They (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/L4D2boycott) say it better than me ...
QuoteWE RECOGNIZE:
-Valve is a company with financial needs and cannot be expected to survive without the release of new games.
-Judgment cannot be passed on the quality of Left 4 Dead 2 until its release.
-Left 4 Dead was, and is, a quality game which deserves the praise of the entire gaming community.
WE ARE COMMITTED:
-To holding Valve to its promise of free, continual updates to Left 4 Dead in order to build and sustain the community.
-To keeping the Left 4 Dead community together in order to improve the quality of online gaming.
-To supporting the model of continual updates Valve has set forth with its staple products like Team Fortress 2.
WE BELIEVE:
-The release of Left 4 Dead 2 as a stand-alone sequel will split the communities and decrease the quality of multiplayer gaming.
-The announced content of Left 4 Dead 2 does not warrant a stand-alone, full-priced sequel and should instead become updates (free or otherwise) for Left 4 Dead.
-Left 4 Dead has not yet received the support and content which Valve has repeatedly stated will be delivered.
-The release of Left 4 Dead 2 will make Left 4 Dead an obsolete purchase and inferior piece of software after only one year since release.
WE REQUEST:
-That Valve honor its commitment to release ongoing periodic content for Left 4 Dead.
-That Left 4 Dead 2 not be released as a stand-alone, full-priced sequel but as either a free update to Left 4 Dead or an expansion with full compatibility with basic Left 4 Dead owners.
-That Left 4 Dead owners be given discounts for Left 4 Dead 2, should it be released as premium content.

im doing my bit...are you?
Ooooh where do I sign up
Hmm 20,000 non-buyers compared to a probable 2.5 million sales?
Small-fry.
And the chances are that most of those would buy it after a while anyway.
Also the new version doesn't look as pretty as the existing one.
I think, well, resistance is futile. That said, going for L4D2 with the unfinished state of the original, e.g. not having a well-functioning lobby (and considering that this should be an easy job for valve), makes me very, very annoyed.
Well if we don't support and all agree not to buy it then we'll be making our own (very tiny) stand.
If people support L4D2 by buying it straight away it'll reward them for ditching support of a game quickly. I don't think anyone wants that. If you look at the steam top sellers list TF2 and Orange box are constantly in there and that is nearly 2 years old but being constantly being updated, new game modes, weapons, maps etc.
They promised the same for L4D, I'm just a bit disappointed that this will split the multiplayer scene, kill develpoment of the first game and make people less likely to invest in valve games on release.
I like L4D and I would like to see it grow and develop like the other games have.
I think the look is distinctive and the game-play/feel is good. Yes it has a few problems but they could be resolved as part of an ongoing support process.
L4D2 just looks too cartoony and seems like a back-ward step to me. Yes hitting zombies with a frying pan does appeal, but that could be added to L4D easily enough.
Valve did a new game play mode in a DLC, why not add this secret new mode in another DLC, plus the new maps and weapons?
I won't buy L4D2 until I have to.
L4D2 is a nonsense and serves one purpose as far as I can see £££££££ or in Valves case $$$$$$$$. I'll not buy it even if they drop support for L4D com. In fact I'm inclined to dump valve and Steam completely.
I can see all of your viewpoints but this is where i stand.
The orange Box was and always was meant to draw in more people to the steam franchise. A gimmick as it were as it was cheap about the same price as LFD.
I understand that some of our members do feel TF2 has a cartoonie feel i do agree. This was valve's intention and personallyy i love it. The meet the spy videos etc are funny and the way updates have been rolled out is fantastic.
My only cause for concern is that pc zone for instance in their review gave the game a very high intial review. This month it was given the where does it currently stand perspective. The publication of this article unfortunately was published before e3 and the release of info regardin LFD2.
Therefore its a shame that they were not able to re think this review.
In all they reviewed LFD initally and said it wasa great game and the high score was given due to the proposed rollout of further content.
Basically, this further content was stalled until march and a couple of reviewers were appalled at how it was rolled out.
I like LFD but is the gameplay we are seeing for LFD2 the finished product if it is it feels like a low quality mod and not the LFD we all enjoy everynight on meatlocker.
I hope they keep up with updates but i am pretty skeptical. This is the successor it looks like anyway :(
I'm in!!
Now where do I sign up for the Modern War 2 boycott....

