Title: Lan XVI - Details
Post by: Penfold on August 05, 2009, 12:27:24 PM
We are delighted to announce confirmation of the dMw's 16th LAN party:

LAN XVI is on 23rd - 25th October 2009

The LAN will officially open at 10.00am on Friday morning
The LAN will officially end  on Sunday (time tbc)

Please note that we have a maximum of 40-ish places and these will be allocated on a first
   come first served basis.

Booking hierarchy:

International and Supporting Members are given first option to book. ONE WEEK LATER, the booking thread will open to everyone else.

(Please note that international gamers have a dispensation to pre-book so they can book their flights early). They are free to book places now.

Please note that the minimum age for attending the LAN is 18.

Also, please note that you will be required to sign a liability waiver form on arrival at the LAN (unless you have previously signed one). It a condition of attendance that you agree to complete it.
Please note that if you fail to show up or give us little notice - a contribution to the LAN funds would still be appreciated (As things such as the amount of the prize fund are determined by the number of sign ups).

LAN Details:

Dates: Friday 23rd October, Saturday 24th Octoberand Sunday 25th October 2009
Venue: Oliver Cromwell (http://www.olivercromwellhotel.co.uk/), March, Cambridgeshire.
Times: The LAN venue opens at 11.00am Friday morning and the LAN will finish on Sunday (time tbc)

dMw Costs: For the venue - Ã,£15 total per head for the whole weekend (Please note that if you are a Community Supporter then the fee is reduced to Ã,£10).

Hotel Costs:
Bed & Breakfast Accommodation: double occupancy Ã,£33 per person per night, sole occupancy Ã,£50 per room per night
Room Availability: 35 x Double; 8 x Twin

If you book a Twin Room and want to share the costs of the room then when you post in this thread to confirm your attendance then also make a note of the fact you have a Twin room booked and are looking for someone to share with.

As before, the reduced accommodation and function room rates have been negotiated on the basis that the majority of the attendees will partake of the excellent cuisine offered by either the hotel restaurant's Fixed price, A La Carte or Bar menus on the Friday night. JOIN US for the WELCOME DINNER on Friday evening in Ballroom 2 at 7.30pm. WE STRONGLY REQUEST THAT YOU MAKE THE EFFORT TO EAT WITH US ON THE FRIDAY NIGHT.

Steak Night is on Friday Night !

The Oliver Cromwell offers:
When booking your room please give them both your real name AND your GAMING NAME so that I can keep tabs of who has booked and who has not. Also, you *must* mention that you are booking in on the dMw rate, otherwise they will charge you full price!

Amongst other things the LAN will feature:

- a list of officially supported games (COD4, L4D and CS variants will be there)
- organised competitions
- official LAN Admins
- late night gaming

With your participation the LAN will be a great one, so reserve your spot as soon as the Booking Thread is published to make sure you do not miss out!

Enjoy!

Note for International Travellers:

The LAN accommodation costs are above, it's cheaper if you agree to share a twin bed (two single beds) room with someone of course.

The LAN venue we charge at Ã,£15 per person for the whole weekend (Ã,£10 for Community Supporters).

Other costs: Food and drink - this depends on you. If you're eating dinner in the restaurant it costs around Ã,£20-Ã,£25 plus drinks. Others prefer to buy sandwiches, get Pizza, kebabs or burgers etc and stick to beer not wine etc.

Travel: Any London airport works well, Stanstead & Luton are closest. Heathrow is ok, Gatwick is further but still doable. If you book your flight tickets we'll make sure someone picks you up and takes you back - post on the forums for a lift and you are usually sorted out very quickly as other attending members appreciate the international effort made! Other airports are also a possibility - if in doubt post and we'll see if anyone would be travelling past your airport!

Computer: If you have a shuttle or laptop then you're probably sorted (unless hand luggage rules cause you problems) but if you cannot bring your own PC then post in the LAN section to see if someone is willing to lend you a spare PC for the weekend. Many people have done this in the past and it seems to work well!

Hurray, Last year was such a blast, can't wait for this one :D

Last time I attended I had a single room. Even though that was really nice, if someone's looking for a room mate, let me know (via this topic, pm or email) I'm happy to share a room with anyone.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT THE BOOKING THREAD

The booking list is up and is in Supporting Member forum.

It's currently open for International and Supporting Members (although non-supporting international members can't see it - I apologise, but I can't solve that). If that applies to anyone then they can send me/Sheepy a pm.

The direct link is HERE. (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=285306#post285306)

The booking thread will go live in this forum on the 12th August for everyone else to book

Thanks to everyone who attended the LAN and (by all accounts) made it a great success.

I've updated the badges to reflect those people who came and removed them from those who haven't attended either of the last two LANs. (As you know, they last for a year).

TL will shortly be posting up the LAN accounts (many thanks to Ninja_Freak for once again handling them so professionally).

Thanks are also due to DuVeL and Luminance for their SyrupWaffles - the proceeds of which have gone to the Community Funds.

Thanks also to GhostMjr (who also won the Helping Hand Award) for getting the Crucial sponsorship and to those of you who came, those who bought some stuff/crap at the auction and those who gave donations.

Like I said more to come from TL shortly.

If you haven't been badged up then please let me know and I'll get it sorted.

Finally, thanks again to the 'usual crew' who helped bring and configure the servers, sort the networks etc - such as Benny, Whitey, BrotherTobious, Gandy & Oldbloke. I'm sure there were many others who also helped out and to those, we're grateful.

Thanks all.

Although I didn't go, it's always great to see how many people want to get involved and help each other out. Well done and a proxy thanks to you all.
