Hi folks! Long time no see - at least in this forum... Yesterday I did it: WoW WotLK is now installed (only on my laptop for now, will get it on the desktop after the weekend) and I have payed for three months of play time :D
I have started looking through my account on Curse and the addons I had marked as favourite. What I then wonders about is the Curse Client (http://wow.curse.com/client/):
- Is anybody using it?
- Does it work well, or are there any problems?
- What about security (I assume Curse is a pretty safe site, but one can never be too sure)?
The must-haves which I am 100% sure I'm gonna install is WIM (WoW Instant Messenger), Outfitter and ArkInventory, as well as Titan Panel. I'll also probably install Cartographer. I've looked a bit at QuestHelper as well, but I'm not sure if that will ruin the joy of doing the quests "the proper way" more than make things easier (kind of important, as the quest part, together with leveling is what I'm interested in for now). Anybody got any comments on any of these, or have some other must-have recommendations?
Regards Bob - who is excited to be back in the game :)
Long and the short of it is that CurseClient is one of only two working atm and the one with most addons on it. So yes it is probably the one to use. There's a thread on it in the DMR member section about it and the summary is 'no other choice but to use it'.

we are having a bit of a ding dong in the members area at the moment m8
a lot of ppl do not trust curse (including me) im looking in to other options.
have a look at //www.wowinterface.com if your looking at packs of mods.
just give someone a yell nad well get you invited to "deadmen raiding"
For the record
I use curse its good as gold and updates everything it can find. Although you still manually gotta do the stuff it misses :(

Manually d/l them? In the time he wrote that post he could've downloaded and installed all the mods he mentioned ^^
When WowMatrix broke I switched to the Curse Client and i've not had any issues with it. I did disable the Curse addon it autoinstalls to track your addon usage and stuff though.
im seriously considering slimming down my UI package of mods and going to something somewhat simpler and easier to maintain so its not so much of a pain (last check over 140 addons)
My distrust with Curse is the mulitple times it has failed to properly screen out trojans etc and it's wish to be in my startup menu. Other than that it is a fine piece of inadequately coded software the likes of which I last saw in my brick outhouse.

Yeah, I removed it from startup on my system. Unfortunately a lot of the mods I use seem to only be available from Curse, and I don't see why the client would be any worse at screening trojans than just the website as a whole. If i'm gonna use the site, I might as well use the client. it's not like I have it set to auto-update.
Cheers gents, thanks for the answers :)
For now, as I'm only going for a rather limited amount of addons, I think I'll just download and install them the manual way. But if I know myself right, more will come as time goes by, and it'll soon be a hassle checking and keeping everything up to date.
But also: what about which addons to use? As I said, WIM, Outfitter and ArkInventory are all must-haves for me, while Titan Panel and Cartographer are nice-to-haves, and perhaps as well QuestHelper. But what about any new addons - is there something brilliant new ones which has come during the last year and a half where I've been unactive? And what about (UI) compilations? I used to stick to Photek, but after a quick look in wowinterface it doesn't by far seem like the most popular one...
photek is dead m8
look on WoW interface in the compalations/ suites -> graphical compilations
My list is comprised of
Atlas
Xperl
Outfitter (soon to be dead when they introduce a working version of that home made kitswapper)
ArkInventory
BigWigs
GoGoMount
PallyPower
TitanPanel
Gatherer
Recount
I think that's all of my addons.
never had any trouble with curse myself, but i do download manualy ( always have and tbh not worth the risk to do it otherwise)
i do have a limited amount of addons tho.
but i find itemrack is a good addon you could replace outfitter with
