Title: Gran Torino
Post by: delanvital on April 07, 2009, 11:31:47 PM
I have just arrived home from the cinema, watching Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino". I have to say, that is one of his best in a very long time. I am a fan of his so I had rather high expectations and glad to say they were fulfilled. Noticing afterwards that it has sneaked into a nice position (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1205489/) on top 250 on imdb, despite not being hyped as much as, say Million Dollar Baby, I can only agree.

Without giving away too much, I was entertained for the two full hours. The dialogue and the human portraits (despite being slightly stereotypical) is just awesome. The story can sometimes be stretched a little too far in his films, so second act can often be a wee bit of a drag, but this one keeps you there for the full two hours. I have smiled, snickered and laughed quite a bit and so did most of the cinema.

Go see it! :)

Btw - the trailer (http://7trailers.com/gran-torino) does not portrait the film well, it presents it way to dark.

I thought this film was great and really enjoyed watching it, I will buy the DVD and have it in my collection.
I thought the ending was great and heart wrenching, I was worried it would spiral into some big shoot out but the way it played out was fab :)
I must say that the ending was extremely predictable but still good.

Not reading the spoilers as I may watch this, it seems to be getting good reviews most places. The trailer didn't seem anything special, in fact his voice tends to grate on me a bit but i'm sure the real thing is impressive.

The trailer is truly shite. It does not portrait any of the key points in the film.

Don't remind me. I saw Gran Torino on a special screening with some buddies of mine and we all thought the same thing. It will be a very sad day when it comes.

It is as if the older he gets the better the films, generally speaking. I hope he keeps going for as long as he can. Gf and I also caught this at a pre-screening and it was *stuffed* with Eastwood fans exchanging details on the movie.
