Post by: Stryker on March 04, 2009, 12:34:53 PM
Anyone got tips for a good pounce other than the obvious, pick off a straggler?

Last night I got in the habbit of rushing in with a rush of my regular zombie brotheren.  I got one pounce on some happless would be victim and got an excellent view of me tearing strips out of him while surrounded by the zombie masses until......

Some gun nut redneck swong by on his way to the pig farm or something and cut us all down.

Yeah, tell me about it. :sideways: Damned rednecks!
Worse still is being a smoker, getting REALLY good tongue on a backmarker (oops, Freudian slip) and being whacked by someone who only has to aim down your tongue. Be great to be able to do at least a couple of sidesteps. :g:

The more height you can get (to start your jump from) the better. When you jump, jump as high as you can and then look down and steer onto your target - I believe that you can steer better if you let go of the crouch key after jumping but I'm so rubbish it doesn't make a lot of difference

When out in a open area map, it can be a good tac to use the hunter as a diversion, covering up a nice boomer trying to get close enough to a group..

Just pounce over the survivor group a few times, usually makes them a little nervous, and might give the boomer the chances of getting close enough for a good hug an burp, after that you can pick a target and go touch him :P

Agreed. Hunters and Smokers on their own are a bit annoying but aren't ever going to win the game for the zombies. But a hunter that pins down a survivor at the same time a smoker drags away the only survivor close enough to help is a winner. Add in a boomer who then pukes on the pinned players and you have mayhem. Suddenly you only have two mobile survivors, two pinned an taking heavy damage and a zombie rush. I sued to think zombie tactics were nice but not essential. just wearing down the Survivors till a tank spawned was enough. I now know I was a twot (Thanks Dr Sadako) and as much as the Survivors do zombies need to plan.

Which is why all-talk voice comms should be OFF on our servers! Don't let the survivors hear the zombies planning their attack. You know it makes sense

Wait till someone has been vomited on and use the hoard of zombies as cover. Either pouncing the person one side of the crowd to shield you from their team mates, or pounce the one covered in vomit. On the floor clawing away surrounded by zombies is fairly safe.

Its better to target the one (normaly will be only 1) that isnt vommed on. The other 3 dont get the red warning outline till they "age" a bit. Combines with someone w/o comms thats a big dmg :)

Agreed. If there's only one that isn't vomited on then they're the best choice as they'll have clear vision and not have to fight off zombie to walk around. I was saying this if just one person (especially if it's on of the middle people) gets barffed on.

If there's a rush on you can sometimes get away with running up behind a player and just slapping them down and moving onto the next one.

If they're red, its often a better idea to try this than pounce them and get stuck on top.

Ok, so I'm going to share hunter love.

The damage is the vector distance between your jump point and your hit point. So realistically height makes no difference. Use the height to be able jump further.

Letting go of crouch does make a huge difference in the 'in-air' steering. Also bouncing off other walls helps you get the additional distance.

Always try and pounce a single un-'vomed' survivor as his friends won't be able to see him.

I think the biggest thing is hitting as a group. Vom a crowd, 2 hunters and a tongue and you have 3/4 of the team down. Use a smoker to pull people backwards so they keep having to re-trace steps.

The flipside is always leave spawned infected behind. A boomer or smoker waddling around miles behind can do nothing so don't kill them. If the tongue comes in, just melee your colleague and carry on.
