Title: Upgrade
Post by: DarkAngel on June 12, 2009, 05:09:03 PM
After downgrading to a very low spec laptop a year ago, i have decided to sell it and replace it for a desktop.... but i need your help and guidance!

Budget: £300-350 (recovered from selling laptop)

Require: Motherboard, Graphics Card, Processor, Memory (maybe) and a descent sized screen.

Any help is very useful as im not sure which way to go

The decent sized screen will probably take the vast majority of that budget up.

Don't really trust that manufacturer any more, rather stick with lg or Samsung :)

I had an LG as my first TFT and was always very impressed with it.

Aye, lg is a great manufacture although the current Samsung 220-240 range is currently awesome. But this upgrade is not in any rush so maybe lg will bring out some new good models.

I've decided to sell my current bedroom tv which gives me more for the upgrade. I'm going for the Samsung T220HD which overall gives me a awesome screen with the television built in.

I will be able to get the Samsung T220HD for £162 which i think is a great price.

Processor Intel E5200 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-E5200-Pentium-Dual-Core-Processor/dp/B001ENB1FA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1244826271&sr=8-1) £54
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP43 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-GA-EP43-DS3-Motherboard-Definition-8-channel/dp/B001A5WOXA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1244826588&sr=8-1) £63.95

Just need assistance in picking out a descent graphics card and possibly some memory. I have £150 in the budget left :)

Looking at 4870 & 4890 Graphic Card's atm although i really dont know whats the best to get ^^

good the 4870 and so have many people on here, it's a great card, Runs everything fine, only Crysis on full wack (as does most cards) does it show it's limitations, cod4 / 5 is fine, might be worth seeing the spec needed for Modern warfare 2 to make it future proof :g:

I don't know about the 4890 though, is there much difference spec wise?

Currently looking at the 4890 at Ã,£140 link (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-124-XF&tool=3)

It seems future proof and able to play mw2 very well :)
