Title: changing spec
Post by: Bellanie on May 29, 2009, 11:07:41 AM
hi guys quick question, what are the rules in raids for changing spec, because i want to go from doing elemental to enhancment for a short time f no 1 has any problems with it, but thought it better to mention it here than just spring it on you at the start of a raid

It is fine so far i know, it is a good thing that you said it so the officers know it.

Assuming we are talking about a main spec switch (as opposed to just switxhing specs temporarily for a fight at the request of officers):  My understanding is that you need to check with officers beforehand as the raid is already very melee heavy and there may not be a raid spot open at enh shaman.  It is up to officers to agree if a spot is open and the switch ok, otherwise a switch might mean giving up your raid spot and then waiting until a spot opens up in the role you now want.  The other aspect to consider is that if it is short term is it viable?  i.e. is the gear drop off going to be too extreme for the raid to carry you?  Have a talk with the officers about it.

That pretty much covers it.

If you want to change your main raiding spec/character (delete as appropriate) this does need to be discussed and agreed apon by the officers and once you do change you cannot change back a week or two later!

You may find that if you swap from one to another (ranged to melee for example) you may not get a slot in the raid as we may be full for that particular class need.

Why not try dual-speccing and use your secondary spec to try out the new spec. No rules for that and you can use that in any non guild runs. However, for official guild runs we do need you as your main, unless asked otherwise.

And for clarity's sake:

Official runs are the runs on thursday, sunday and tuesday. :)

I was thinking about switching my second spec to retri, since it seems that we could use it much more than another tank (and i would really like to try it out :D ), and even if we still need me in prot, i've got the gear and it will take just a few minutes to change in back. So my question is: shall i ask an officer if i'm needed in those 2 specs, or can i change my off-spec without further concern?

I've no problem with that, lets see if anyone else objects. If not, go for it :)
