Any little wrinkles you've discovered about rF or the GTL mod, would you kindly share them with us. :)
I'll start. Last night we were having a bit of a moan about the FF on Brands Hatch. Very 'bumpy' track surface it felt like. While having a fiddle with the setting I notice the FF was set to Full and I didn't even touch anything, honest! Set it back to Low as RealFeel requires and Hey Presto! Brands was normal again. :yahoo:
On the subject of controller setups, it irritated me (not hard I know) to have to scroll through presets for kit I don't have. Go to UserData\Controller and delete everything you don't use :) That's one irritation out of the way. How, what's next? :norty:
Here's what Smith has to add, hopefully no translation issues will arise :DIssue #1There's something more in this "bumpy" tracks issues then just FFB settings. Partly due to overdone track surface bumps by track modders - this "issue" applies to all cars, both 65, 72 and 76 ones, other "issue" lies in '65 cars suspension models which aren't up to "Niels's standards".
Here is what Yoshimura - the quy who did '65 cars physics has to say
Quote"well, about the 65 cars (except the 906, which is made by Niels, just like the 72/76 cars), I'm aware of some issues and the physics are being completely redone at this very moment. We hope that these bugs are solved in the next update ;)"

Issue #2About the tracks, often tracks have waaay to big bumps, Niels's post quoted:
Quote"Often indeed a combination of overdone track 'sine wave bumps' and odd numbers being used in the suspension and tires. The actual physics engine has almost never been the cause of this behaviour, but if your input is wrong, so will be the output.
I was checking the telemetry of a LMP1 type car at Mid Ohio and the rear of the car changed in 'weight' (rear tire load) 800kg (1800lbs) at about 5 times per second over the sine wave bumps. Thats just silly.
What I recently found and is also on the silly side is the default bump wave length for kerbstones which is 8 meters in many tracks. You would expect kerbstones to be high frequency short 'rumbles', not gentle waves. Change that to 1 meter and you'll feel proper kerbstones, plus the telemetry will show a nice 'rattle' on the suspension. If you also change amplitude and wavelength of the track road bumps, you can finally see tire load telemetry that makes sense.
I hope one day track designers use telemetry instead of 'feel'.. If they'd really feel those bumps, on many tracks our teeth would've fallen out, multiple times a lap! "

Issue #3And theres one more thing regarding Cadwell Park;
It has too high grip value.
Quote from Historic Gt forum:
Quote"yes track problem if you look in gdb file it says
RoadDryGrip=1.18
normal tracks use value 1.0 there
So this track has 18% more grip then normal, which is odd since moss grows on it on some places..
This causes strange car behaviour and f1 type feel for HistorX cars compared to the same car on other tracks."
[/I]
Also from the same thread:
Quote"1.18 is indeed like mounting F1 qualifying tires to these cars, with a normal centre of gravity they can easily roll over then ..
Silly track."
Complete discussion over here (http://historicgt.8.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=1116)
I'm proposing that WE modifiy this grip value to 1,0. This explains crazy behaviour of the Escort over there, i rolled it over several times there, because of the too much grip + very simplified camber calculation in rF (on this topic you can read in the same thread about cadwell)
I've modified it! Attached is the .gdb file Locations\Cadwell\Cadwell backup the original. We'll see if it's as simple as that. More fiddling! :D
I guess it should be simple. Errm simple fiddling :sideways:
When i get back home, will copy over my tracks folder, gonna set up the telemetry, and experiment with these crazy bumps. Referent tracks are gonna be Eastern Creek, because it's laser scanned, and Oran Park, which is also laser scanned, AFAIK more advanced or detailed laser scanning method was used when creating Oran Park.
If i ever come with something usable, we may try it...
Like I said, I've modified the .gdb file and it's now on the server. I've tried it and it feels perfect.

