Good job tonight, Freya hit the dirt. Next stop: Hodir!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7TcxJY1VQw

From the above video you may get the impression that the fight is incredibly complex (at least I did!) but it's not that bad.

The encounter starts with 4 NPCs cased in ice. We take them down in order of marks. They provide us with buffs and other handy things. When they are free, dps goes onto the boss.

The boss has a couple of abilities we need to deal with. The first is Biting Cold. Biting Cold works like the debuff on Keristrasza, the last boss in the Nexus. It stacks a damaging debuff that can only be removed by moving. Hence the entire fight is quite mobile. The tank will constantly be in motion and the raid should move every few casts as well, to avoid stacking this debuff too high.

Second is Snowfall. Snowfall puts a Blizzard-like circle on the ground (and snowflakes in the air above it), under a player, indicating where a giant hunk of snow and ice will land a few seconds later, dealing a good ammount of damage (I'm guessing 10k+ on normal, judging by how hp was dropping). If you see this rune under you, it's paramount that you move out of it straight away.

The third thing he will do is put a Frost Nova effect under a person in the raid, and anyone within 10 yards of that person. This should be only a small hindrance, it can be dispelled (at least on 10 man) like a normal Frost Nova. Gets annoying when your buff stacks are getting high, or when it happens right when you have a rune under you.

Fourth mechanic is Frozen Blow. Every once in a while, he puts a buff on himself that reduces his physical damage done by 70%, but adds 31k Frost Damage to his hits. Additionally, everyone in the raid will take 4000 Frost Damage every couple of seconds for the duration of this buff, which is 20 seconds. Spike damage on the tank and an increase of incoming raid damage. This is probably the biggest reason for FrR kit, especially on the tank.

Finally he will cast Flash Freeze every so often. What this does is put 3 runes on the floor, similar to the Snowfall ones, except about twice their size. Everyone needs to move to the edge of these runes and wait. After a few seconds, the Snowfall effect will come, dropping a chunk of ice down. The instant it has dropped, everyone needs to get in the middle of the rune, which has now turned into a Snow Mound, immediately, because roughly 2 seconds later Hodir will cast Flash Freeze. This puts everyone who is not on the Snow Mound in a casket of ice like the ones the NPCs were in before the fight. Once it is cast, dps should focus on getting the NPCs out of their caskets again (assuming they haven't accidently wandered into the snow mound as well), as well as any players who weren't fast enough. Naturally the latter should not happen unless someone got frozen by the Frost Nova thing right before Flash Freeze.

So the practice of the fight in one sentence is: staying out of the Snowfall runes and keeping your debuff stacks down, whilst dpsing Hodir down quick enough for the enrage timer (8 minutes), using buffs given by the NPCs. Once the Flash Freeze comes, the raid needs to get onto a Snow Mound and avoid getting Frozen, it's then rinse and repeat until Hodir dies.

The NPCs provide useful buffs to make the fight easier. The Mage puts down Campfires, which act as little Snow Mounds. Standing near them prevents the stacking debuff and removes Flash Freeze from you. They also grant you a chance to Sear your target when dpsing. Sear deals 3000 Fire damage and increases magical damage taken by 2% for 25 seconds, and stacks up to 30 times. They will not work to prevent Flash Freeze from happening on you, as these fires are extinguished by both Flash Freeze and Snowfall. They will however remove the Flash Freeze on you if it's cast near you. This means that the mage is always a priority target to get out of a Flash Freeze, so it can start chucking around fires to liberate other people.

The druid puts down Starlight, spotlights around the room. Standing in them increases your melee and casting speed by 100%. Stand in them to maximize dps, but remember to keep moving every once in a while, and get out of them if a Snowfall is dropped on you (of which the chances are pretty high if alot of players are stacked under one Starlight). The Shaman gives Storm Cloud to people. If these people proceed to 'touch' 4 other players, those players will get 135% critical strike damage bonus. I'm not sure what is meant by 'touch' however :g:. The priest heals and dispells. Needless to say, all these buffs make it easy to overaggro.

It is the lightning spark effect on the person (looks similar to Arcane Power i think) and didnt help sheep was saying "X run away" i think cause it puts a skull on their head

Not what i've seen, i've seen a fire still alight over a snow mound but dont trust me on that, i was running on Energy drinks last night

Quote from: Azunai;275543*****EVERYONE SHOULD GET 2 OR 3 PARTS OF FROST RESISTANCE GEAR FOR THIS ENCOUNTER******
You 'could' get everyone to get some frost resistance gear, but only the MT needs it.   A paladin FrR aura or a totem is sufficient.  We run normal gear in 25 man with only the MT having any FrR gear on.  You still need very good dps during this fight which needs to be buffed by the NPCs so try it without first of all is my advice.

And novas can be dispelled in 25 man too.

Tip of the Week:
Make sure your vidseo settings have 'Projected Textures' enabled (I think that is the name) as it allows you to see the pre-ability animations on the floor around you.

Removed the rather harsh FrR kit message :) But I guess in the learning phase it can help if people stay alive longer to see what's going on ^^

As for the fires, tooltip of the spell says they're doused by Flash Freeze and Snowfall, not sure if that's correct still,  but just passing the message :)

As for the touching, ok so the person with the Skull over their head gives the 4 people he walks over a buff or something? Or do people need to be near him all the time? Something we need to check next time.

You'll find the explanation and info you need in the Announcement thread of 17th November 2008.
