Title: FM2009 Compo
Post by: Benny on July 14, 2009, 01:12:36 PM
Righto, roll up. If there's any interest I'll make it more formal in here.

Here's the suggestion,

Standard Database
Nation - England
League Level - Blue Square North and South
DB size - small

Team to manage - Blue Square North - Vauxhall. Everything else default.

Three seasons to start with? Post up your progress and hints and tips and let's see who can topple Dewey as the resident statto...

Any takers?

I am in mate sounds like fun.

By Standard database you mean the patched version but without any user changes?

What Patch version are we at?

dunno the patch level, as long as you don't make changes, go with the default....

(I've played one match...they really are shocking)

How many millions do I get lol :)

Ok I've never stooped this far into the mire of 'playground' football - but I'll give it a bash.

I guess you have a wage budget of 'half a conker and crisp packet' and transfer budget of 'sweet FA'?

Right, let's get it on.....

You're going home in a funky ambulance,
You're just a small town near London,
You all live in a funky caravan..

and other such highbrow taunts and chants....

You lot started yet?

I've played my pre-seasons....lost all bar one, which was a 2-2. They really are crap. I'm hoping my new signing, Yankov, can be our salvation.

Lost first game of the season.

My 4-2-4 free flowing attacking football might be a little too much to ask of the motormen.

Only time will tell.

Thing is that 6- 0 loss might be good - it might go to Goal Difference lmfao!

Unfortunantly or (fortunatly) I have just realised that my database is my modified one where I gave Liverpool 1 billion in transfers and made all the players at Man U and Chelski 35 years old!

Erm..... Guess I better start again.

Well, 7 games in and it's going......badly.

My striker looks the business, but the rest are pretty poor. An interesting pre-season, recording loss after loss. I've got myself a few free signings. Yankov and the loan striker on the attached are probably the cream of the crop....

bY cream I mean curdled and fairly woeful. Expect a full update in the next day or so.

I'm currently several games in, I signed 5 no hopers, who turned out to be erm... awful.

I've won 1 drawn 1 and lost several!

I'm getting into debt.

On the positive side, I see flashes of Arsenal, sorry WBA, sorry Hull City, sorry ....

Usual game goes something like this, let a goal in the first 6 mins, score an equaliser, then watch my goalie (and I use that term in its loosest erm term) as he invariably props himself up against an upright and watches shots from 30 yds fly into the net! Useless? I only wish he was that good!

Is this enjoyable, hmm not so far, I don't mind losing if I can build a team, but with 0 funds I haven't even got that too look forward too. Will I complete a season - I've no idea, it depends on how masochistic I'm feeling.

Where's your bulldog spirit?

Sign Yankov on a free to bolster the defence, then have a hunt around for some freebies.

I usually score a couple then capitulate. If I can bolster the defence (got a new keeper whose name I can't remember on a free - Dean Parton or something like that) who seems ok.

C'mon Dewey, unleash the donkey jacket and get yourself stuck in. Imagine the feeling when your mighty motormen take on Hull.

After my restart due to dodgy joke database I seem to be doing ok.
Pre-season I recorded a couple of wins one of them was a 5 - 1 thumping too.

Lost first game of season but went on the draw the 2nd and win the third!!

My problem is I have signed so many players to find some one decent my wage bill is through the roof.

Not sure if the club will last the season.

Onwards I say men!

This looks challenging.... IF someone gets them to the prem, what's the prize?

And what are the rules? Can we download tactics / training schedules?

I normally spend ages, way too long, sorting out and experimenting with tactics and full training schedules when I first load the game...

So nowadays I just browse FM forums to get a decent Tactic and training schedules, nothing overpoweredly amazing but saves me a lot of time... which can be spent finding young soft and limber Brazilians!

(currently playing my arsenal and already it's got too easy so I may start this :) )

I think I may restart and need to research LLM more - strangely my tactics for my Juventus side aren't working for the men from Vauxhall - ok i know I know - i just couldn't be arsed to redo a formation from scratch - but better that than get mullered every match :)

I was quite lazy too and didn't scout for any new players... :g:

Welcome to the challenge butt boy! surely you already know lots of limber and easy young Mexican boys?

How was the trip?

Just as a guide line I set up all my own tactics and training for this compo.
Which is probably the reason why I am losing most games and struggling with the occasion draw.

The game is harsh so many own goals and the oppersite team scoring absolute screamers!!

All this whilst losing a grand a week on wages,  I am hoping for a cash injection or I could be doomed!!

Cowards the lot of ya.

Rise to the challenge and carry on! I think the rule is, if you download any tactics or training you have to post up the source here so we're on a level playing field.

Sound fair?

If you get them to the prem in 2 seasons Butta, the prize is I'll marry Zoot and have Dewey as Maid of Honour.

Been having a good go with Vauxhall, sitting mid table after 6 games, 3 win's and 3 losses, but I've played all the big boys away and was sure to lose. You certainly picked a horrid team to try change around.

Trying to do a "Stoke". All the players stats are awful so I'm only signing players over 6 ft 3 and trying to out-muscle the opposition. Added 12 players to my wage bill (squad depth) and already going into debt, I hope I win a cup to pay this off or I could be declared bankrupt.

My tactic and training is from here Benny http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/f59/tylerbode-tactic-amazing-results-t13524.html#close (http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/f59/tylerbode-tactic-amazing-results-t13524.html#close)

Worked really well at Arsenal but won't work here.... all part timers so cant do proper training this lot...
Tactic might be helping but no clue with this terrible team... 3 wins in 6 though.. maybe it is helping after all....

