Remember the halcyon days of thrashing a Lotus Cortina or an Alfa Romeo GTA? Well they're back! If you own rFactor and still have a copy of GTL lying about THIS is a real treat. (http://www.vr-files.de/%7Erfactor/mods/HistoricGTTCv1.zip)
HistorX have made a mod for rFactor with superb physics, beautiful tracks and providing you use RealFeel (included in the mod) and 900 degrees on your wheel it's a blast! Be warned, it's over a gig download but worth it. :D No Starforce either!
I have a server set up on my spare pc running the mod with Brands Hatch Indy, Castle Coombe, Oulton Park, Mid Ohio (nice) Snetterton, Eastern Creek (rFactor's first laser scanned track) and Silverstone National.
All these tracks and loads more can be obtained from rFactor Central (http://www.rfactorcentral.com/list.cfm?cat=Tracks&type=Permanent%20Circuits)
And no, I haven't gone off nKP! :narnar: But this lot should be on every simmer's hard drive. :thumbsup2:
Woo that would be awesome. Finding a server on rFactor is akin to banging your head into a brick wall, so it would be nice to have somewhere to race.
Worth looking at Bathurst too, that track is awesome with the Mustangs ;)
Yeah! I've been an avid rFactor hater for years, though I've tried to find something about it to like many, many times.
I have to say, the HistoriX mod is bloody fantastic. I'm well and truly sold on it. It would be great to see a few people racing this.
Maybe make the server public one day and just have it set up for cruising round the 'ring. I bet that would get a good few people in :)
Hi Ron! Haven't been around here for a while. It's really nice you discovered HistoriX, really awesome mod. Is your server passworded (too lazy to go check that) whats the pass?
Will you maybe run some all-join league with it?
The password is the same as usual. Now go and look for it you idle git! :)
You'll be welcome. :D
Well that was a great nights racing..even though there was only three of us :) I'm in love with the Escorts, what a blast!
More tomorrow please :D
Brilliant fun, a total blast :D
Escort fun tonight. Brilliant, and (mostly) kept on track.
:thumb::yes2:
You were racing tonight :crying:
Where have i been.. is server still up?
May i suggest some tracks...
It's crazy it's fun it's... Australian :)
Mount Panorama - Bathurst, originally comes for rF with V8 Supercars mod, but in case you are not interested (and you probably aren't, trust me) here it is...
Some screenshots & info (http://rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Bathurst%20ORSM)
rapidshare Download link (http://rapidshare.com/files/225745958/Bathurst.rar.html) Can be downloaded 10 times now, since i'm free user...
Another one... Old french temporary country-side street circuit, also from Virtua_LM, one of the best modgroup (Mid Ohio and old LeMans) - Rouen-Les-Essarts.
Great, really fast, thrilling track to drive, two layouts, one used from 55 - 70 ithink, and other one form 74 - to something... Both great and fun.
some screenshots & info (http://rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Rouen%2DLes%2DEssarts)

some other download link (http://www.mbdevteam.com/download/vlm_rouen_les_essarts_v101.exe)
Here are some other cars.... worth mentioning. Also made by physics guru Niels Heusinkveld
Ferrari 312B (http://rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Ferrari%20312B%20F1%2D1970) from the 1970 F1 season.....
...and his Corvette C6 (http://rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Chevrolet%20Corvette%20C6) street car.
Both fantastic & worth trying, especially Ferrari.
He also has put up an interesting site, for those who want to know more about this rFactor, SimBin = crap phyiscs. http://geocities.com/n_heusink/rfactorphysics/index.htm
Whoa! Take it easy. Early days yet, we'll get round to them...eventually. :D
EDIT: Rouen looks very interesting though.
As for the Pantera and other manic cars such as the GT40 they'll be a long time coming
That was just a suggestion to try, no need to put them on server :)
Theres plenty of cars in Histoirx :)
My favorite is the DeTomaso Pantera :taz:
I've got all those tracks already :) The VLM tracks were first on my list, really top quality work.
I'll happily spend time just discovering the joys of the HistoriX mod for the time being. There's enough there to keep me happy for the next year. I could probably just drive the Escorts and Capris for the next 12 months and still not get bored :)
Hm.... this sounds tempting. Moose, can your PC run it? I've never tried rFactor. Where's the best place to buy it? Do you need to purchase a copy of GTL too in order to make the HistorX mod work?
What's been keeping me away from rFactor is all the complaining that it's too hard to find a race online, with all the different versions / tracks / mods. If more dMr people start racing I might reconsider!
I have also downloaded and reactivated my rFactor. Installed the Historic too.
I need links to the tracks because there is so many versions of each track.
Heres a few that we are concentrating on to begin with.
Castle Combe
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Castle%20Combe%202005
Brands
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Brands%20Hatch%202005
Eastern Creek
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Eastern%20Creek%20Laser
(Ron, i think i have the answer to the problem we had with it..will try it later)
Mid Ohio
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Mid-Ohio%20Sports%20Car%20Course
Oulton Park
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Oulton%20Park%202005
(install the bump fix as well)
Snetterton
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Snetterton
(download both the 1.0 and 1.5 installs)
There's a couple more i think, but those should be a start.
Were just getting used to rFactor and its many pain in the arse moments trying to get everything compatible, but we can guarantee racing at Mid Ohio,Brands and Castle Combe :)
Check out Lovrettas post for some other worthwile track downloads.
I've installed some nice new textures for some of my tracks. I'll make sure it all still works online first before posting the links.
Quote from: Gnomie;273877Moose, can your PC run it?
Yup, you can configure it to run with DX7,8 or 9 shaders so it should run on most machines, and there's plenty of graphics options. I run it in DX8 mode with most options turned right up and 4XAA 16xAF and get good (60+) FPS in most situations. A lot depends on the tracks tbh. Mid Ohio is beautiful looking and is one of the best performance wise as well . Eastern Creek with the new high res textures runs at over 100 FPS in places, even on my crappy rig with a decent grid of cars. I'm sure you will get it to run pretty well on your machine.

