I'm glad I got a free copy with my CPU. :sideways: I could be accused of not giving it a fair chance, but as soon as I schlepped across miles of terrain with a sidekick giving out the same old instructions 'rifleman. 200m. west' I knew I was taking a trip down memory lane. From the little I know of Arma2 it's a much better product. Also, there is no dedicated server which, in this day and age I would say is an absolute necessity.  A  from me.

Just out of curiosity I am acquiring the "trial version" to see what its like :norty: .  For me, however, I come at it with a biased opinion.  It really irks me when I read reviews and PR blurb stating; "Finally, The long awaited sequel to the acclaimed Operation Flashpoint has been released".

My intern showed it to me on his PC. At the beginning, you have to actually run more than 2 miles without any action around, which takes ages. Give me a break. Simulation or not, could they not have shorten this to 0.5 miles?

I've got this on order. I actually liked the style of play of the first game. Lots of nothing and then mayhem. Sort of a soldier sim. I also went anorak and bought all the expansions too. So I'm sort of addicted.

It's actually not that bad - you can commandeer a jeep to get you to the LZ much faster (unless you blew them all up :P), however if you choose to complete all the secondary objectives (which are very much scattered across the first island), well, kudos to you if you can hold onto a vehicle through all that.

Fortunately I've played through the next few missions and I haven't come across a similar situation, some bits are very hard though, so lots of dying and retrying!

On the whole I rather like the game, though it has its flaws.  Is anyone up for a bit of co-op at some point?

I'm ignoring the secondary missions and just going with the main objectives. So far I'm loving it. However that might be down to me finally having a PC that can render all the graphics with no problem :)

Note to self. Don't judge a game from the first two missions.

Dreadfull squad AI, a totally rubbish and cack handed squad order systems, broken vehicles, loads of pointless running about with zero sense of tension (plenty in the first game) and a rubbish user manual.

uninstalled and going for a prize at the LAN to amy masochist willing to endure the pain

THat game is a lame console port, BUT with friends the multiplayer is pretty fun :) And there should  be coming a big DLC that fixes the most problems with multiplayer.

Well I played through it a bit more and I must agree that the AI is rubbish, your squad are useless except for drawing fire away from you, and the save system is appallingly bad which frequently leads to 15-20 minute sections being repeated over and over.

Overall I'm still quite enjoying it though.

Bought it and played sp and coop and thought it was an also ran - seen it before - brings nothing new to the genre - its not bad but its not that good either...

I might give it a bit more time but I'm not hopeful.

Maybe, but I'm more keen on giving ArmA2 a whirl at the moment, which IMO is the better game.

If there are enough takers I could be persuaded though.