I feel exactly the same way about dMw membership charges. All it got me was abuse and attitude.
Go figure...
:roflmao:
I don't have a problem with L4D2 if I deem the new content to be worth the asking price and frankly I trust Valve on this one - quality wise, they haven't let me down yet.
Quote from: Tutonic;279153Hmm. Any need for that?
Yes, or I wouldn't have mentioned it. Thanks for the constructive input.
I was referring about your decision to try and swerve this post off-topic, which is both childish and pointless.
Go and moan elsewhere - this forum is for Left 4 Dead, thanks.

sweet :)
now now children play nice
anyway im on xbox for this and dont agree at all if they did l4d2 as downloads we wouldnt get any of it. you know all those nice big updates for tf2 youve been getting like the sammich etc? we dont get any of those so a new game is a way of guarenteeing that we do actually get something. dont really care if it looks like the first one or whatever they probably havent even announced everything thats gonna be in it
o and theres a new multiplayer mode being created for this one and i do believe released for the original

Guess who's fault that is? Valve had to move heaven and earth just to get Microsoft to let them put free updates out over Xbox Live.
If MS had their way, you would be paying for stuff that PC players got for free...

yeah but paying for it is better than not having it at all and it would be the same with l4d2 if they did that in downloads

I loved Modern Warfare 1 single player. They never said they were going to provide regular free community updates like Valve did with L4D, and importantly the original game was worth the full price, something which i'd argue wasn't true with L4D. A lot of people paid that cash on the promise of free updates and Valve's past performance with TF2. As such, I wouldn't have said boycotting MW2 is really valid. Even if dMw stick with MW1 because 2 doesn't really add anything i'll still be buying MW2 just for the single player campaign.
what's the idea behind the Modern War 2 boycott ?????
Quote from: Armitage;279229what's the idea behind the Modern War 2 boycott ?????
Just Joking around matey! although I do hope it doesn't split the gamers by yet another dimension. :)
I've no issue at all with Valve making a major upgrade and charging for it. I play WOW and was happy to buy BC and WothLK. I'm a big Total War fan and also had no issue with the various paid for expansions they brought out.
What bugs me is the way they will potentially split the community. Some could move over to L4D2 and some could stay with L4D. Where would the dMw go. Would we upgrade, not upgrade? That's my main issue. If Valve said 'Look the updates we want to make are just too big for an expansion. L4D2 simply would never be compatible with L4D. Technically they had to be new games as they have different engines' I would understand.
I just don't get why they are breaking the community and worry that they will drop L4D updates as Carrot suggests. With TF2 they stuck with one game, why not L4D. Guess I'm just suspicious that this was an accounting decision rather than a developer decision.
plz tell me how not buying l4d 2 will encourage valve too provide free updates for l4d? That doesnt make any sense to me.
Where in your line of thought does Nerd rage boycott= free updates??????

The boycott doesn't mean there will be a rash of new updates. What it means is the community would be less split (less people with L4D2 so more reason to play the original). The sales will also be worse, a clear sign that the community are unhappy with the lack of support.
It's not a magic fix, and it's the problem with a company like valve (continuous support) making games for consoles (no support).
Console philosophy is milk the customer dry (Ã,£40-50 initial price tag, and then any updates are often charged). PC philosophy is much cheaper games (most games pre-order for Ã,£20-25 ie Ã,£19.95 for L4D, updates and mods come routinely, most games receive multiple patches over their lifetime and many free mods out there ie NeoTokyo)
If they get the message that people are willing to hold off for a while to see what support is like before buying them we'll see several big early updates to L4D2 and the original soon after launch to try and restore confidence to the PC market who aren't willing to buy a game with the promise of updates and then have them ignore it for nearly a year adding no new levels but survivor (rather shocking compared to say a new campaign)
Loads of new weapons and enemies

Flamming shotgun shells and grenade launchers are going a bit too silly for my liking.
of course I without any real judgement untill it's finished, but i'm nowhere near as excited about this as I was about L4D
It does seem a bit too comical. Frying pans? Really??!
Then again, the Rock Paper Shotgun boys gave it a massive thumbs up when they play-tested it at Valve HQ - and they're usually spot on in my opinion.
Quote from: Tutonic;284281Frying pans? Really??!
And cricket bats apparently.
I'll only accept that if there's an Andrew Flintoff model to go with them...
Allthough i was pretty sceptical about the game at first, I must say the swamp level looks pretty damn interesting as do the new weapons.
Not digging the grenade launcher at all though and the voice acting on the female player could do with some improvement imo.
So all in all pretty interested in seeing how this game will turn out.

First off, the players in that preview can't play
2nd, It all looks great and exciting
3rd, its not good enough for a stand alone, I won't pay 40-50 euros for it, would rather see it as an expension pack (which, as far as I've seen/heard, is what those new features look like)
4th, its way to fast to come up with a stand alone game, while L4D on its own could use a lot more of these features.
So in final, this reeks like pocket filling, rather than bussiness survival :(
Looks like a fun "upgrade" but certainly not worthy of the price of a full game.
Well this is has some legs but I think Australia is winning by banning the game!

Yep, Yahtzee's a legend.
Check out his video reviews if you've not already seen them. Hilariously scathing.