I'm going to just show on what system i have been running it, one year after it was released:
Celeron 1.4 - old FCPGA 370 socket
256 MB SDRAM (133 MHz)
Radeon 9200
It was going smooth, when conifugred properly!
One of the things that affect perfomance alot in rF are the shadows, and day/night transitions - night racing being big perfomance killer.
If anyone needs help, just ask, i'm long time rF user, i know alot of it...
Will you be racing today?
Edit.
Some more links...
Lime Rock Park, fanastic little circuit
download links (http://rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Lime%20Rock%20Park)
Here you can find texture update for it, made by well know rF artist who hides behind nickname "SLN". A must have texture update!
Direct DL link (http://sln.rscsites.org/scripts/download.php?Location=tracks&File=LimeRock_SLN.zip)
Check his small site, he also updated a bunch of other tracks

Stu, what problems did you and Ron have with Eastern Creek?
Quote from: lovretta;273886Stu, what problems did you and Ron have with Eastern Creek?
Couldn't join it online due to a terrain.tdf mismatch iirc, which I've found the solution to. ....if that was the error :sideways: I'm pretty sure it was.
Having raced at Lime Rock all through the night in iRacing on Saturday, the rFactor version just doesn't do it for me .
The same goes for all the tracks that are in iRacing as well tbh. Once you've gone laser scanned, there's no going back :sideways:
I'm really enjoying tracks in rFactor that i don't race in any other sim.
Ohh, do you know if updated textures will cause mismatches online? I wouldn't have thought so, but nothing would surprise me with this sim:narnar:
Oh dear, what have we started? :dribble: I'll start the server this afternoon after the Grand Prix. I've left out the silly scary cars (sorry Love)
Quote from: The Moose;273887Ohh, do you know if updated textures will cause mismatches online? I wouldn't have thought so, but nothing would surprise me with this sim:narnar:
Nope :)
As for .tdf mismatch it could be that original file located in "root" locations folder is overwritten.
Ron, what track (version ) is it gonna be on server?
Quote from: lovretta;273890As for .tdf mismatch it could be that original file located in "root" locations folder is overwritten.
Yup, id figured that one out and downloaded the original again.
Ron, any chance you could set it up with Eastern Creek so i can test to see if that was the problem, and if it's now solved pls. :) (after the GP of course)
If that solves it i'll send you file and you could stick it on your server so everyone can download it.
Texture updates for lots of tracks can be found here

Okey dokey, done. :)
When will the server be up?
Asking because if it is, me not see it :crying:

So far:
Brand Hatch 2005 v1.0
Castle Coombe2005 v1
Eastern Creek Laser
Laguna Seca V12
Misano 2002 v2 Final
Oulton Park v1a
Snetterton v1.5
Mid Ohio (VLM_MidOhio_v110_rFactor.exe)
At the moment they're all 7 lap races. We'll play about with it as we go along. At the moment I'm very compliant except in the case of GT40s Panteras and the like.:flirty:

Stuart had trouble not seeing it in the lobby but Deetz and I could. :g: Odd
I.P is 82.34.44.197. Try that.
I wont anymore. :D
I guess Oulton Park you use is this one (http://rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Oulton%20Park%202005)?
I'm on the server, couldn't see it in the lobby, manually added IP. I'll be idle for the next 20 - 30 mins, driving my gf onto some presentation... Cyu soon on track!
Yep, that's the one.
Huh i got kicked from server because of some Alfa Romeo error?
Those Alfa's do nothing except causing troubles, even in virtual form :lmfao:
Current session closed all the time...
I keep getting kicked with a "track or RFM mismatch" getting annoying now.
Practice is so short by the time i try something the session is closed
Huh... That Escort is A BLAST! But it made me all sweaty and stinky... In the last race at Castle Combe i could barely see, as the sweat was getting all over my eyes... But at first i hated it, now i LOVE the bloody thing :woot2:
Hours of fun tonight, some really close racing. Loved it. :D

As you know it is much easier to race close with people you have raced hundreds of times before.
Just remember what happened when I was racing Moose at Laguna. (Or he was racing me....) :) Safety car!
But this mod felt good and was nice to look at. I will join you a few nights a week if we get a few regulars on this.

