i spoke about this b4 the lan, you have 2 types of delete on the site
 
soft- thread still visable
hard- gone
 
i used to be able to do this to threads in my section, i had about 8 options, now ihave this only

Oh...good, no delete available to me either (couldn't check this last night as I was way too out of it).....

BTW Sulky, any chance you could lose that avatar, I lose hours at a time when I read your posts?

What about thread tools? Can you delete individual threads?

I've looked through the permissions and Sulky's is the same as everyone else so there's no reason for it.

Hmmm hang in there and we'll get to the bottom of it.

In folding, this is what I have in thread tools in a thread:

Close Thread         Move Thread
         Copy Thread
         Edit Thread
                               Stick Thread
             Merge Threads
             Remove Redirects

Well, that's fine as it mirrors mine (logged in as administrator). The 'post' delete options are at the bottom of the page.....

I've just made a new forum user called modtest and given him mod powers here and it's fine.

As administrator, here is my thread tools (top) and post tools (bottom).

top:

The hard delete function is not available for moderators but soft delete should.

How are yours different?

I dont have that options Pen.
I cant even del a thread...

When i open a thread and click on one post then i only can del that post...got me...:rolleyes:

Edit: im also missing now the sticky thing...i cant make a post sticky anymore something that always has worked for me.
        Hmm i have too go too the thread then select a post then i can make it sticky...weird ore was that the normal way...dont know it now any more.
Okay last thing for today bout this.....seems that it works now correct..need too look beter..

There was a spam post on the Technology section a couple of weeks ago which I managed to delete. The method used was to edit the post and then delete it via the " delete message" button in the edit page............I think

Could this also be down to the reason why I can't edit the title of my threads? (as discussed in a previous thread)

We're on it.

Everyone should now be able to "soft delete" a post.  We don't want the hard delete option used in case there are complaints regarding the post and we need to check what was said.  The delete thread option should not be used as moderators should move the thread to compost corner rather than delete it.

If there are still issues then please post a reply in this thread. :)

I seem to remember that I wasn't able to send the post to the Compost Corner, I didn't have permission to do this. Seems only top dogs, sorry, Mods, can do this?

I think you need to be an administrator to view the posts in Compost Corner however you should be able to send posts to it.

It's a garbage bucket into which we chuck stuff.  Whether we should retain it or just hard delete periodically was under discussion recently in Admin section.  It was originally meant to be a visible sign to users that we actively moderate stuff and a record in case we ever needed any 'evidence'.  For that reason it is visible but not viewable.  Only Admins can view the posts.
