Title: google's O3D - any potential?
Post by: delanvital on May 07, 2009, 03:18:43 PM
http://code.google.com/apis/o3d/

I installed the api and tried the beach demo and it worked fine... technically. But as a concept, is it worth it? Are we on the path to realising Gibson's ideas as some witty Danish reporter wrote? :)

I noticed it does not use threads it seems... only load on one core...

That's pretty interesting, I can see what they have planned for this.

Street view without the arrows. Walk freely from side to size and it'll render the images as if the camera has move position (which is why it need a 3D engine). It's pretty cool innovation. Though it's graphicly poor compared to games obviously.

Well I am sure more advanced graphical elements can be added. This is very basic for now. If you have installed the app, then try the house-furtiture combo. Shows how HTML and 3D works together, and you can click and drag stuff as well.
