Title: Banter
Post by: Benny on May 28, 2009, 12:10:25 AM
Now, I may be tipsy, and it may be late, and you have no idea how long it's taking me to type this, but;

I don't read the 'banter' section anymore. It's fulll of either birthdays or internet finds. Have we diversified too much or are we pandering?

IMO banter should be the equivalent of pub talk. I am struggling to type this much but you get my drift, I don;t care that it's 'deatth_face_ killer's' birthday. I care about Newcastle going down. I care about the Ashes, I care aobut this poitical expenses ********. Someone else made 23? well done.

Someone who never posts but is registered? Even....err....well'r done.

I don't want to stop the birthdays, I want to encourage pub chat. strange that.....2 nil to the better team :)

hmmm....I talk ballcocks when I'm drunk.

The hangover I have would suggest I was more than a little tipsy. Move along, nothing to see here.

although your drunken rambing is there benny it does raise a good point - really what is up with all the birthdays? why do people post them apart from postfarming?

yes its nice to say happy birthday to someone but the way its done at hte moment is OTT, is there a way we can curb it?

One forum, with an age limit of two weeks? So posts older than two weeks will be automatically deleted.

All happy birthday stuff will go in there.

I agree.

Surely the easiest way to stop people posting birthday's is to remove them from the calendar altogether and not allow people to put them. That may be a 'softer' approach then telling people not to post them?

I'm failing to see the problem that solutions to are being discussed

We've always had to ignore posts, threads and even whole sections that don't rock our individual boats, surely.

indeed we do oldie, the only point that i would raise is that im sure that I miss a lot of things that i would read in the banter section because of the flood of the birthdays in there

I think the heading usually givers it away so it can;t be that hard to self-filter?  I'm with OB here, not sure what the problem is that we're trying to fix.  The banter section is not particularly busy anyway, in the last month it has produced 16 threads with only 6 being birthday related, so we're not talking about a high volume issue.

We have banter, we have seriously, not sure another forum section will help.  Maybe making better use of the banter section would be nicer.

I agree....I was just drunk and couldn't be arsed to read through the birthday influx...

Sorry for starting the snowball...personally I'd delete this entire thread and move along.