I'm tempted to buy Rfactor for this alone, but I'm a bit put off by all the things I've read about it. The hassle of setting it up correctly, the fiddling around with the RealFeel plugin, the issues posted about in this thread, etc etc. And of course the countless mods, although that wouldn't be a problem in this case.
Also, is it possible to just download the rFactor content, or do I need the physical disc? I don't know if I can find it in stores here, and I don't want to have to wait for it to be shipped here from the UK. Besides, I don't have CD drive anymore :) Also, I assume that I'll only need the basic rFactor content - plus the HistorX mod, of course - and I seem to remember reading somewhere on the LFS forum that that's only a couple hundred megabytes.

The RealFeel plugin is in the Mod install file so that takes care of the settings and stuff. I started this weekend with a new install. It worked fine. No need to fiddle with ini files. (But there is a 30 page manual with the mod. Read that)
But as you say its a couple of big downloads.
rF was around one gig, and the mod itself was about the same. Then add a few tracks at 30-100megs a piece.
Yes, at first it was ONLY available as online buy - go here (http://rfactor.net/index.php?page=buyonline)
And setting those things we have pointed out is one time set it and forget it. Real Feel setting is really simple once you learn 2 hotkeys combination ;) - since historix has realistic suspension, not some fudge-work like most rf mods, only setting in real feel you need to alter is FF-strenght, something you setup in game while driving, just like in lfs.
Also here you can download (http://www.rfactorcentral.com/rFactor_Lite.cfm) "light" version of rFactor, all (crappy) default content thrown out, which in the end turns out something like 100 MB.
HistoriX mod is a "bit" bigger, around 1 GB.
And for getting no mismathces with tracks when going online, either Ron will upload them :) or he will (or anyone of us suggesting a track) will put the exact link here so we make sure everyone has the same version.

The only bad thing I have found about it is the amount of smoke coming from the tires. Can that be reduced?
I guess so, first thing that comes up to my mind is that you would need to fiddle with smoke texture, but maybe there is some setting somewhere... Gonna check it...
Haven't found anything, at least not in .plr file.
Also if someone is driving with VISIBLE steering wheel in-game AND you are using 900 degrees, actually you may be using as much as you want. To make the in-game wheel rotate the same amount as the wheel in front of you, go to UserData\"your username in rf"\ folder, open the Controller.ini find this line
Steering Wheel Range="xxx"
Change xxx for whatever the steering wheel rotation you are using.
Quote from: lovretta;274009Yes, at first it was ONLY available as online buy - go here (http://rfactor.net/index.php?page=buyonline)
Excellent. I'll check that out later today and buy myself a birthday present :)

Ah yes, that's the one I meant.
Thanks for the info and maybe I'll see you tonight! :)
Just to be sure, before I go and pay for rFactor: I don't need any disc to be inserted while playing, do I? I have GTL and I can temporarily hook up my CD ROM drive if I need stuff from it to be copied to the rF folder, but I do not have my CD ROM drive available while playing games. So it must run from the harddrive alone, otherwise I'll pass on this for now.
EDIT: Apparently, if I buy it from the official site it'll cost me € 35 (~ £31). I'm not spending that kind of money on this. I'll go and see if I can find it in stores here. If not, then that's too bad. I suppose I could download the trial version to try it out at least, assuming the HistorX mod works with that one.
You only need the GTL disc in the drive while HistoriX is being installed. You then take it out and put it back on the shelf. This is a way the modders have of acknowledging GTL.
I can't help with where to buy rF other than the link I gave. Soz

It won't work with trial...
All right, bit the bullet and ordered a copy of GTL solely for being able to use the HistorX mod! It better be as good as you say! It cost me a whopping £2.95 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GT-LEGENDS-PC-BRAND-NEW-GAME_W0QQitemZ180350780240QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS?hash=item180350780240&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1687%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1308)!!
Looking forward to this.

You do know you need rFactor don't you? And don't actually install GTL. It comes with the infamous Starforce thingy.
By the way, you were robbed!
Well I guess I'm out of this. Stores here don't have rFactor - was to be expected - and if I buy it from Play.com I'll have to wait until I get it in the mail, which will probably be about a week. Only to have another disc lying about that I don't really need. Why they still charge € 35 for the download on the official site while you can get the DVD for £10 I don't know.

You can't wait a week? Jebus! Talk about instant gratification. :flirty: I
can see that having a cd cluttering up the place wouldn't give you much room to move about though.
That's right, I can't wait a week :) I'm the type of guy who, if he decides he wants something, has to have it right away :D
Well, that and the fact that I have a lot of free time today and tomorrow, but after that I'll have enough difficulty getting any racing in. I'm commited to the thursday races on LFS and the TBO series on R2P, but other than that I don't think I'll have a lot of time left. So this was one of those "alright, I'll buy it and try it right away now that I've got time" things, as it didn't seem to cost much.
Alright, I managed to get rFactor after all and installed the mod and everything. I went to try it out in single player, but I can't figure out the upgrades system. It seems I must buy/install upgrades in order to get 900° steering and Heel&Toe shifting and stuff? Well how do I do that? It seems I'm not able to click on "buy upgrade" or "install upgrade" or anything!
Man, if you're used to LFS' über simple GUI then this takes some getting used to. Haven't found the multiplayer button yet either :g:
Multiplayer Button is "Join".
Upgrades - you cannot buy one until you "buy" your car.
For the upgrades you only need "user adjustable steering", but to be able to buy them, you nned to FIRST BUY the car.
Quote from: obsolum;274075Well how do I do that? It seems I'm not able to click on "buy upgrade" or "install upgrade" or anything!
Just go to a test session and in the chat box type ISI_BABYFACTORY (capitals) then go back to the main screen and everything should be unlocked.
Fantastic and even better then yesterday close racing has happened again!
All we can whish now is more of this :)
I'm not sure will i be able to join you tommorow night, and then i'm sure i won't be driving till monday night :( i won't be home...
Have fun guys!
Hmm, I'm a bit confused. My wheel is set to use the whole 900° of rotation, and indeed I can use the full range in the game. The problem is that the in-game steering wheel's movement doesn't correspond with the real wheel's movement :g: If I turn my real wheel 450° to the right, the in-game wheel only turns 40° or so. I find this very distracting. I've turned the in-game wheel off for now, but I've always had it on in every game I've played, so I'm kinda used to it now. Is there a setting I must change, or do the steering wheels in the game simply not turn more than 40°? I can't remember if it was like that in GTL.