Ron, i wasn't referring to just grip value, there also seems to be a lot of exaggeration of bumps on track, like bumps 10 cm high which is errm... very big, bigger then any speed bump :dribble:
Smith is cousing more confusion :D
It's becoming my specialty :narnar:

I understand that, but it's the one thing we/I can do in the meantime.
It's probably not a good idea to mess around with things too much in case we put people off! I've amended the track that's on the download section so any new folk wont have to fiddle. :D
I now see your point. And i must say you are right, new people wont' come to have some fun with us if tehy see all we are discussing is what numbers in what file will cause what
So let's just have fun. And to all you who are checlking this new subforum, and wondering "should I?". Go for it. It isn't really hard nor complicated. And on top of all, it's FUN :taz:
Fingers crossed that my copy of GTL arrives today!
I'm not sure if this belongs in this thread but anyway...
In some cars I lower my seat quite a bit because the steering virtual steering wheel blocks the tachometer and/or gearshift indicator light, or because it gives me a bigger field of view as the roof and the windshield sticker don't take up as much space on my monitor that way. As a result, though, I saw nothing but sky in my rear view mirrors. Very annoying, obviously :)
To adjust your mirrors you use the same keys you use to move your seat up or down, but in combination with the shift key. I had to search on the internet to find this. I thought I'd post it here in case anyone else has the same "problem".

So that's how it's done. Well done Watson! :D
I remember back in days i also had these "issues" :lmfao:
It isn't bad idea to ask here first things like these, it can save you from, which sometimes could last really long, googling
FOV too far away? Settings/Display/Vertical FOV. Right hand side near the bottom. :)
Someone asked about "Virtual Mirror" last night. If i remeber correctly, it was Toddshooter?
You need to edit your .plr file, located in \UserData\-your-player-name-\-your-player-name.plr
Edit the line shown in picture:
http://www.imagesforme.com/show.php/492506_rfactorvirtualmirrorplr.jpg
Change it to "1".
Then when you enter the game you will see 3 virtual mirrors on top of the screen Left - Center - Right V-mirror.
If you don't want to see all three of them, you can cycle through various combinations with "3" key (or whatever the key you mapped to "Toggle mirror" option in controls adjustment, 3 is default.
I guess you want v-mirror because real mirrors are way off, and showing you how the road or sky behind you looks? Well, you can adjust them, holding RightSHIFT and keys you have mapped for Seat Up-Down-Fore-Aft.
Wicked Thanks M8:D
The other issue I have with the mirrors is they are so dark my old eyes can't see anything even if they are aimed right.

Top tip. Ben tried to tell me the other night but I'd pressed my 'twit' button instead.
Not sure which thread to put this in but... is the server offline? I can't seem to find it :g:
Just put it up. Sorry, was watching tv.
You are forgiven :)
rFactor keeps crashing upon loading the Spa Francorchamps track :g: Any ideas?

I think i had a prob with that one when extracting it as it was in the RAR.
The correct folder structure should be
Locations/F1_1988_C4/11_SpaFrancorchamps

Yeah, I figured that out yesterday. It was indeed in the wrong folder
Is there a way to change the "pit menu" default settings? Right now it's always set to change all tyres and add a full tank of fuel. If I have to make an unexpected pitstop for fuel - like last race :ranting2: - I just need a bit of fuel, so I have to keep pressing buttons to decrease the amount of fuel and keep the current tyres on the car, which is very distracting if you're still racing, obviously.
I know I can do it during the countdown before the lights go on but... isn't there a way to change it permanently? I want it set to do nothing :)
The best I can find is:
Go to your obsolum.PLR file in UserData and look for these lines:
Relative Fuel Strategy="0" // Show how much fuel to ADD, rather than how much TOTAL fuel to fill the tank up to
Smart Pitcrew="1" // Pitcrew does things even if you mistakenly forgot to ask (one example is changing a damaged tire)
Automatic Pit Menu="4" // brings up pit menu automatically: 0=disabled, 1=upon pit ENTRY, change cockpit menu but do not bring up HUD, 2=pit ENTRY->cockpit & HUD, 3=pit REQUEST->cockpit menu only, 4=pit REQUEST->cockpit & HUD
Miscellaneous="0"
Hope that helps, :)
To look around further or "glance" left or right more, goto C:\Program Files\rFactor\UserData\yourplayername, open yourplayername.plr and find :
Glance Angle="0.75000" // Angle to look left/right (yaw) w/ controller in radians (= degrees / 57)
I changed it to Glance Angle="1.99000" and now I can look over my shoulders at who is overtaking me :thumb:
To get your fav upgrades on all cars so you don't have to select them when changing to a new car goto C:\Program Files\rFactor\UserData\yourplayername and backup then open HISTORIC GT.cch, look for a car you have set the upgrade on, in my case it's:
[VEHICLE]
ID=195
File="GAMEDATA\VEHICLES\HISTORIC GT\HISTORICAL FIA GT\GTC-65\PORSCHE 911S\2005\0515\0515.VEH"