If I stick with it I can maybe finish top half

p.s make sure you try loan players! the feeder club for Vauxhall is Tranmere and they gave me a great Centre mid worth more than my whole team put together.
really wish I had loaned a good striker.... goals are hard to come by and you can make the rest of the team up with whatever... but someone who can hit the goal is rare in this dismal league

It's going to be a long hard slog.

Starting the season with a target of a mid table finish and after a very successful stint at Tottenham, 'The Benny' or 'Don Benninio' to the fans, was praised as the new messiah my the Motormens ardent fans.

9 games into the season Vauxhall are languishing in 18th position in the Blue Square North with 7 points. The lowlight so far was losing to bitter rivals Blyth Spartans in the Conference League Cup.

It's painfully clear that the players that Don Benninio inherited are not up to the task and within weeks of starting the season he has made no less than 8 signings and the spree doesn't look set to finish just yet. The team is beginning to take shape, veterans Terry Gornell has bagged 6 goals so far and with Zlatko Yankov and Dean Porter being brought in to shore up the leaky defence are we about to see a change of fortunes?

Dane Springer has returned from injury and the manager will be hoping he can return to terrorising the left wing and creating the chances for Gornell and the asst manager, Paul Taylor up front.

It looks like the final piece of the puzzle will be a solid midfielder to chain the play and break up the opposition attacks.

With the next match scheduled against Tamworth, Vauxhall face a difficult struggle. At 10-1 the bookies don't give them much chance, but is this the turning point?

Lets hope so benny!

Its definately a work in progress this challenge but having signed no less than 14 players and trying out 4 different formations I have settled on a 5-3-2 formation.

Its all about getting to know your players at the moment I have 3 defenders 1 midfielder and 1 striker how are on the teamsheet week in week out.

I have a few young guys which are playing nervously at the moment but once they settle I am pretty sure they will slot in nicely.

I alternate my 5-3-2 formation slightly for Home and Away, when playing at home I push the SW to DC with a high line and playing the offside option.

It looks as though selecting a target man or playmaker seriously affects my team for the worse and with man marking they tend to hold up ok against most competion..

Joe Corrigan, Mark Tanner and Alan Griffiths are some gems I have found and the fans are delighted with striker Tony Carroll.

Currently in 16th and running out of cash fast!!

Just looking for survival this season without a relegation dog fight.

You chaps still ploughing away? Just loaded mine up for a session.

Sitting 4rd after 20 games with a game in hand that could take me to 3rd.

My board are over the moon with me, pre-season expectations of relegation and now fighting for promotion :)

Stuck rigidly to my tactics and brought too many players in at the start but they finally have clicked and gelled. Backwards arrows on the strikers seem to help as I get most of my goals from dominating possession and getting crosses into a crowded box. I concede a lot.... but currently the top scorers in the league!

paying 4 k wages ( my budget is 3.6) and the board are not happy, though I received a massive windfall of 75 k for getting to round 2 of the FA cup. ONE game away from possibly playing a premiership team,

Will see if I can maintain the form and win the lottery of play-offs :).
Title: Defeat :(
Post by: Salvatore Buttafacio on August 03, 2009, 10:03:30 PM
My brave Vauxhall Motor's almost achieved the impossible dream. Promotion.

We were 10 minutes away from penalty's in the playoff final and conceded to Southport. So painfully close, it really hurts.

Overall season stats:

Sensational comeback in my playoff semi final. Lost 1-0 down at home, then went to their's and managed to lead 1-0 after 90 minutes. And then Rooney (thomas rooney) scored the winner for me in extra time after extra time! GET IN!

And finally my best 11 for the season. All my goals came from 3 players it seems :O Thomas Rooney my little magician upfront, Paul Henry on loan from Tranmere pulling the strings in midfield, and finally Aradavan Djahansouzi my quality little centre back who scored from many a corner!

Big expectations for next season !

Any of you guys still doing this?

I am doing it but only now and then. Still using my homemade tactics and training.

Currently in 13th but its amazing how far a win can send you up the league.

I have to admit to promoting Rooney to a starting place after seeing Buttas achievement.

20th

8 games losing streak in full flow.

The fans are screaming for me to change my 4-4-2 attacking formation.

But I am sticking by my tactics its the only way I can get them playing any sort of decent football.

I am hoping to have the team adjusted and firing on all fronts in time to get out of the relagation zone.

Leaving a strong attacking base for season 2

The only way I can win games is by moving away from 442, but then I have to switch it back otherwise I concede in the last 5 minutes.

My best midfielder broke his leg the day after he signed.

11th

Players are getting it together now starting to play well too.

I had to switch to a 4-2-4 defensive formation with 2 seperate tactics

1:Wide, passing down the flanks, long ball
2:Narrow, high line, mixed focus and passing

Switching between the two has given me the following 3 runs

WWWWL
WLDWW
LWDDW

I moved all my partially used players to the reserves and stuck with my 16.

the main thing at the moment is bouncing back from the loses.

38 games played morale Superb! Losing money in fistfuls!

Happy Days indeed

promoted in second season and was steam rolling the blue square premier clear top of the table in the start of the third .. before i got bored..

too easy to get great players in on loan and free transfers.. who would never consider the motormen in real life