Aha, terrific! Thanks a bunch. Sorry if I'm being an annoying noob here but... I am, when it comes to rFactor :)
What rotation settings are you guys using, by the way? 900° seems to be too much, and I doubt that the real cars had such a range. I changed it to 540° and that does feel a lot better.

Just in case - Ferrari 365 GTB aka Daytona had 3,5 turns lock-to-lock ;)
I also was uncovinced that steering ratios were so high..
Just as an example - http://www.nzmustang.com/Clubs/Taranaki/GT350/shelbyGT350.htm
Guy says he has after market steering system called "19:1 Quick Ratio Steering modification"
And no, you are not annoying noob, you are just new to this :)
I'm glad i can help make it easier for you!
Also, you may buy upgrade which says "user adjustable steering", it will enable you to set whatever the steering lock you want.
I'm using 900 degress in logitech profiler and 24 - 28 degress in garage setup, feels very good to me.
Another brilliant night's racing. :thumb:
Watching you for a couple of laps Lovretta, I'm surprised you dont have more engine failures. If there was a tell tale on the tacho, it would probably show 15K from some of those downshift's... mind you mine would prob be 8 - 10k. :narnar:
Catch you all again soon, :D

My steering is not adjustable. Does anyone know why?
No wonder I'm slow
You have to unlock the 'user adjustable stering ratio' in the upgrade tab for every car you drive.

Quote from: lovretta;274126Just in case - Ferrari 365 GTB aka Daytona had 3,5 turns lock-to-lock ;)
I also was uncovinced that steering ratios were so high..
Wow, 3,5 turns  That's 1260°! Maybe that's because they didn't have power steering in those cars :g:
Quote from: lovretta;274126Also, you may buy upgrade which says "user adjustable steering", it will enable you to set whatever the steering lock you want.

didn't have power steering.
Just for the information, my 11 years old Renault 19 has 4 turns lock-to-lock.
Thats 1440 degress :yahoo:
Also no power assisted steering.

Yesterday i've set at least two engines on fire. One on half of the raceat laguna seca, other one, short time after checkerd flag (P1) at some other track, i was going for one more lap, and then... fire through the bonnet - if that happened some 30 seconds earlier

You need to get up to speed then. Instead of disconnecting, use the time to practice.
Katsu, you asked about the clutch and being able to change gear without it. This is what I've been able to find out.
QuoteIn GTR, if you want to use the H-pattern shifter, don't forget to go to advanced in the controls menu and make sure the 'hold button for gear' is checked.
in rFactor go to the controller.ini in Userdata\Katsu and look for this line
Gear Select Button Hold="1" // Enable this option if using a gear select device that holds down a joystick button while in a gear and releases all buttons in neutral (such as the Act-Labs USB Shifter)This is pretty much right as well I reckon.
QuoteTo the best of my knowledge, all of the ISI based sims (GTR, rFactor, GTL...) allow shifting with out using the clutch. Live for Speed requires use of the clutch pedal if you are using a direct select h pattern though. It is a toss up though, because most race cars have straight cut (dog ring) gears that can be shifted with out usingthe clutch, but it requires lifting and revving the throttle appropriately to allow for the shift to happen. Even most road cars have a sweet spot in the RPM range that allows for shifting with out the clutch, although that isn't recommended! Alot of the less advanced cars like those in the Speed World Challenge series, TC and GT, use stock gearboxes when a sequential isn't fitted and require the use of a clutch. I personally like the fact that rFactor doesn't require use of a clutch. Just turn off auto blip and auto lift and you will have to do your own RPM matching just like a real car, although it is not nearly as sensitive. But turn them off and try dropping from 4th to 2nd gear with out blipping the throttle and I bet the rears lock up on you! You will also peg the limiter if you upshift with out lifting.

Also, I just checked and it turns out I was driving a version of the Abarth that has less power and weighs more than the one you and Stu were driving :sideways: Stu said "we're driving the Abarth" so... I buy an Abarth. Little do I know that there are different versions, I'm a noob! This also explains why I couldn't load the setups Stu sent me and why I was driving around with an only very minimally tweaked default setup.

I never used this, i only do map gears in controller config screen, and everyhing works.
Except that you still can shift without clutch, which is rF problem.

