I won't have proper internet for a while. I'm back up in Swansea and I'm "borrowing" internet from a neighbour, but it's very slow and the signal drops. Not something I can download stuff on. Checked out the homepage and it looks good. Different classes and basically forced voice comms with a compass to help direct your team.

I played for over an hour tonight, Half early evening with about 5v5 mostly dMw'ers but some randoms, and that was really enjoyable.
We were all newbies and finding our way (cheers for the help Snokio:D)
I rejoined after 11 tonight  and played for half an hour (until the phone rang and disco'd me:sideways:) and the server was rammed with people, about 5 or 6 dMw'ers and the rest publics.
Some good tactical play, pubbies with comms:blink:, and a right good laugh.
I reckon that this game could have some miles in it....maybe:D

You really need to watch the youtube video to see what the "ghost" is about. Basically you are all android, cyborg type things and the "ghost" is a torso which contains software to be able to see all enemy contacts in a 40 metre range.

If you pick it up, you switch to it as a weapon and it uplinks (after a few seconds) to get the information on the enemy, you tell your team direction and distance info so they can protect you while you make your way to the capture point or wipe out the opposition.

You lose your main weapon when you pick up the "ghost" and can't shoot while using it. You still have a pistol, but must unlink from the "ghost" to use it.

Instead of CTF, think of it as CTR, "Capture The Radar".

Watch this to avoid feeling lost on your first few rounds.

Abit about the game:

Neotokyo is set in future Japan around 2050. The Japanese government is losing control over the country so that conflicts between government troops and oppositional factions are a daily occurrence. The futuristic battles offer special weapons and technologies such as invisibility and heat detectors.

The modification has been developed for more than five years (sinse October 2004). The download is FREE. The first version of Neotokyo offers ten final maps.

NeotokyoÃ,° releases to the public and achieves a massive and unprecedented following in its initial release. Download estimates for the launch weekend tally over 60,000 in two days. The developer, Studio Radi-8, announces plans to support the community and issue further content updates.

Neotokyo is a Source engine modification available for free to anyone that owns a game with access to the Source SDK base. Neotokyo is a first person shooter set in a rich futuristic setting inspired by works such as ââ,¬Å"The Ghost in the Shellââ,¬Â and ââ,¬Å"AKIRAââ,¬Â. It combines a unique twist on a capture the flag gametype with tactical elements to create a whole new gameplay experience.

Neotokyoââ,¬â,,¢s initial release contains a wealth of content. It includes 10 environments, 26 new weapons among 3 different class types, and a custom soundtrack with 15 songs (which can either be purchased or uoi can listen to them here:

http://www.neotokyohq.com/nt_music_player.html (I quite like them)

Following its highly successful and prolific first release, Studio Radi-8 is now revealing plans for the future of Neotokyo. Up to 11 new maps are already well into development and will be released in map pack updates. These maps will attain the same visual quality of those released so far.
 Ã¢â,¬Å"Studio Radi-8 has been quite literally knocked off our feet by the overwhelmingly positive response to Neotokyo,ââ,¬Â said Justin Harvey, lead programmer of the mod. ââ,¬Å"We never imagined how much support would pour out from the online gaming communities for our "little" project. Cheers, and expect more exciting things coming online for NeotokyoÃ,°.ââ,¬Â

Class Profile:

Recon:

Fast-thinking operatives utilizing a light-weight cyborg combat chassis sacrifice everything for stealth and agility. With only an armor-reinforced skull between a bullet and the brain, the Recon utilizes cloaking and augmented muscles to avoid enemy fire. Their primary role is to spot enemy units while using the mobility to easily avoid threats. However, recon units are also effective at flanking enemies, using their speed to take routes normally overlooked, or to quickly cross open spaces.

The recon class has access to active camouflage and a sprinting long jump (forward sprint + jump). Night-vision is used to navigate through maintenance pathways and other darkened shortcuts. high ranking operators have access to explosive devices, which they can plant depp in hostile zones to deny routes or to surprise heavily armored foes.

Assault:

Assault aperatives utilize a cyborg combat chassis that embodies a combination of speed, protection and firepower. They are effective at clearing enclosed rooms where the ability to runfrom cover to coveris just as important as the ability to take a bullet.

The assault class has access to a combat-issue active camouflage kit, which can be used in emergencies or in lightning attacks. Each operator carries a high explosive grenade.

The assault class utilizes motion vision to quickly identify potential flanking threats and to uncover cloaked individuals.

Support:

Shock trooper utilize a reinforced heavy combat chassis in order to survive the most dangerous of environments. Euphemistically neamed 'Support' operatives, they are tasked with crushing exposed enemies. Thier armor allows them to absorb damage in situations that would normally tear apart operatives in Recon or Assult issue armor. For this reason, they are often tasked providing covering fire, where the ability to shoot and draw sniper fire takes priority over mobility, or tasked with penetrating heavily barricaded positions. While Support units have the ability to withstand horrific punishment, they are discouraged from walking into prepared ambushes.
With their heat-imaging vision, support operatives can pin-point uncloaked enemies and see past smoke

I also downloaded from Gamershell and it went really fast.
Got to say that a few people did ask if we were recruiting so I gave them the link to our forum (I know, we don't recruit but if they get here they'll read it).

