Title: Login Problem
Post by: TeaLeaf on June 23, 2009, 08:35:08 PM
Seriously annoying problem kicked off for me today, so I wondered if anyone had come across this before and come up with a solution.

You login to WoW.
Select your character and load.
You appear to load fine, but shortly (up to a minute) after you have loaded you notice that other toons stop moving, no spells will cast, no reaction to any buttons, no reaction to ESC>Logout and no reaction to ESC>Exit Game.
Messages I type in say gchat do not show up on my screen but apparently appear in game to others.
The game will then either DC me ("you have been disconnected" message) or sometimes just hang in game and need to be Alt-F4 shut down.
Sometimes a zone is not listed under the selected character name & the load stops at the end of the loading bar.

Relogging is not working.
I have tried disabling all addons but this makes no difference.
I do not appear to be DC'd in the same way on all toons all the time.  For example I am now on my priest and been able to submit a ticket.  However it has earlier DC'd me from the priest.

It is almost like the Blizz server senses I am sending or requesting too much data from the Realm servers and therefore locks me up in a loop and DC's me.

During this problem I can browse anywhere else I want to with zero problems and have remained on TS the entire evening, so clearly this is a Wow-related problem.

Anyone got any suggestions (other than nuke the Blizz HQ!).

TL.

This morning Blizzard have noted on the login page some 'latency issues which might cause you to disconnect' which sounds pretty much exactly like what I was suffering.  They are apparently looking into it, but I'll not be holding my breath.

Hahaha, and I log in this morning to find myself in Elwynn Forest instead of outside the Ulduar raid instance!

/sigh

I get something similar to what you are describing, if I move withing seconds of logging on it all stops, hangs & eventually I have to turn it off via other methods (good old alt-ctrl-del) & restart it.  I find it is especially bad when I log into Dalaran on any of them especially at busy times on the server.

Like you I tried everything I could to resolve it & I have a brand new computer so I know it is not an issue there.  Glad to hear they are at least saying it is at their end.

Wonder where I will end up when I log on!!

I'm guessing they've moved people that have experienced this problem from high load areas to low.

Our entire guild on Bloodhoof all got d/ced at the same time last night, which was roughly the same time as you reported issues, maybe a bit after. Some couldn't log back in at all, some could log in but not connect to the realm, and some repeatedly connected tot he relam and logged into the game but wheee unable to chat or interact with anything until we got the 'You have been disconnected' message.

Methinks Blizz's European server farm was having some major issues last night. I've heard reports of it from a ton of realms.

@Ame
Cartographer is a massive Dalaran lag-contributor.  Logging in with Cartographer turned off turned Dalaran from massive lag on login to completely smooth for me.  If you have it installed try disabling it and then logging in.

Out of interest, is that the original Cartographer or the more google maps alike Cartograher 3? Cos i've got the original and it's fine on my machine, but it may be diff for diff people.

Current incarnation of the addon, not an old one.

Yeah, but IIRC Cartographer got forked into Cartographer and Cartographer 3, and both are currently in active development? I could be wrong.

I would guess it is the current Cartographer 3 then as that is the current one.  Older versions will almost certainly cause issues though as several things have changed over time witht he calls, coding etc.

Tried it all, no addons, checked them one by one a week back, slow, dull & nothing doing.  I have limited addons I use now due to lagging before on my old pc but as I said this one is new, loads of ram, good net connection (especially since my youngest moved out of home!!) etc etc...sigh

Although reading on the forums & also wow insider I do know I am not alone in this problem not that it makes me feel any better. :ranting2:
