OK, I'm posting this here (in L4D forum) because I play almost every night...Some of you know I was away for a week...so, when I came back, logged into Steam...7 minutes....OK, I was away for a while, Steam updating?...not so...every time I log in it takes 5-7 minutes to kickstart, L4D crashed a few times, generally a pain in t'arse...anyone got similar?
Had similar recently and cured it by renaming the clentRegistry.blob file in the Steam folder forcing a new one to be created.
I hadn't played L4D for ages but had been on steam regularly. My steam client updated twice this week requiring a restart. I expect something has gone tits up. Do the old .blob thing as OB says. Failing that opt into a beta and see if the new version fixes things.
:withstupid:
You could try logging in with another account if you have one (or you could make one) just to see if the problem is user related or PC related.

Just trying that now, thanks OB

Tried that Jabby, already have 2 accounts, same result for both...thanks anyway, just doing the blobby thing, will post later...
Happy to report all is well....deleted clientregistry.blob.....Steam starts in 14 secs, L4D takes 1 min. 12 secs to kick in....Thanks ladies
Good 'ol Bob - er Blob :D
Shouldn't that have worked, there's another thing you could have done.
Sometimes Steamgames need to be handled as a computer and you have to clear the files a bit by doing a defragmentation on games.
Right click on the game and select properties, then local files and select; Defragment cache files.
