Title: General Chit-Chat
Post by: XLR8 on March 03, 2009, 01:59:28 PM
I've started this thread for any general chat that doesn't fit under the topic of any existing thread for two reasons:

1) It means people don't need to start lots of new threads for smaller topics.
2) It keeps other threads 'on' topic, at the moment there seems to be a lot of OT chat in other threads.

I did this because I wanted to post a link to a video I've put on youtube but it didn't relate to any other thread and I didn't think it was worth starting a thread just for that video alone.

If the Admins/Moderators agree with the above then perhaps someone could 'sticky' this and we can all use it?
Alternatively if you disagree, feel free to delete this thread.

Anyway here's the link to the video which is just a few views of a huge slide round Pouhon at Spa whilst being chased by Deetz.

EDIT: embeded the link
[YOUTUBEHD][/YOUTUBEHD]

Hopefully I plan to do some more videos of excerpts from the one hour races (kilomegabots permitting) as I get the hang of Fraps and Sony Vegas etc. :)

By the way i was just checking out the GPC (F1600 comp.) site and I was clicking on some familiar names  and something caught my eye (d.o.b. to be exact)

When racing in the One Hour events i noticed that you where all so laid back and relaxed, that's not what I usually encounter in online gaming... so now i know why :D

ps. I'm 27 years old myself and race under the name of Katsushika Matsumoto in nK PRO:)

QuoteNo problem Didine. I was a bit p'i'ssed at the first tap, I felt that one was unfair. The second one wasn't so bad..as you said after the race, it was a "hard pass".
I'm so used to the ultra clean racing in netKar pro ( where any contact will wreck your car) that I wasn't too happy.
Lifted from the post race comments on R2P. You've put you're finger right on it I think.

Hehe, I'm just not used to tintop racing. Well out of practice.  You have to expect a bit of paintwork swapping, but what he did was a desperate (and unfair imo) attempt to grab the win at the last after I'd frustrated him for 6 laps.  It worked. :P

Still, you get used to the netKar "no contact at all" style of racing ,then stupidly expect all other races to be the same :D

Another vid

[YOUTUBEHQ][/YOUTUBEHQ]

A quick lap of Prato Short in a FF1600 (1-24-73) during practice, didn't nail T3 as well as other laps but it's still one of my better times :)
The lap is shown from inside then outside the car.

I meant to try and get this up before the races last Wednesday as I thought it might help act as a guide to the racing lines, but I didn't get time.

I'm using Sony Vegas to edit the videos but a lot of quality seems to be lost when uploaded to youtube, if anyone has any tips on the best Rendering options to use please let me know, thx.

A nice lap Mark. As Ron says its always nice to see how other people drive a lap. Thought my lines, and times are similar, yours is a different driving style to mine.

Keep up the good work. :thumb:

PS. Damn and blast, I'm going to be busy again this Wed, so I wont be able to make the race.....

I hope it goes well.

Thanks guys, I'll keep posting more vids if people find them helpful.
I think it's always nice to see how other people tackle a track and maybe find new lines or braking points, or even what not to do.

BTW W Smoker is now also using the alias Peter Price, he was online again tonight d!cking about.

Here's another vid from Prato Short of a high speed chase between me and Paolo Sala racing last night. You can see the different lines we take even though the lap times were almost identical. The two flying lap times were in the high 1-24s which is top ten stuff on nkrank, not bad considering we were racing for position. However I know where I can make up some tenths now after watching his lines in Sector 1 :)

[YOUTUBEHQ][/YOUTUBEHQ]

This looks like much better quality (if you hit the HQ button) after I googled the rendering options for Vegas and am using the WMV9 format now.

Thanks Ron, I did consider joining GPC but they race on a Friday night and I'm always going to be down the pub then :D
That's why I like our Wednesday meets.

Looking at the GPC supported tracks page - http://gpchampionship.com/gpcos/championship.php?type=tracks&menu=home
they appear to have loads of tracks for nk that I wasn't aware were out. Such as Donnington, Brands, Zandvoort and Dijon.
Is this right? If so how do we get hold of these tracks, anyone know what the score is here????

I take about the same racing line as sala, but what i noticed is that you (in you're previous video) brake way later then me. Could you make a video with the gas/brake/force feedback clipping graph on (i think you have to push F7 when racing) it looks like you're trail braking very well... something i haven't mastered obviously

ps. i really like your video's :yahoo: and i also had quite some problems with uploading good quality to youtube and haven't found a good solution for it :(
Title: General Chit-Chat
Post by: XLR8 on April 01, 2009, 06:16:13 PM
Thanks Katsu, I'll try and do something including the feedback graphs, but it won't be this week. With this good weather we're having I'm going to be out mountain biking as much as possible. Then it's my birthday at the weekend and I'll be very drunk, then very ill :dribble:

As for trail braking, I used to use it in GTR but not so much in nK. The engines in the FF's produce quite a bit of braking force as you change down, so I have the brake bias heavily towards the front so as not to lock the rear. It seems to work for me.