Also note that if you're not using auto clutch and put it in gear without pressing the pedal you'll stall.

I never said i don't use the clutch :p
clutch + heel'n'toe is a huge joy, whatever the car, and when these oldies are driven with their old tractor-gearboxes it would be a sin shift them without clutch and rpm match.
I was refering to 'hold button for gear' option that i never used it, but overlooked fact that others may be using some other shifter then g25 one.

Yeah, I noticed that the LFS server was pretty packed the other day. I gotta say, though, now that I tried this rFactor Historx mod I realize how much I need something new in LFS to keep me interested. LFS is still my primary sim, hands down, but it's nice to drive something else for a change, something with better engine sounds, engine, water, oil and brake heat, engine failures etc... These are all things that should be on top of the LFS devs' to-do list.
See you guys tonight for the 1hr race! :D
Yeah Obs, that's exactly why I played Netkar for a while. I'm quite interested in this new Rfactor and GTL mod, I love my tin tops and I love being able to drive on some of the tracks I know from my favourite race series (BTCC/V8s). Getting my hands on the two titles might take some doing though.

Now that IS interesting. I've been wondering how I could categorise the choice of cars. Good find! :)
I wonder what the effect of sorting out class folders with those cars in would be. If it worked, when we get the question 'which car are you using?' we could answer 'anything from TC whatever'
Off to have a fiddle. :D
What do you mean by class folders?
I would first try if there is an "easy, no fiddle" method of doing it. If such thing exists in rfactor :haha:
I don't remeber now how it looks, but is it possible to add individual cars to dedicated server? You know, that "second" screen you see after you fire up dedicated server. First is small popup, on which you select "player" file and "racing series". After that you are choosing something from the left list...
Modifiying all cars files and rfm file (rfm is the one in which all the cars and classes are listed), modifiying those would be sort of over-fiddle :frusty:
Forget that! It's a minefield! Maybe we can post a list of cars to be used, once a week. I do like the way they've sorted them out though. Thoughts chaps?
Quote from: Doorman;274881I do like the way they've sorted them out though. Thoughts chaps?
Me too Ron. TC1 or whatever should be enough. People need to have the lists, thats all.
The admins only decide the class. TC1, TC2 or GTC (slow or fast) .
Most people should be able to find a car they like in every class.
I've sorted their lists, first priority being laptime (on Mid-Ohio Chicane), second was topspeed.
Also renamed GTC-Fast and GTC-Slow class to GTC-1 and GTC-2.
Most cars from TC-1 and TC-2 can be found under FIA-TC-65 and FIA-GTC-65 classes. Beware in case of Abarth, it is the one found under one-make cup - Abarth Coppa Mille. It's perfomance is much greater then that of the Abarth TC-1000 found in FIA historic classes.
Class TC-1
- Jaguar E-Type Coupe 1:43.0 (138 mph)
- Lotus Elan 26R 1:43.0 (129 mph)
- Austin Healey 3000 1:43.5 (132 mph)
- Porsche 911 S 1:43.7 (132 mph)
- '65 Corvette Stingray1:43.9 (145 mph)
- Ferrari 275 GTB 1:44.0 (140 mph)
- Ford Mustang1:44.0 (135 mph)
Class TC-2
- Renault Alpine A110 1:47.0 (131 mph)
- Mini Cooper 1310 1:47.0 (119 mph)
- Ford Lotus Cortina 1:47.25 (117 mph)
- Alfa Romeo GTA 1:47.3 (117 mph)
- Ford Falcon 1:47.60 (131 mph)
- Coppa Mille Abarth 1:47.6 (119 mph)
- Jaguar Mark II 1:48.0 (128 mph)
- Lotus Elite 1:48.6 (116 mph)
As for the '76 cars, "#efnet cars league" named them "GTC Slow" and "GTC Fast". I would rather call them GTC-1 and GTC-2. These cars are found under various classes in rFactor. Shelby Cobra is under GTC-65 class i think!
GTC-1
- BMW CSL Schnitzer 1:34.7 (149 mph)
- DeTomaso Pantera (Factory) 1:35.4 (152 mph)
- Ford Capri 3100 1:35.4 (152 mph)
- '69 Corvette 427 1:36.0 (153 mph)
- Porsche 911 RSR 3.0 1:36.5 (140 mph)
- Ford Escort RS 1:36.7 (145 mph)
GTC-2
- Shelby Cobra 427 1:37.2 (158 mph)
- DeTomaso Pantera (Privateer) 1:37.2 (146 mph)
- Porsche 911 2.8 RSR 1:37.3 (139 mph)
- BMW CSL Alpina 1:37.4 (139 mph)
- '74 Corvette LeMans 1:37.6 (150 mph)
- Ferrari Daytona 1:37.8 (146 mph)
- '69 Corvette 350 1:37.8 (146 mph)
- Porsche 906 1:37.8 (142 mph)
- Ford Capri 2600 1:38.3 (138 mph)

Sounds of this mod are all scratch-made for every single car. It is huge work and intensive work. But i find not like all of them, because most are hugely toomuch distorted. Some like it very much, some tend not to like it so much.
Good example is Escort sound, too much overdriven.
From here (http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=308033&postcount=104) you can download original GTL-sounds adopted to HistoriX mod; it overwrites nothing, and you can revert to defaults if you want, altough not that easy method (you would need to rename sound file of every car).

