This is an interesting one, ideas welcomed.
I have what is commonly known as a crap DSL service. It's free, it holds up most of the time and I can manage it, so can't be bothered to upgrade to whoever, unless it means someone else doing it for me.
I have a Netgear 834GV1 which has server me well for about 4 years. Wireless has worked fine, and I've used MAC filtering to keep out the bad guys.
Lately my connection has been pretty poor and I wasn't sure why. My son has had wireless on his Xbox, PS3, Wii all running fine and concurrently with no major issues, but lately the connection has been a problem. I assumed it was carrier so ignored it until this morning when I started experimenting.
If I disable wireless it works fine. If I enable wireless on the router connection from my (wired) desktop stops dead. It's almost as if the router can't handle both. I've checked connected on the wireless and see no issues. I've checked all the basics.
I have a spare 834Gv3 which I've tried, but it doesn't hold the synch on the DSL (which is eminently frustrating - the old one must be more hardcore).
So, no wireless, all fine. Wireless on, wired stops - even when there are no wireless stations attached.
Please don't ask me for traceroutes or if I've upgraded the firmware, I've done all that stuff, but this one is weird, I've never seen a router make routing decisions based on being a bit tired and not managing two types of connection :)
Might be stupid but - hardware reset?

Perhaps try and run netstumbler (http://www.avforums.com/forums/networking/397854-netgear-dg834-wireless-problems.html) and see how heavy the wireless traffic is around you?

Perhaps the wireless being influenced causes the whole router to go down?
just tried netstumbler on the lappy for gigles and wow there is a lot of stuff out there:blink:
On what channel is the wireless ?