Re: the videos formats, I googled it and the advice I found was to use the WMV9 format. The last video above (3 laps) was done using that format so if you like it try that?

Interesting.  What do you call heavily towards the front?

In the F2000 last night i was using 55% Front(much further back than i used to..i always had 62-65 % front in the old days) combined with 70% brake multiplier.  I trail brake all the time.  It's a habit i cant get out of :)

I had a normal Fiat 500 for a couple of months (company car) and I absolutely friggin' loved it. It's an awesome little car. If I had the money and didn't have to worry about practicality (I'm a dad now, didn't you know!) I'd definitely consider buying one.

Title: Crema test track race possibility?
Post by: Jape on May 21, 2009, 07:39:47 AM
I was wondering, is it technicly possible to race at Crema? I know that there is 2 different way, so in race all would choose the faster one for sure, but is there any other "problem"? It seems they haven't race at Crema on GPC.

I have found Crema one of the best nkPro tracks. Texture quality and pits are unbelievable plus track layout is great. I like it particularly with FF1800.

EDIT: One problem might be the pits. There isn't than pitbox for two cars. What a pitty.

Quote from: Jape;276935Question about Crema online.rar . Is it enough if this file is installed to computer which works as server or does this file need to be installed by everyone who tries to join to Crema Race server?

Everyone needs it.

It took me a while to make, but I'm happy with the result.
I made a multiview movie showing a F1600 doing a couple of laps around Crema test track.

The movie has two picture in picture views, one focusing on the pedals, and one on the shifter. Tell me what you think :D

Great! :D How many video cameras do you have in the house? :lmfao:

Hmm, maybe I should start using LFB a bit in the corners that don't require h&t.. seems like a good idea, but I never did that before. I use LFB all the time in the F2000, but in all the others I only use RFB. I never use both techniques with the same car, but I can see why it makes sense!

I'd be up for some racing on this combo some day !

I'm running everything at max. with 4XAA, 8XAF @ 1600x1200 85hz (I think, not at my gaming rig right now) :)
Edit : Just remembered that for this movie it adjusted the resolution to 1280x720 to get a better aspect ratio for YouTube.

I have some more :lmfao:
Well I thought about using an extra cam to film the G25 steering wheel, but I think that would take up to much space in final movie, so I cancelled that idea.

Actually I never thought about the combination of LFB with heel & toe, It's just something I do automatically :norty: I'm a natural :roflmao:
In the sequential shifted cars I solely use LFB, I'm way faster that way. The only time my foot is touching the clutch is at the start :lmfao:

To bad you missed last weeks event at Radiator Springs Racing. It consisted of two races in the F1600 at Crema :)

Superb video, Katsu  The game does indeed look fantastic. I love the new engine and tyre sounds by the way. I'll definitely have to get the new beta once I get back into the driver's seat. And I'll have to make work of getting used to using headtracking as well. It looks so much better and more natural.

Last week was just way too busy for me unfortunately. Wish I could have been there.

I had a look at the Radiator Springs calendar now, but there doesn't seem to be any scheduled races the coming weeks..? What's up with that?

What do you think about the attendance and quality of racing in Radiator Springs so far?

Quality of racing has been pretty good, but the organization leaves something to be desired. First you have to connect to the chatwindow to hear on which server you have been allocated. That takes some time, especially when the decide to wait if any other guys join. Last time I connected to the chat at 20:50 and I was still there at 21:20 :sideways:

(they ask everybody to be there at 21:00)

To make things worse when you connect to the server you have to remain in the pits for another 5 or 6 minutes, which is really started to irritate me after waiting more then 20 minutes in the chat.

I think I'm gonna drop Andrea (sort of admin over there) an email tomorrow asking him if there's way of sorting these things out.

Oh and they run it in Fullmode so look out :lmfao:

According to graphic overload :D there's should be a race this Wednesday.

Thanks for the info!

Ron, you weren't joking when you warned me earlier that their website being messy.. When they have a calendar feature I expect them to announce the upcoming races there..! Their forums are a bit confusing too, with most of the stuff being in Italian.

That said, I can tolerate a good deal of hassle if the racing is good!

A1 Ring, Philip Island? Haven't been on nkPro forums for a while, but it seems that there has been nice progress by track builders. Hopefully I find some free time for nkPro & Finnglish Racing before xmas

Those are very old 0.99 namie tracks but there's a few to add. Laguna Seca, Adelaide, Donington and of course Aosta in 1.1
Hurry back Jape. :)
