Aha! I would.
In the past I have had software that while I thought I had 'turned it off' it still kept doing the firewall thing so uninstall might be a good option.
I'm also wondering if the router has a firewall and any ports need forwarding to your PC within your network?
TL.
I think the router does have a firewall Linksys WAG54GS VERSION1.
I have downloaded new drivers for it too.
On TS tonight all solutions suggestions gratefully accepted.
Update
Comodo gone, and i can connect to WOW matrix so this is a step forward :)
Stuck on the looking for realm page on WOW but there is a blizzard background downloader at 5% so maybe this is ok.
Steam connects fine now and i can see the server lists. so fingers crossed. :)
Can anyone suggest what to do about treading on the wifes laptop and smashing ? :(

First thought that comes to mind is RUN!!!!
If the screen is smashed it will probably be new laptop time; depending on the age and model, replacement screens are prohibitively expensive.

Do you have a pet that could have knocked it from somewhere high causing the damage after she thoughtlessly left it balanced on the arm of the sofa? Thus removing any blame from you and hopefully stop her bringing it up all the time.

Pet damage is a standard exclusion on most home insurance policies, so whatever you do don't say that.
You are insured against your own clumsiness though, so best just tell the truth.:)
NEW PC runs great.
Laptop totally dead so I think battery dead or connection broken, no sign of a footprint so who knows.
