Any takers yet?
Hoping to pick this up next week, but we should start as we mean to go on....all start with the same club, lower league and see where we get to.
I do the same challenge every year.
Barnet!
No Money, No decent players, Rubbish Staff and no prospects in the Youth.
Get them to the Premiership!
I'm hoping for a deal from SI, seeing as they are our clubs sponsors, even a couple of quid off in the club shop would be nice. Being one of the club's media team must give me a shout of blagging a freebie:g:

Well, if you beat the £25 off amazon, give us a shout.....I've not ordered yet.
In terms of teams, how about Lewes, currently residing last in the Blue Sq Prem.
I dunno whether I'm gonna bother this year, I got the demo & i feel pretty underwhelmed by it - I'll hang on for a while at the very least.
I've been in discussion with the club's commercial department to see what I can do.
I'll be buying it at the end of the month - but I like wheeling and dealing which means I need money! In fm2008 I set myself the target of becoming the best manager in the UK ever (ie beating SAF) and did this with Newcastle, I'm currently in the year 2017 and will beat his score at the end of the season all going well.
I'm interested to see how the 3D match engine works and I'm hoping the media part of the game has been improved - in the past it was just an annoyance and I ended up never commenting to the media in the end as it would end up annoying my team members.
Looking forward to peoples opinions on it compared to 2008.
I didnt invest enough time on 2008 to get enough out of it.
That first season is so furstrating, 2008 seeemed to take ages for the team to adjust to your training and management style.
Looking forward to 2009 though :)
Apparently, our club shop is knocking this out for £20 a time. I'll see about nabbing a copy, but they may not last long as we're at home today and Tuesday.

Are both fans expected to attend then?
:getmecoat:
So sorry, we only got 3,366 today. I've got a copy held back, shall I get another?
Ok I have started my career - I did a random club selection until I found an English club.
First English club I was allocated was Macclesfield Town.
Played first couple of matches on the Assitant Managers reccomendation and lost 2 friendlies.
I am now affiliated with Man Untied and have a couple of there starlets.
I have set-up all my training schedule's and a 4-4-1-1 formation.
Drew 1-1 with Spurs Res.
Team played well too :)
I let fate take its course and am now manager of Grays. Picking up a pair of U-20 long term loan strikers from Villa was a good move, paying 0% of their wages.
With L4D, my passion rekindled for Cod4 and Fallout3, farcry2 still in its wrapper since the lan, I haven't bothered buying fm2009 - should I? Is it that much better than 2009?
This is the first time I've not bothered buying fm on its release - what have I done....
Well, I have been struggling like mad in my first season with relegation candidates Macclesfield Town.
With this version I think it takes a lot longer for your team to gel and things like press conferences and team talks hold alot more weight.
On the other hand the in game tactics seem to be more responsive and subs can make a real impact.
So, I went 17 games without a win and was feeling the pressure my team just wasn't responding or pulling together I had the fans on my back and the board feeling I should be doing better. Arrrgghhh
I was conceding far too many goals and out of my 4 loan players only one (Sam Hewson) was doing the business.
Time for action I picked up some 3 month loan players from Arsenal and Liverpool and with a great stroke of luck my scout returned from france with a list of freebies. I signed 8 players including a brand new back 4.
Changed my formation to 4-4-2 defensive with direct passing down the flanks my middle 4 are entirely loaned players.
The Silkmen are marching on won 6 out of an undefeated 10 games and moved out of the relegation zone.
I have now installed this on my laptop, so I could play it in hospital and now lying in bed. Kettering are very fragile, so I'm going looking to add some quality at bargain basement prices. Got a muppet up front who can be stunning but them disappears for a spell, very Jekyll and Hyde. Got a great 18 year old Polish keeper from a Premiership club, shame I can't afford him.
Well well well...
5 games from the end of the season all my short term players have left and only one Long term is fit
It was going to be hard work to survive but I knew that if I can get through the first season and survive I could really start to build.
Believe it or not I managed to survive on 2 draws a win and 2 loses due to other results going my way.
So now the game is a foot.
I want to get a football playing side rather than getting one that grinds out results but that is going to be very very hard and I will need approx 9 new players LOL
lets hope John Rooney can do the business :)
I've just bought FM2009 so I have a free copy of FM2008 here for anyone fancy putting their foot into the addictive world of football management?
Let me know.
Can't get the game to work - problem with the game connecting to the server, though that isn't the problem - seems theres a 40 page ongoing thread full of annoyed people who can't get the think to work *sigh* :ranting2:
Is it FM2009 or FM Live?

