I have finally got around to adding my overclocked XP1700 machine to the farm   I have downclocked it a little to make sure hea tis not an issue but it should still much quite a few points each week

I am waiting for a VRM for the Dual PIII 550Mhz server and also the OS.  I decided to run Fedora as suggested by Stryker - I'll keep you posted on my Linux F@H exploits!

I have a further and as yet unbuilt a P4 2.0Ghz server and a PIII 1.0Ghz server which will also be added in due course once I know Fedora a little better.   I also have two new XP2600/2800 machines bought for our business which will be up and running on 1st June when we move into our new premises.

All machines run the Version 4 of the Console client with -forcesse flags added to enable SSE.

Mwahahahahahahaha!!!!

I've just borged 12 high powered PC's and will have another 10 or so borged in the next few weeks. All running as a service, so even it the computer is logged off they continue to fold :)

Oh, my laptop is no longer running the client, but the above machines will more than make up for that :)

1 2.2Ghz XP2500+ 512Mb, home PC.
1 quad xeon 2Gb server, at work (ssssh)
BFC, I going to take a wild stab in the dark here, but I reckon your quad xeon server is not getting any WUs through for you.  Your folding rate is currently about 340 points per week and you show as 3 CPUs, but by my math that would exclude the server.  The quad xeon should be able to knock out huge points per week, more than your current weekly score just on its own.  So I'd check the set up for your name and our team number, then check to see if it is blocked by a corporate firewall, because we could do with the extra points :D

I am the bearer of good news.

I will be getting a 3.0GHz PentiumIV (with HyperThreading) in about a month's time and it will run two lots of F@H 24/7 when it arrives.

I am also waiting for a free slot in BFC's diary so that I can take delivery of an old server case to fill up with CPUs and some RAM to run the Linux CD boot version of the F@H client.

I have also just acqured my father's old PC (Athlon 2000) which I will also be running the Linux F@H client on when I get a spare HDD to throw in there.

Most of the above hardware should start folding in about 4-5 weeks time.  Woot, a successful hardware day already and it's not even 8.00am yet :D

LOL - no Sheepster, far from it...

This is the work PC I mentioned before in this thread (http://forum.deadmen.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4734). I was just updating this equipment thread with its details. It was four years since they last bought me an upgrade, and I was in line for the next box coming in to the department.  The fact it was this highly specced, and my boss didn't claim it, was a pleasant surprise :)

The XP2500 box is my home PC.  About a year old now, and does exactly what I need it to well enough.

Here's an update on the F@H Hardware inventory for my borged army.  Unfortunately a number of these machines are offline at the moment due to BT not providing a broadband connection when they promised to for my new business premises.  Hopefully they'll start to come on stream again during this coming week, but expect my ppw total to drop heavily (as it already has done) and remain low until then.

I have a further and as yet unbuilt a P4 2.0Ghz server which will also be added in due course once I have the time to put the various hardware bits together.

All machines run the Version 4 of the Console client with -forcesse flags added to enable SSE where available.

Not that I want to worry you, but how are you borging them?  The reason I ask is that no points are showing up in the team, other than a few points that are probably being produced by a single PC during the week.  Do they have the right team number and username?  You're not using the old corrupted service instal are you?  Download the new one if you are as the old one is throwing its points at the general total, not to the team :(

Do check, because I know that previously you had mentioned you had borged some and the points never showed - I think that was when the service install was corrupting and so when you installed F@H you never got the points!  just wanted to make sure your hard work was not wasted!

Tyan Trinity 400.

I do have a Plan B though.  My daughters PC is going to be upgraded from P3 1GHz (Slot1) to a P4 2.53GHz. The Trinity Motherboard can take a Slot1 processor so I'll just drop it in there once I upgrade hers. Won't be as much of an upgrade as I'll be going from a 833MHz/133FSB to a 1GHz/100FSB but it is a step in the right direction.

I bought the Tualatin core for the server and it has never been run other than trying to get it working in the Tyan board this weekend. If you wnat it I'll send it to you and if you can get it working then make me an offer (£10/£20 pound) as I paid £90 for it and would like to try to recoup some of that but as I say I cannot guarantee it works because I haven't been able to prove it.

AMD 1900+ with 384MB RAM - 24/7
A64 3200+ 1GB RAM - Nearly 24/7
Celeron 2.8Ghz with 512MB RAM (Laptop) - Periodically

RIP to my old 1900+ system.  It passed away peacefully a few days ago when I tried to restart it.  A post mortum could not acertain why it died, there is no obvious explanation.

So sadly I'm down to pretty much just one system running F@H now :(

I had to remove fah from one computer here at the office, plus my own primary computer broke down - so not much folding from me the last weeks. I will put fah on the laptop tomorrow, and hopefully my primary will be up and running tonight - so from tomorrow my setup will be like this:

Duron 900 / 512 MB - folding from 8-16 every day
Athlon 3000+ / 1GB - folding almost 24/7
PIII 700 / 128MB laptop - folding 8-16 every day

Hopefully mono_t will be joining us with an Athlon 2800+ / 1GB in a short time.

Install a second copy of the client in a different folder and configure it to run as a different "Machine ID" ie if the first one is running as machine ID1 make the second one machine ID 2 when you configure it. The log files will report what machine ID it is running under.

Additionaly, if the box is running Windows XP and Hyperthreading is enabled, you could have four instances of the client running.  Two per physical CPU.

Go to Task Manager > Performance tab.  If you see four graphs in the CPU Usage History you can run four clients.

No can do Doggers, it's a computer from work, the boss doesn't want me to mess with to much stuff on the computer. I got F@H aproved because I explained it to him what it's all about, otherwise it's: If it still works, DON'T mess with it.

BB, which downloadversion of F@H do I need (LINK) (http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/download.html). I've installed the version 5.03 now. Do I need another version?
Also, any more tips on how to make the 2 ID's? I'm now @ work so I'm a bit busy.

Thanks, Pete

Post by: Cadaver on January 04, 2006, 01:42:48 PM
I wouldn't put 5.03 on as it's the graphical client and has processor overhead (i.e. slower folding) associated in showing the pretty pictures.  I use 5.02 "No-nonsense" text-only console version.
Title: Equipment Inventory
Post by: Whitey on January 04, 2006, 06:20:26 PM
:withstupid:

Use the console version and choose the option to run as a service during installation.

Create four directories (I use FAH1 - FAH4) and put a copy of the console version into each directory and rename it (optional but it helps track what process is doing what).  Then from the cmd prompt enter the name of the program followed by -configonly.

If I get some time this week I'll try and go through an install and grab some screen shots.

There should be a thread where Stryker mentioned having his PS3 on Folding.

Saw the table below and wondered what you guys are running to get the points you do?

I have two PC's each with 4850 graphics and perhaps another couple of older PC's that just do CPU folding.

I have 12 machines at various places which are running the standard client (3 at home, 5 at offices and a few on rellie's machines).

The big points come from the two machines which are GPU folding (primary Home and my primary office machine)... one is a GTX8800 and one a lowly Radeon HD2400.

GPU folding on the 2 machines alone probably account for over 80% of the total.