I have no quarrel with the sounds so I'll leave then as they are. I did spend a happy hour sorting those lists into folders, deleting the original folders once the were empty. I hope you're not referring to me driving the Capri while you guys were in Escorts? :) I found it to be very well matched - to my surprise - and had some great laps with Deetz. I had to really push it to keep up with him, and only noticed a very slight advantage on long straights, but even that was negligible. No doubt Deetz and Moose would be significantly faster in the Capri, though :)

Good news. So how does it work, exactly? Can we see what cars are enabled on the server
before we join the server? For example, in the server browser list? Or do we have to keep trying with different cars until we get in? :)

Well you can see which cars are enabled in the server list, but more importantly you would be able to choose ONLY cars which are allowed on server, once you press connect to server.
Classes sorted out so far are only TC-1 and TC-2. GTC will be harder to sort, because all porsches are listed under same class, and some of them are faster some slower. Same goes for the Capri's and Pantera's.
I'm thinking of workaround for this by forcing the fixed setup and then creating setup for faster cars which would make them slower, shorter gears, lower rpm, more fuel - this last one looks the best to me, as it isn't possible to autmate weight penalty adding, and we could set fixed amount of fuel for faster and slower cars. But then again, fuel is burned over a race distance.. And some cars in HGTC have stupidly high mpg, like mini 1310 needs 60 liters per 100km
Well we will see what to do with '76 cars, so far we have '65 sorted.

Keep it simple Smithy. I don't think fuel consumption is of paramount importance. Just sort them into
roughly equal performance.

Ugh, I just spent one and a half hours (could be even two) exporting one (1) lap to an .avi file  And for some reason it doesn't even have audio! The video quality is good, though, but the resolution is a bit small. I tried exporting in a bigger resolution but that would have taken forever, for only 1 lap.
Anyway, now I have a 2 minute video that weighs in at 129mb  Without audio. So I'd have to find a fitting song to add to it or something. And then it doesn't even have different camera angles yet, just the "TV camera"... I'd like to insert some in-car and bonnet footage as well :g: Oi, making videos is time consuming!

ALT+F9.
Anyway, I've managed to put something simple together, it's "compiling" now. I'm not sure if the end result will be any good, though, I'm doing it with Windows Movie Maker and for some reason it increases the resolution of the video, making it look all grindy and stuff :eyebrow: Something else I'll need to fiddle around with then.
So, is it only possible to join races inbetween sessions? I can't see it on the server list any longer (it was there before)
So, I finally received GTL yesterday and subsequently installed the HistorX mod and went online. This mod feels great! :D Excellent physics I must say. With RealFeel it feels a whole lot more lively than LFS. Closer to iRacing than LFS, I'd say. And, best of all, it runs very nicely on my PC! I've turned the graphics way down, but I'll try tuning it up notch by notch to see how far I can go without getting any stuttering.
Great stuff!
Driving those Lotus Elite's around Cadwell was bloody fantastic, and it all felt a bit iRacing like to me as well.
That was one of the most fun nights racing I've had for quite a while. One fight in particular with Lovretta was epic. I was going to do a vid, but then i realised it only saves the last 5 replays from any track and i no longer had it.:crying:

Yeah, really really fantastic lastnight it was! :taz:
If you are willing to do video i can send you some replay's, my rF is set to record alot of replays...
Today, I has been mainly thrashing a Healey around Brands :)
Very enjoyable :D
Its a long time since I tried GTL. The 900 degree steeering takes getting used to and Ron will be pleased to know I've reverted to shifter. Could'nt do anything other.
When I find a link to the server, I may consider giving you lot a lesson. In getting out of the way :)
Quote from: Doorman;273904I.P is 82.34.44.197. Try that.
Look for "Finnglish Racing" in the server list, or add the above IP manually :) Hope to see you on track soon!
I see you guys are having loads of fun. And more and more of you are doming into this. Maybe i'll stop by at Wednesday night to have one last race before i come back in June... Uhh no racing for 3 weeks :crying:

Miss you already
Woohoo, GTL arrived today. Configurating and downloading tracks now. :flirty:
Wahey, congrats! :D You won't regret it.
One tip: fiddle around with the sound settings ingame. I turned the engine sound all the way down to get more tyre squeel and ambient noises. Made it a little easier. :)
Quote from: Seany;276521Woohoo, GTL arrived today. Configurating and downloading tracks now. :flirty:
And your first impressions were...?
Very impressive:) I found it a lot easier to pick up than netkar, as far as keeping the car on track goes. And you can have a bit of fun with the car without the fear your going come off the track every corner. Graphics are nice, I'd say pretty much on par with LFS except for nicer lighting and much nicer detail on the cars. It does seem a bit more "grainy", but from what I have seen so far this may be down to the tracks and how high quality the are. Sound is really good, from engine to tire squeal, very nice feedback.
I am very pleased with the amount of content with all the tracks and cars, there's tons of it!
Cheers Moose and Ron for helping me configure all the configurables this eve, looking forward to more racing soon. :)
Just wanted to say that I had a couple of really nice races yesterday :boxing: :D
That little Abarth is just crazy... :roflmao:
ps. I noticed it's really nice to have the ability op just some pick up races instead of the scheduled netKar Pro events :|

Yup, had great fun again last night. I love those pocket rockets :)
After netKar League races and iRacing i've found pick up racing in HistoriX to be the ultimate in stress busting fun.