There also seem to be quit a few regulars that return to the server as I've found out.

Got to say I like the gameplay alot and need to get the hang of it a bit more with a few kits.
A warning for people using the 3rd kit, if you use the smokegrenades, your teamm8s can't see through it if they have another kit. So give a warning first before using them.

Still, I downloaded the game Saturday, played it Saturday-evening untill Sundaymorning 03.00 and played again Sunday afternoon and evening.

Enjoyable and tactic game.

I have had a couple of really great tactical games so far :D but many have also been frag fests.

One thing that could be done is: at the beginning of the round someone volunteers or we appoint the "Ghost-carrier".
He/She will be calling the shots through-out the round. These orders should obviously be obeyed  :narnar:

That way there is no confusion as to who is heading towards the Ghost and who will be covering and so onââ,¬Â¦.

I did notice (did this myself also) that at the beginning of the round people seem to just spread out...some will run off to the left other to the right and others head for the ghost.
This should really be coordinated. A caller or the "ghost-carrier" should let us know how many people he needs around himââ,¬Â¦and he can send the remaining players off to provide some cover or flank the enemy.

In general I think we just have to figure out how to best coordinate all the players. If we can come up with a plan at the beginning of the round and make sure everyone knows what the plan is, hopefully people will follow 

Even though we are all new to the game, I have noticed that we tend to only start using coms once we have the Ghost. We should start getting used to using coms through out the whole match, from spawn time till death.
Splitting up into Alpha Bravo Charlie at the beginning of the round and ensuring each team knows which role they have to play that round should help things along.

As the Ghost-carrier we should try and use player names as often as possible. If the ghost knows he has James and John close to him, he can specifically say: John, 1 enemy 20 meters SW. James 1 enemy 15m NE.

That way both players know it is down to them to provide cover/protection rathern then james/john assuming somebody else might do it.

It's still early days yet. I'm sure our communication will improve as we get to know the in's & out's.

Cya on the server! :yahoo: :boxing:

Would it work if we used the actual ranks that are in game somehow?, ive played when there as been, for arguments sake, 2 luitenants, a few corporals and the rest privates, would it be a good idea to have the highest ranked player(s) to lead the team? this would be good for example if there were 2 luitenants then one could take bravo team and the other alpha? you see where im going with this? :g:

also, in order to earn your rank you have to play well, so you would always know that the players leading the team would be more than likely good at the game itself, just a thought :rolleyes:

I haven't played the game. Still "borrowing" internet at the moment. However If it is centred around the ghost is there a way to get the game to pick a random player each round to be nominated leader (and either pick someone to get the ghost or have it themselves).
Many of the admin mods in CS:S seem to have enough powerful features to do things like this if it was wanted. Are there any server admin tools for this yet?
Title: NEOTOKYO - HL2 Source Mod
Post by: DuVeL on July 21, 2009, 09:15:51 AM
Actually, I think the one picking up the Ghost needs to know how to use it and needs to have one of the faster kits (or in some cases the heavy).
Auto-assigning can be troubling as some publics still don't use VC's.

Last night we had a few guys not covering the Ghostcarrier (publics).
While DA and Acid were only covering me with the Ghost, the most off the squad would just try and flank everytime.

We need to set some rules like;
-Cover the Ghostcarrier;
-When the enemy has the ghost, try and retrieve it.

And another thing, if a private picks up the Ghost, he gets points for it so he can rank up. So, it's not only for the higher ranks.

I enjoyed it last night

We had some good games and there were a couple of pubbies on there that were real keepers.

I'm sure Blunt noticed them too. Neotokin (?) or someone would be worth looking out for and Axon too.

Let's keep an eye out for them.

Nice idea on the ranks Sparko but I have to say that I was the highest rank for a while there and didn't have a clue.

PS. As an aside, Section Head or not, when Blunt's rank turned to 'Rankless Dog' I thought I was going to wet myself with laughter.

i think its given to people that TK, or players that have 0 point but like 5 deaths or somthing, might be wrong, ill monitor next time we play and see if there is a connection.

Dom m8, I allready told Snokio about last night.
You, me, Goel and Ranger were still on.

For those that don't know what happend;
3 rounds before the end of the map the opposite team got their large sniperguns (some of our side had them allready but decided not to use them).
They then started to camp way back in the map to pick off us moving up and since it was a very open map they could pick us of easy.
Defending the exitpoint is a good strategy but atleast 2 times they had the ghost 30 metres from their spawn.

This guy called "Red" was the worst guy last night.

One question still for Snokio;
Who are the admins on NeoTokyo?

