Title: Empire's 100 Greatest Games Of All Time
Post by: delanvital on June 19, 2009, 01:51:20 PM
Linky (http://www.empireonline.com/100greatestgames/)

I have a feeling some would say #3 should swap with #1

Personally, I'd like to see Civilization higher...

Damn, so many games, so little time... glad to see Elite in there!

I thought Vice City should have taken the GTA III spot. I like FF VII's position, it is well earnt. As for WoW being swapped from 3rd to 1st, I actually agree even though I don't play it.
It's probably the game with the largest appeal in history. Atleast I assume it has to have taken far more money than any other game.

It's reminded me of so many great games I need to play again. When I set my laptop (9" netbook thing) up properly with Linux I'll get emulators for all those classics. I'll also have to put Grim Fandango on...it's amazing, if anyone hasn't played it, do it right now, you won't regret it, story, music and art work are stunning, especially when you consider it's age.

That was a great walk through some fantastic memories...

Deus Ex I enjoyed that game so much..

T-Bag - I have already started doing just that with my ubuntu laptop doing arcade games atm, but will add amiga, nintendo etc.

Now, don't kill me but I have a copy of Grim Fandango on my shelf which I have never installed.

IMO Deus Ex should be further up the list. It's an absolutely fantastic game with an awesome plot that blended FPS and RPG elements together really well. I still get it out and play it occasionally, having played it at least once a year since it came out, and 3 times in striaght succession when it was first released.

Sad that "Cannon Fodder" isn't in there, a lot more deserving than some.

Yeah I loved playing Elite.

One thing though - does it ever finish? I an' remember what happened at the end or do you just keep on going ad infinitem?

Civilisation too - what a game. Wow that brought back some memories. Makes me really nostalgic and almost pine for those days again where games were so graphically unadvanced.

You should be Grim Fandango on. I've had it since it was first released and play it every now and again. I've got free time right up till October so it's going on again this week. It's worth it for the soundtrack alone.

As for cannon fodder. yes VERY deserving of a mention. More so than a few of the lesser console games.

Super Midget Plumber is better that Deus Ex and WOW?? :lmfao:

They should stick to rating movies and not get involved in subjects they clearly know bugger all about.

You have to think of the games that blew you away when you saw them aswell as completely immersing you and making you stay up all night... Oh those were the days.

Many games missing, but many games missed

I loved Res. Evil first time round, Tekken wow'd me couldn't believe I was playing it at home.
Mario Kart, SF2, Sensible Soccer the number of nights filled with a group of pals on those bad boys..

Hunter and Thunderhawk missing for me.

I which case Syndicate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syndicate_%28computer_game_series%29) was the greatest game ever invented, ever! You got to set people on fire with a flame thrower and watch them run about as they burned up. End of argument

I tried Silent Service II but was too young at the time to make any of it. I should have it stashed away somewhere :)

I remember that. It had two hundred and fifty six colours  and was at the cutting edge of computer game development. That's more than anyone could need.

I spent frighteningly long periods of time shadowing the enemy boats and sneaking about trying to shake off the enemy destroyers. But when I sank my first and only Super battleship I thought I'd won the lottery :D

I'm scared to think at the amount of life I've lost to sub sims over the years