then do a find and replace* of

It doesn't seem to cost anything either so you've got more to spend on speeding in the pitlane fines :thumb:
*notepad won't copy the line breaks so you will have to find an app that will, I used dreamweavers code view as it does.

Ahh cheers, this should help a lot with situational awareness and TrackIR.

I'm still not entirely sure about how the upgrades work, as far as controllers are concerned. I have a 3 pedal setup with a shifter and I want it as realistic as possible, so anyone know what should I use?
Edit, I also remember Todd mentioning some thing about virtual mirrors? Anyone know how to enable them? If I understood him that is.

Hmm, not really what I was looking for but the relative fuel strategy is a start. Thanks :)

If I'm not mistaken the default setting is the one you want, ie. 3 pedal setup with no auto-blip. I never change anything there.

That's also in your PLR file under Graphics
ahh nice one Ron and Obs
Here's another one from the .PLR file book of wrinkles. Look for 'Compressed textures' default is 1 stick a 0 in there and behold! I think it's the LFS equivalent of 'Use half textures'. In any event, it really sharpens things up.
Does this (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=1176271#post1176271) feel relevant to anyone with a Momo wheel?
I thought of Ben when I read that.
I'm used to it now, tank slappers are a bit hard to catch esp in rfactor but a bit of sawing at the wheel usually sorts it out :D
I'm having something very strange happening here. Normally when you leave the pits you get this voice saying "RealFeel enabled" right? Well I didn't get that anymore so I pressed the hotkey to change the FFB to see if it still worked. That started off the voice summing up the entire alphabet, first in alphabetical order, then in seemingly random order, and then she (it?) began to read endless pages of incoherent texts. She went on for about 10 - 15 minutes and then just stopped mid-sentence.
Has anyone had this happen before? I figure it's some sort of autocalibration setting for the voice, but I wonder what set it off. It still doesn't say "RealFeel enabled" upon leaving the pits, but I know it's still running.

In the RealFeelPlugin.ini does it say SpeechEnabled=True?
I wonder if pressing the hotkey started him reading the whole ini.
I thought I had most of the sheisse rFactor could sling at you but that's a new one on me!
Funny nonetheless :D Would be pretty confusing if (s)he started reading random crap in the middle of a race.
It does say "SpeechEnabled=True", yes.
Well, I won't be pressing the hotkeys again, I think :)
Maybe better place to ask for this is this thread (http://rfgrc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2292) at RFGRC forum.
Guy behind nickname TechAde is the creator of RealFeel, he would try to help you. There were some other guys with bizarre problems.
It seems I've got a little problem with rF in Windows 7. I just get a black screen :g: I want to try running it under directx 8 or even 7 but I have no idea where I can change that setting. Is there a file somewhere that contains this so I can change it?
rFactor config.exe in the rFactor folder.
How about rFactor config? (it's an .exe file, with a shortcut on the start menu)
Thanks, found it. Unfortunately it didn't solve my problem  I get the same result both in dx8 & dx7 :g:
Looks like I won't be able to make Doorz' Friday Tour this week either
EDIT: alright, looks like this problem is bigger than just rF. I get the same problem with LFS and when I try nkP the game hangs when loading the file cars/F1600/shadow.nko. Which is odd because I played nkp just fine yesterday.
Well, looks like I've got some investigating to do. Bloody Windows 7... and it was looking so good, too!
Alright, I've found the culprit. Apparently this docking app that I use (ObjectDock Plus) causes my games to not work in Windows 7. I terminated it and all is well again. A pitty 'cause I really do like that little app. Didn't cause problems in Vista, either.
Phew! :)