Indeed. I was about to post that in the iRacing thread as a response to your post, Stuart. For me, iRacing and rFactor fulfill two different needs. They complement each other very nicely.
iRacing = "every race counts", league-ish feeling before each race, loads of practice needed, etc etc. Can't do many races in a row. Sometimes it gets a little sterile if you're either faster/slower than the other guys. Not much close fighting necessarily (though this depends a lot on who you're racing against and how well you know them!)
rFactor + HistorX = fun, relaxed atmosphere, close fighting, sliding around, etc etc.
So, before my hiatus, I used to do a couple of iRacing races first and then swap over to rFactor afterwards. Perfect! :)

It did wonders for my lap time. but only I just recently found out that I have to drag the setup to correct folder or else it's gone after you restart rFactor. In other words... I lost it... :crying:
Some more terrific races last night :yahoo: There were a good few people on, and some new faces who appeared to be pretty fast guys. Those car classes seem to be pretty well balanced on most tracks, allowing for diverse grids of cars. I especially loved the couple of close battles I had with Ron :boxing: Great driving there, mate!

In that last race I didn't really have much time to be patient as it was the last lap. I really wanted to lay the heat down on you, and I was thoroughly enjoying it. Too bad that Mck8 guy felt he had to come between us, even though he was a lap down :sideways:
I'm guessing the server is offline because it's nkPro night tonight?
No, it's up albeit a tad late.
Server not online yet? :) I don't know if there's gonna be much people online with the 1hr race on LFS but you never know.

Sorry, all sorted now. While rebooting the router it reset the IPs and because one of the PCs wasn't on it gave out different IPs

I've just had a kerfuffle with my router which resulted in me kicking it down the stairs! Replaced router, but a new IP was issued at the same time. If you don't see Finnglish in the list the IP is 94.168.126.236. It you use the favourites/Bookmarks you'll have to do it again.
Tip: rFactor\UserData\You\Bookmarks.xml Open it in Notepad and delete the existing Finnglish. Otherwise you'll end up with two entries and only one will work. (trying to keep the frustration factor down :) )
*Sigh* I give up. Lately it seems I'm spending more time waiting for the session to open so I can join than I do actually racing. And then when I can finally enter the server everyone's gone! That combined with the fact that there is virtually no racing to be found outside the Finnglish server is really killing this great mod for me

If you hadn't have been so bloody impatient you would have got some racing. After Watkins Glen when you disappeared, Jamin and Sean joined so with Lameduck, me plus you that makes five. That's the sort of numbers that bring even more in. If you want to be on a busy server you have to contribute to that server. If you simply want full servers the LFS is the place to go. You want HistoriX to be popular, help make it popular.

What do you mean impatient?! After Watkins Glen you and Bob both left without saying anything and I sat on the server waiting for you guys to come back. The next track (Long Beach) loaded and I waited a while but since you didn't say if you were leaving or anything I thought maybe there was something wrong or some other event you both had to be at or something so I left. An hour or so later I fired up rF again and I see there's 2 (two) people on - I guess by then two people had already left again -, I try to join but the session is closed. I wait it out, and when I join the server's empty again  Ugh...
Disclaimer: I'm tired and frustrated right now for reasons completely unrelated to this right now, so there's a chance that I'll come across more cross than I intend to be. I don't mean to insult anybody. But....
.... this server and the work that's been put into making it happen is something that I'm very grateful of. It didn't just come to be of itself. Therefore I think we should be thankful for what we've got. If you like it, spread the word, populate the server and enjoy it. If you have constructive suggestions of improvement, Doorz has already shown that he'll listen. (just look at all the tracks that have been added by popular demand, etc.) He's not a dictator.
But: ranting and raving about stuff that's out of his control and he can do nothing about is just silly. Oh noes, nobody else was on when you tried connecting.. well, get over it already. :sideways: Sure you can be displeased and disappointed or whatever, but why come to the forums ranting about it?? It just creates an air of negativity that is competely non-constructive. In general: (and this applies to real life as well) I hate it when people complain about stuff just to complain, when they know already that there's nothing the listener can do about it anyway. It's just unneccessary.
I'm sure you didn't mean to insult Doorz, but still.. the golden rule "think before you post" applies. :)

Hang on, did I just contradict myself by posting this?
For my part, I'm sorry if I came over all tetchy. Bob and I (on ventrilo) went to get cars that were more in keeping with yours. By the time we got back you were gone! Anyway, it's been very hot and sweaty here today so let's hope it's cooler tomorrow. :D
Doorz was so upset that I won my first Historix race :D and whupped the pair of you, that he insisted that we change cars to give you both a chance.:roflmao:
Needless to say, I never completed a race after that:crying:
Doors kept asking where you had gone but as far as recall you never appeared on 'chat' or anywhere else in the game.

