happy to have you along mate :)

I know nothing about html which I think is at its core. As I said earlier it's about all I can do to stick a smiley on my posts.

I'd rather leave you to it and then you can delegate stuff to me as / when / if I can be of some use.

If you want to practice on something, there is a link in the left column at the bottom which takes you to the old avail website that no longer exists. You could make that disappear if you want to :)

Yup, you have.

Though you probably won't find what you're looking for without being told exactly where it is.

Styles & Templates | Style Manager. Click the <<>> button on the right. Double click adv_portal_navmenu, then copy the code from the template box into a text editor. Notepad is ok, textpad (or another programmers editor) better.

Do not use word or any other crappy word processor that will screw with the code.

Tweak what needs tweaking and then paste the result back in the box. You can edit in place if you know what you're doing, but you may find it easier in an external editor.

Once in the box, click save. The save and reload option is useful if you're not 100% certain what you've done is correct as it'll reload the template for you to continue editing.

Rather than blow it up completely would I be wrong to remove this bit