The CS:S admins (public and private) will have access to the in game sourcemod menu but all admins have access to the RCON password and can kick/ban using it.

yh i was on the server the other night with jabbs and there was a person called shinobi90 or what ever using racial & foul language and speaking in a forign language even the messages where popping up im sure he was perssistant to be getting kicked or even banned even I was telling him to watch his his language and speak english but then he was swearing at me so i went for back up and then the admin came on :D
so thank you who ever that was.
but having a wider range off admins on will be a good idea due to the fact off this problem it was very late into the night and its not fair asking somebody that is proberly going to get ready for bed and dragging them into the sittuation.
so i think that a few more admins should be brought in i mean people in the clan that are on all the time and are up for it.
If thhis makes sense thank God cause in now getting confussed.
see you all soon.

I knew this was going on but it was my first visit and I didn't know my head from my toes :) so wasn't completely aware of the concerns being raised.

I'm really tempted to download this, but as my mic is buggered atm I am a bit hesitant, as someone mentioned that voice comms are crucial.

Would I be better of first sorting my mic out and then getting it, or would it be safe to mess around with it for a bit?

i would say that voice comms are essential when being the ghost carrier as you need to give directions fast.
you can play without them as many pubbs do so, but its does make it hard work on the rest of your team.

well worth downloading and worthwhile getting a new mic for :flirty:

I think you should try the game even without a mic, just dont pick up the ghost :)

Not sure how:

1. when GC calls positions, they're relative to his position right. So you need to be beside him presumably or the direction will be off.

2. How do  you tell whether the targets are above, below or on the same level as you?

Thx

1. Yep, all the GC's calls are relative to him.

2. When GC has uplinked he can see whether the enemy are level/above/below/jumping about. Like X-Ray vision, he can see thru walls/ceilings/floors.

HTH

It all depends how good the GC calls are. He/she might say. 'Theres one top floor  20m west' or something like that. But the closer you are to the GC the more sense his calls will make.. Unless we get to know the maps so well and then the GC calls 'Plane' or whatever :)

My computer dosent seem to like the map changes of this game. just comes us with a message saying 'hl2 has encounterd a promlem' and it close the game. Why!? :help2:

usually when the GC says for instance "2 guys north" there is generally a doorway or access that the opposition can come from, from the direction stated.

not had any problems running it on XP, but for some reason it doesnt like Windows 7, it keeps juddering, almost like having constant lag, it loads ok but is unplayable after it has loaded :ranting2:

Installing the game now. :flirty:

Edit: A really fun game and I can see lots of potential newcomers being introduced to dMw through it. However, I'm wondering what people have changed their key commands to as some seem a little strange. For example, should I bother with a walk key?

There is no walk key (when you aim you slow down though)

Ah ok Goel, I know that you can assign walk to a key (it's unassigned as default), just wasn't sure whether people used it or not.
Title: Patch progress

Info On patch progress:

I just thought I would share a bit of what we have been working on post release. Since our release back on July 3rd, we have resumed working on updating Neotokyo. Right now we have a client patch in the works which will address a number of bugs and exploits as well as add a couple of bonus maps. I say bonus maps because the first is a night version of nt_dawn_ctg which I called nt_dusk_ctg. This map when I originally created it, was a night map to begin with but I changed it to daytime mainly for looks. This version of the map in playtesting has shown recons in particular enjoy it for reasons I assume are obvious.

http://img78.imageshack.us/i/ntiyashictg0024ls2.jpg/ (http://img78.imageshack.us/i/ntiyashictg0024ls2.jpg/)

The patch we hope to have ready for release very soon, but we are still testing/tweaking and retesting to make sure we fix as many issues as we can. The current changelist is not final, but here is a taste of what we have done thus far.

* Added map nt_bullet_tdm.
* Added map nt_dusk_ctg.
* MPN is now silenced.
* Increased chat lines, 18 from 6, and increased time chat stays.
* In chat, people who are dead have a [DEAD] prefix.
* Fixed erroneous enemy beacons in ghost scan.
* Weapons are now lowered when on ladders.
* Squad mates distance is now displayed in crosshair-over context.
* Team icons are now over heads and opacity increased for non-squad mate icons - squad mate icons are bigger.
* Fixed bullet damage/penetration bug.
* Grenades and detpacks no longer collide with players (fixes issue where you could place a det pack in a player to immobilize them).
* Removed "unconnected" from death notifications.
* Moved squad keys to F5-F10 and added "slot" commands for server plugin support.
* Add round start/end events for server plugin support.
* Teams locked to 16 players max.
* Changed team kill/grief punish to 1 minute ban and kick.
* Added neo_teamkill_punish cvar.
* Knife exploit fixed.
* Assault and Support classes can no longer bunny hop speed exploit.
* Secured weapon scripts.

Same as CSS and CoD4, join and do invites.
Do a bump on the appropriate thread and sit back as the server fills up:D
It worked a treat last night for CSS and tonight we had loads on CoD4.

ANYONE CAN DO IT!
:D