Don't ask me how we did it but I managed to get Macclesfield Town to League 1 in my second season in charge.
My Open attacking football looks to have paid off but not without a sturdy defense and a keeper who didn't concede in 340 minutes of football.
I got the team to 7th and beat Shewsbury and then Luton in the final :)
The prospect of L1 is very scary as I didn't want to bring anyone in this season as the squad as finally gelling hmmmm.
Here are some screenshots :)

I walked out on Kettering and restarted with Weymouth.
They're pants in midfield and defence, but Beavon is a goal machine.
Well I have stripped my Reserves down drastically on less then 13 players released my wage bill is now
6k under budget
I have brought in 3 new players - DC - AML - DMC to replace the ones that were stolen from me on free transfers.
I tried to loan the same players from last season but they are not interested
I am happy with my first 11 selection which is good so I have been trying out some new blood in the pre-season only a couple of players are looking anything like.
I will take control of the reserves this season in order to eek out the dead wood.
Had a good friendly at Old Trafford losing 3 - 2 due to some nice clinical finishing.
Bring on League One
Hi guys, was just wondering if anyone else dabbles in a bit of FM2009?, just be nice to know so we could exchange tips/tactics etc :g:
I've played it a bit, never really got into the 09 version, played all of em just about from CM2 I think, theres a fair few do play, I think Dewey's probably the man to look for.
I knew there was a thread somewhere - http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=25324&highlight=football
**THREADS MERGED**
Dewey! Get in here!
I play a fair bit, under tutorlidge from the above mentioned. I am now forging a career as the successful Tottenham manager. 2nd in the prem last year having won the European Cup for the record 4th year in a row.
Some blinding transfer advice from Dewey got me Veloso as a DM, but some of my own starlets?
Sinima Pongolle (FC) took half a season to get going, but he's on fire now, averaging about 7.5.
Ignancio Camacho (DM) great young player and a bargain to boot, tailing a little now, but still a blinder.
Pavel Pogrbynak (FC - one of Deweys) came in, scored a hat-trick and then broke his leg so I bought
Tiago Luis who is simply superb.
Caceres, Schwaab, Zapata and Capevilla,
Modric, Matias Fernandez (v.good AML - bargain), Huddlestone/Veloso/Camacho, Lennon / Sergey Krivets
Pagrebynak/Luis or Pavelychenko/Pongolle

I play this game alot but not like Benny with his cash and transfer hoo ha.
I also start with lower league teams and try to build from scratch its hard and very frustrating but I the rewards can be sweet.
Currently on my 10th season with Macclesfield fighting relegation in the Championship.
Someone call? :D Step into my office...
I'm still playing FM - currently in my 5th year with Juventus.
Hats of to Lower League Managers but half the fun for me is wheeling and dealing - hence I prefer clubs that have a bit of cash to spend and preferably are sleeping giants hence i've managed Juventus, Villareal, Newcastle, Hull City (did I say sleeping giant? lol) etc.
My current challenge with Juventus is interesting, theres lots of money but basically the whole Juventus team needs replacing its really ageing (pavel nedved anyone?) and that goes for the staff who basically - suck!
This then brings its own problems, you've got the board harranging you to win everything due to your reputation (well Juventus are the most successful club in Italy) and the funds they are outlaying.
You can only bring in so many new players a season otherwise they don't gel and performance nose dives.
Like the EPL you have 3 dominant teams already - Inter, AC Milan and Roma to contend with - plus my personal aim is to beat Alex Fergusons trophy haul so it could take some time  To give you an idea of how good you have to be - Inter went a whole season letting in a paltry 10 or so goals! They now seem on the waine but AC and Roma have stepped up and really push you all the way - if you aren't getting over 90 pts in a season you aren't going to win Serie A.
This is my 5th year and I've still not won the Champions league (finalist loser for last 2 years!) - I've just lost to Real Madrid in the semi finals - 1-0 away - so I've got some work to do if I'm going to win at the Stadio Olimpico.
Currently playing with a 4-2-3-1 formation of my own design - though based upon Tactical Theorems and frameworks - available from Si games forum. I'll pass on this heavyweight tome of strategic footballing fare if your interested - its about 50 pages - but an excellent read!
My win ratio is currently 75% after about 250 games. I've won the Serie A - twice (and should win it again this year), Italian cup three times, CL - finalist twice and now I've become the national manager of Italy.
Which team are you playing mate and what formation etc?
I have been through the massive right ups in the past and a ended up with an unbeatable Newcastle team, I brought 90% youth through whilst keeping 150m in the bank.
One the FA CUP, League Cup, Champs and Prem in one season.
It was all very unrealistic for me thats when I decided to go it alone with the mighty Barnet getting them to the prem with a future was a great pleasure.
Although..... During my Newcastle reign I ended up quitting because the board stepped in and bought Buffon for 52m!! so not that unrealistic really LOL.
Where most people enjoy dealing with the big names, I love tinkering with the tactics, training and staff.
I love the scouting when you find a couple of absolute gems who turn your season around.
Its a great game :)

Yeah - I've done that too - for some reason Obafei Martins was amazing in 2007 and 2008! Won everything.
However I also enjoy tinkering with staff, tactics and training schedules and making up my own - etc - I tend to buy younger up and coming stars on the whole.
Agreed its a great game - very immersive :)
Thats the beauty of FM2009 you can play it however you like, career mode, national teams, try out some random club in Brazil etc.

