Could we keep the images in the signature to a minimum please. We have many on modem and ISDN that get hevy download times just because of the images. I think TL have discussed this some time ago.
If you absolutely need to have an image there make sure it is small in size and in file size.
Cheers,
Good point.
The last board I frequented was alive with large piccy signatures.
But...............
There was also an option on the board that enabled images in the signature.
Images had to be uploaded to the forum site and then enabled by an admin.
Is there one on this forum..............option to enable/disable image in sigs.
Does Oldie have a stash of secret buttons hidden away in the drawer.
I dunno
But there is no need for em...........is there .
OH MY GOD I,M GETTIN BORED AGAIN ;)
.........I feel a sig comming on.
SLoWHaND
removed mine now. :(
If you go into "my controls" you have the option of turning off user's signatures in posts under "board settings"
After a long time of not having signatures enabled, I re-enabled them a couple of months ago so that I could see some of the artwork on peoples sigs.
Most are nice and small but we still have people using images in their signatures that take up more space than the majority of their posts.
I'd rather not disable them again as some sigs are quite funny and informative so please be considerate in the size of the image you use.
I think I've mentioned the following picture earlier (might have been in the SOG section though), but it doesn't hurt to repeat it:

If you'd want some "official" guideline on signatures, this one could perhaps be stickied somewhere :)
I'd have to say that looks pretty good, especially if there is a 50kb limit.
Could that be enforced in any way?
Just reduced mine :(.

Yes, but only if they are uploaded. If they're linked in off site then there isn't a way of controlling it automatically other than turning off the IMG tag in the signature options.

Much better, thanks :)
We had a discussion about signatures last Summer.
http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=12891&highlight=signatures
The gist was :
Quote from: TeaLeaf;117743Forum signatures have started creeping up in size again folks. I just read one thread where the same person posted two one line posts, one after the other in the same thread. After deduction of my browser frame and the task bar his two posts completely filled by 18" monitor screen.
.......edit....
Please remember that the general forum settings used to allow a signature of 96 x 96 . The first of the above signatures used some EIGHT times this amount and the second one used up a staggering THIRTY-NINE times as much space :(
I know 96x96 is small, so I'm not asking people to restrict to that size, but just to remember that the signature should be a *minor* part of your post, not the majority of the content and all of the quality ;)
If you want to show off your artwork please link to it in the appropriate section. Signatures are great, but they are signatures not the post themselves. So PLEASE let's try to keep the signature size down please, this is after all a forum not a gallery.
Thank you.
TL.
This then got upgraded to:
Quote from: Maus;117954The NS forums have a sensible sig rule: 400x75 pixels max, and a file size no greater than 22kb. Not bad guidelines.

PEN
Changed mine a bit...
minimal height on the signature would be nice (images, quotes, whatever included) simply for readability. Using ""'s instead of [ quote ] tags would help in the sig!
I reckon you could happily allow images wider than 400, but 75 is a decent height?

I agree with you, it's scrolling through post that's the issue for me, so It's only really the height that bothers me.
how's this one? 400x75 as suggested above :)
damnit I need to do some work :(

Not sure about the content but it's way too high... 75 pixels was the recommendation.

I might adjust the hight if the content is allowed
Quote from: Nefertem;177550If you start using that sig DuVeL, I will recommend you spam the forum a bit more.. especially during work hours..
Work, that's a reason why I want to know if the content is allowed. Otherwise I'm sticking to this 1.

Well, I don't think it is allowed. It is clearly sexist and considering we have very young members I think we should limit these types of images or keep them in the "Laugh ..." section. Both for their sake and their parents sake. Also we do have some female members and showing them some respect is something to consider as well. /Admin hat off/
Is that an iProd? :norty:
heh, that very image just showed up in the news...

the register story contains no images but it does link to the sports illustrated website and to that picture with the relevant NSFW label ;)
Okay, I rescaled my sig but the text is getting blury.
Anyone here who can do something about it?
Make a nice text out of it?

emailed you a quick mock up using those images. Nothing fancy. If you have photoshop it's quite good for making fancy text and clever background/foreground fades and stuff. The GIMP is a decent open source editor. Lots of features, different to use.

I'm sure if you post them in the spray shop with the source images you'll get a few more done! :flirty:
Will do that, cheers m8!
