Theres been a real flourish on the forum and quite a few people taking up windows 7.
I will be trying it at the end of the month on a clean hard disk and pull out my xp hdd. Had a bad experience with dual boot so gonna try a single disk and see what i think. Should be fine from what others have said but i will keep my xp disk safe incase i need to revert back :).
So simply will you try the rc1 trial as its a valid windows copy till june 2010 or wait till its gone gold?
I voted for I will try the rc1 and then make my decision
Think i will be sticking to Vista (until it breaks) cause I only see Windows 7 as being a very expensive patch / fix on Vista , but i may change my mind, need to play with it more
got it running on the lappy and duel booting the main, only using it for surfing on my main thou, vista 64 can still do everything else.
i probably wont get it for my main as i still think this is what vista should have been 2 yrs ago so i aint paying for what i should have got.
probably get it for the lappy thou as its quicker than xp pro that was on it
I never moved from XP to Vista.
So I think XP to 7 is a good upgrade.
But once released it will probably be part of a brand new system.
So an all over upgrade for me

I'll stick to XP for as long as possible.

Same here, with L4D reigniting my love for PC gaming I guess I'll be updating at some point, so i'll be wanting a new OS to go with the new system I'd suppose.
I'll put it on when I buy it. Which will be as soon as I see it released at a good price. Hopefully I'll get a good deal if I upgrade my copy of vista.
Got XP on and think I'll stick to this.
Might have alook though @ Windows 7.
I use Vista to play games and Linux for everything else. Vista plays games fine and Windows 7 is a very poor substitute for Ubuntu 9.04. So I'll keep things as they are.
Supposedly they fixed a lot of memory overhead issues and such in Windows 7, so the OS should be far less bloated. Got a mate running the beta on a pretty damn high spec laptop (Core 2 Duo @ 2.6 gig, 4GB RAM, GeForce 8 series mobile) and it flies compared to Vista on the same machine. As such, as soon as the Uni gets a VLK version that i'm eligible to use at home i'll be installing it. Won't be going to the RC1 only to then have to reinstall a few months later though.

I agree with Lameduck, XP works fine at the moment...
Well I think I agree, not sure what that bracket is doing there :bleh:

Its not a bracket, its the edge of another banner as any fuel can see. :sideways:
chances are i will go with 7 on my new system when i get round to buying it.
any rough eta's on 7 going gold?
lovin RC1 at the moment.. no problems yet (fingers crossed)
I've downloaded the RC1 iso from the Microsoft site.
Sorry, can someone tell me how I make it workable as a DVD?
Thanks

Use a program such as InfraRecorder (http://infrarecorder.org/) to burn the ISO image to a DVD (I believe the button to push inside the program says "Write Image") :)
Nice one thanks.

I'm sure I just double clicked and it automatically opened Nero ready to be burned from there
I don't have Nero. In fact I had no DVD recording software until that InfraRecorder link. I did have Nero once but removed it once the trial had expired.
InfraRecorder works perfectly and it's free which is always a bonus :)
I've installed it and have yet to play with it. Any good tips or things people have come across as yet?

I loved XP but since the 3rd patch I started to have real problems with it, BSOD and from some reason my FPS in games would suddenly drop and the game would become unplayable.
That a side I do really need new PC, ISP and Router tbh
EDIT : The missus's PC get crashing BSOD till I uninstalled the 3rd Patch too anyone else had problems?
Sticking with Vista at the moment, I've only just got that up and running really don't want to spend any more time faffing around with more installations.
rather spend all my spare time playing games (which isn't much)

It's kind of funny... Microsoft's greatest competitor is their own 8 (?) year old OS! I bet they're all regretting that they made XP so good. :D
I'll upgrade to Windows 7 when I build my new PC a little over a year from now.
Just wondering how many people go and buy a new os to upgrade an exsiting system. I would have thought most people upgrade when buying new kit!
I'll upgrade (down Smilo) to Windows 7 when the first must-have doohickey only runs on it.
I upgraded to vista to get DX10 support. I didn't see much point having an DX10 graphics card and not using DX10.
It's like if you have a 64bit processor it's silly to use anything but vista 64bit (I know there's a 64bit XP but the drivers were a joke when I tried it)

QFT. I'll be going to Windows 7 when it gets released simply because it's what Vista *should* have been, and I am lucky enough to get legal free copies of new MS OSes via work.
check some of these out..