One thing I have noticed that does my head in a bit.
If you spend 10 years with a lower league team on the journey of improvement you are deemed non ambitious!
Surely we are more ambitious than most.
Im Playing with Grimsby town at the moment (my home team), started a new game recently due to me being in my 5th season with them and constantly finishing mid table, i then went to wigan and got sacked after 4 months due to the clubs finances, which wasnt even my fault.
Im strggling to sign players at the minute (really need a striker that can shoot porperly) but my wage budget is poooop.
Any lower league player tips would be welcome guys, i really wanna get Grimsby out of League two, but its seems impossible
Formation is 4 3 3 due to lack of MC's
Play attacking, Creative freedom much, width narrow, counter attack and through the middle
If it were me, having read Deweys heavy weight tomes, I'd wind down the creative freedom and get the team 'doing a job'.
Tight structured play. Watch the matches and see if your guys are struggling to find someone to pass to. If they are work the formation to give more options.
Started a new challenge
MIDDLESBORO!!!
10m!!!!!!! I'M RICH
first job : Clear out the staff
Buy Tiago Luis. He is a goal machine. And Brazilian :)
Another Brazilian on Teeside!
woohooo I won the CL (after my 3rd final!) - beating FC Bayern 2-0 :)
Did the treble as I won the Italian cup and Serie A.
Haven't started next season yet - but I'll need a new striker as understudy to Wagner Love whose been amazing serverant of the club for the past 5 years.
Well I have started with Boro.
Sacked all the staff and re-employed
Got Ray Clemance as Assistant Manager.
Signed - Valencia from Wigan for 10m and Tiago Luis for 2m (thanks Benny)
Sold - Pogatez - Because he moaned at me taking his captains armband and giving it to Valencia.
Got 6.5m
Loaned - Insua for the season 100% wages
Just about to sign a Brazilian Coach because Tiago feels lonely.
Pre-Season was all good apart from a shock loss to Watford!!
I think I am going to struggle to win the fans over with my Wide - High - attacking this season.
I thumped Darlington 4 - 1 and they weren't happy with the manner which we won it!!
I'll show them!
Hi y'all , just managed to obtain FM 2009  wasn't out when I left for mexico so I need a good go!
Not so impressed with the 3d buisness and it slows my pc in window mode... but its a good start and I'm sure it will get alot better. New media press confrences seem alright... kolo toure likes my style
Loaded up as arsenal, and found 2 gems already.
Mamadou Sakho - 19 years or so old centre back. French, tall, strong and becomes the best in the game I think, only costs about 9 million at the start if you can nab him. Seriously good player.
and for his englishmen partner! Mark Beevers ! 18-19 years old aswell. Cost me 1.7 million .... absolute Bargain.... hes 6 ft 3.... complete player no weaknesses... next rio ferdinand... BUY HIM!
there you go, centre backs sorted (after they've developed :O) Im abit obcessed with youth... damn wenger's rubbed off on me
Welcome back fella......head on over to the FM2009 compo thread and get stuck in!
For those of you that like this sorta thing - FM2010 demo (http://www.footballmanager.com/index.php?p=demo)
I gotta say from what little I've played so far I quite like it, the new layouts a bit random for me, but it plays nice, runs well & after playing cm10 aswell you can clearly see which dev team has the years of experience behind them.
Any of you guys recieved your information for the CM10 download yet?
Already got the demo and will definitely be buying it - worthwhile for the crowds in the stadium - really adds to the atmosphere - espcially when you score and they go mental lol I also like how the number of fans in the stadium is reflected graphically - so your stadium isn't always full.
Ok I know its just a small thing but i like it.
They also seem to have adopted the strategys available from the Tactial Theorums forum - ie a wizard that allows you to customise your own strategy. Aswell as being able to shout touchline advice and the animations are so much better - watch as your goalie gets irate when a goal flys past him and then the net billows with the power of the shot - awsome. The devils in the details...
I'm playing as the mighty Hull (quiet Benny lol) - I'm 16th at the moment, my plan is to stay up and try and improve the quality of the squad year in year out. We shall see.
I'm not sure either way whether I'll buy it or not, I seem to have just about lost interest in footy management games at the mo, I think the accumulated years of playing them all may have caught up with me.
