Title: Scawen's response...
Post by: Doorman on February 20, 2009, 04:44:15 PM
...to a thread in LFS forum entitled 'How fast have you been on a public road?'

QuoteI will close the thread now for two reasons.

1) We keep getting reports about posts in this thread, so that is annoying for devs and moderators.

2) I don't think it is sensible to discuss the high speeds you drove on the public road, on a public forum.

Keep it between you, your friends, your car / bike, the police and the grim reaper.

Posting how fast you went is oldskool anyway, usually they upload a video of the speedo on Youtube and the Dibble get them that way.  Fools.

Eh, I find it a bit sad that people report posts in that thread. Yes, speeding is against the law, but what are you, the Police? Jesus... And don't get me started about the "it will make other people want to beat your speed" nonsense

Welp, my oldest son is 17 and has had his license for a while now.  He also gets to use an old Sunfire GT that I held onto for the boys.

Thing is, he has got the Amercan muscle testosterone thing going.  Wants to get a Mustang Cobra and soup it up even more.  Spends his spare time watching vids of guys who have modded their muscle cars.......doing strreet racing, what a car sounds like after one mod or another, etc.

When I was his age, I had wanted a beefed up Mustang myself ...... but my father would have none of that.  But he did get me a nice red 6 cyl hatchback 'stang.  By the time I was ready for a replacement I had grown up a bit and knew better where my priorities were ---- got a Dodge Dart

My son and his friends are most interested in the sound (RFL), top speed, raw horses etc....  bragging rights ya know.

So for me, Scawens position makes some good sense.  Lots of "kids" playing race sims.  Like with uploaded vids, kids will feed on the attitude set by the forum. That's the "Dad" in me.  But also - like obsolum - I'm not so sure censoring /closing threads is going to hyelp either.

And don't get me wrong, if my son wanted to mod a car for class specs and race days at the local tracks - I'd be all for it.  Have told him so.  Not interested ..... yet.
