Interesting. My main concern is how many orders and RMAs in total - in order to get some statistical reliability...?

Doh. Failed to spot that

Well, seems like the numbers are quite fair then... interesting aspect, with the heat not causing more RMAs.

I've never had a graphics card die on me. I've had a range of ATi and Nvidia cards. Most recently a 4870 and an 8800GTS (which I guess still count as modern as they're included in the survey) my brothers have had a 4870 and 2 more 8800s between them.
Assuming their failure rate is correct and the average failure rate is 3% our house had around a 14% chance of one of more failing. (or put another way, buying 22 graphics cards is like tossing a coin as to whether you're going to get a duff one - So I imagine we have a fair few people here who've had problems)

Any chance of a quick survey of people so we can see if this has any merit. I seems a bit high for me. My family and I have owned a lot of graphics cards over the years and I've only known one to fail and that was an ATi 9600 Pro from back in the day. Does this mean all of a sudden they're chucking out poor cards and why?

Well the death rates on GTX series doesnt really surprise me as its well known nVIDIA has had serioues issues with the yeild on that series.. 40% chips straight of the waffers were defective..
