Title: My computer broke
Post by: Limps on July 23, 2009, 06:02:51 PM
Hi guys, yesterday i was playing some battlefeild2 and suddenly the screen frooze and colors went weird blured. i knew this was bad, but i pushed the restart button and the computer rebooted and i could start the game np but then as i was getting a cup of coffee i came back and it was frozen again and for the second time while having this computer a blue screen came up saying hardware failed on drivers or it might be broken with this error
code: nv4_disp (it also said it was getting endless loops of data from the system)
It said to reboot and if the blue screen still came i should call the dealer ^^. i really had no choise but to push the restart button, and i did but to my worst fears it was a black screen and the hdd was working very hard but nothing happend. so now i am without a computer using my work laptop to get in touch with the world.
i pretty much given up cuz nothing happends, though i will try to take out the ram 1 by 1 might be broken. but this mean i can not raid :ranting2: and i need to buy a new computer as this might be toast (5 years old) :ranting2: if any one have and idear how to fix this mess or try to do something. I will write somethings i have tried.

Its not the monitor.
nothing look burned
a green light is on the motherboard have not bin able to find out what it means but it could be the motherboard.
tried to take out graffic card and insert it again no luck seem fine.
i have not had time to search on the windows error code
I hope some one have some idears cuz i really wanna get it to work, cuz my next computer buy is very special and expensive pc for movie projects so i really dont wanna rush a buy.
:crying:

i tried about everything might be replacing the graffic card before even getting anything happening. Though have any ever had this fault, i pushed the restart button before it dumped the physical memory and that is prob bad. i tried to move some ram blocks around as that worked last time i would have tried the onboard graffic card but cant cuz its so old it only have the old crt screen output.
ahhh if anything can get me mad its f..... sh.t computer that breake or is slow i left jobs before because their computers was just to slow.
and the worst possible timing for this to happend :ranting2:

DEFINTELY change the gfx - beg steal or borrow one - ANYTHING! to get a new grafics card in that PC :)

Preferrably NOT Nvidia as the Nvidia drivers are probably  shot to pieces

By booting in safe mode thats not really a issue, which is something he should after replacing it

it sounds like its something heavy like mainboard or memory/processor seeing as you dont get any view screen whyle the HD is working overtime an 'something'.....

Ty mate i miss ya all to it driving me crazy not being able to use my computer.
And you are right mate it could have somehing to do with motherboard vs ram cuz i had ram dim burned of on the motherboard but that longtime ago and fixed but it could have something to do with ram vs graffic card. as the problem really startet with new drivers, i found out that new drivers take more ram for graffic use and my computer is 4-5 years old and not really meant to use that much ram it could have something to do with it and after looking for the loop error vs gf 7300gt it startet to make sence its is a wide spread problem in a nut shell the different part dont speak well enough together because of drivers vs hardware, solution is to use tweaked drivers for gamers :( but that is to late i am afraid.
so a new graffic card might be the only way out.

:woot2::woot2::woot2::woot2::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::woot2::woot2::woot2:

it is working ;) aye it was right it was graffic card drivers vs ram that was the problem after buying a cheap (20 pound) graffic card geforce 5700 le (and may i add it was the last shop in copenhagen i called and picked it up 3 minutes before they closed :P) But i so fu... happy it works again now i need to look at finding tweaked drivers for gaming with the old one as i think it works fine. This one i have should be good for wow and battlefeild2 ;)

Thanks a lot for all support ;) it was great i will be on tonight to see if there might be a ulduar 10 going otherwise cya all tomorrow for "Revenge in Ulduar"

Greetings