Hey I have been trying to find the server for the last couple of weeks. It doesn't appear in the server list, and I have tried adding it but it says it doesn't get any results.
Does the server only run at certain times? And is it down at the moment?
Would like to try this with you guys :) Been playing against the AI since it was released pretty much and its such a blast, I think I'd explode in excitement if I actually managed to get a proper race in. :woot2:
Hiya Matt. I fire it up about 7pm. Check the 'Tracks you'll need' thread and make sure the versions you have are the same. It's a drawback with rFactor that there are so many people making tracks etc. Particularly look out for the CADWELL.gdb, it's a must have. See ya tonight? I'll be on if no-one else! :D
In fact I'll start it now.
Cool, yeah got all the maps. Redownloaded em just to be sure they're the same version. Had enough headaches with mismatches and stuff before. :)
Will have a look for it in a bit :lmfao: The server not being up doesn't help in me finding it, haha. I thought it was just rFactor being screwy.
Is the server up Ron, I have tried all weekend and no server, with either the old IP or new.
Mind you , it meant I enjoyed a cracking 30 Lap race round Oran Park in Lotus Elan with about 30 other like minded loonatics. :woot2:

What? Where was that?
Doorz has been having router problems (as he mentioned in 2 different posts, already), which is why the server is offline at the moment. It will be up again sometime this week hopefully.

Do tell. I know, AI...yes?
Quote from: Doorman;278550Do tell. I know, AI...yes?
That's what I was thinking but it would surprise me. Although the AI seem to be a bit more intelligent than the AI in LFS they're still not very smart. I've tried numerous times to do the offline championships with 19 AI's. The first track is always Goodwood, and they always go off in the first right hand turn. Within the first 2 laps they cause such mayhem that the safety car comes out for a number of laps. And then when the safety car comes back in and we get a green flag again it's only a few laps before the same thing happens again. And that's if I'm lucky. I've seen them crash into the safety car effectively taking it out, and then stay behind it
Maybe I should try it without yellow flags... :g:
LOL, no AI involved, just 28 (I checked my replay) real people. :D
The server was news.rfactorcentral... server 6
They have a Porsche 911 at Rattlesnake Pass combo this week. The track is fictional (I think) and is a bit too long and bland.
But I think I'll be checking Sunday evening to see if there is another hoard of people to race.
:boxing:
Hmm, interesting. So is that some kind of weekly event then, you think? Is there any info on this? I'm browsing rF central at the moment but can't seem to find anything about it.
RF central every week (or almost every) holds such events with different mods and tracks, for some of them you pay some small amount of money like 2 $ or 5$ and you compete whole week in 5 classes for top prize of 250$ in each class - classes are divided on final rank, 5 by 5.
Not sure can you connect if no pay is done, but they also host free events, probably something like Deetz was driving.
If you are looking for free events, have a look at RaceDepartment. I have come across quite a few HistoriX events on there, and tbh theres something of everything so its worth a look. :)
Also Obsolum, did you try setting warm up laps before your race? Sometimes the AI can go a bit screwy otherwise. I think they are meant to improve over time as well?
Yup, AI is meant to be better over time. Butttt. rF AI depend heavily on how good the modder made them for his particular car and how good the track AIW is...
Thats why you get interesting AI in simbin games (don't qoute me on this, others who choose AI as #1 say so) - they made their specifc files for the car very good (as i know, lots of testing) and tracks also have good AIW....
Yeah I only run practice sessions with the AI in HistoriX and have noticed they are very prone to oversteer. They usually correct it but end up losing loads of seconds over it so they aren't the best of competition.
I got a few point to point tracks that they really seem to hate, and just getting them out the pits and on the track moving is a challenge in itself. Don't really know much about pathing but I guess with these tracks its just a case of them not knowing where the track is or whatever.

Looking at the site now but don't see anything HistorX related. I'll have a closer look later, though.
Quote from: mattgirv;278614Also Obsolum, did you try setting warm up laps before your race? Sometimes the AI can go a bit screwy otherwise. I think they are meant to improve over time as well?
Yeah, they definitely seem to improve over time. I had a 30 lap race earlier today and by the end the best of the AI were running more or less the same laptimes as me. I never do the warmup laps, though. I just do 1 quali lap and then skip ahead to the race.
The AI training procedure for RFactor can be found here:
http://www.simracingworld.com/content/326-ai-learning-step-by-step-guide/
Phew, that's quite a handful. I would have thought it was just a matter of changing some lines in some file and be done with it :D Interesting, though, I'll try that later. Thanks!
I did the AI learning process and it worked well, but I'm stuck at this step:
QuoteLook in C:\Program Files\rFactor\GameData\Vehicles\\ now in the TEAM that did the learning there will be a .INI file
I've searched the entire rF folder for *.ini files that were modified today and none appeared in the Vehicles folder :g:
Well, now that I'm home I've double checked the server.
And it was....... rFactorNews.com - Server 6
I have just checked the website, and it looks....Spanish?
There were a lot of non English names on the server, and most of the in game chat was ....Spanish ?.
Still it was good and (shock) mostly very clean racing.
Hi ppl. I wonder if there is any solution to check if you guys are online, like "lfs world" you know.
Also I can try to host one server until the router arrives. I've done it in the past to race my LFS mates, but dont know if it can handle 10 cars or more.
