ok here is the situation.
can launch CS and the server starts as normal, game reports all is normal, the map is loaded and its ready to go. "status" shows the game is lisening on blackadders ip and on the approriate port.
However a "netstat" on the linux console shows nothing bound to 27015 !!!!
I also get instantly rejected when I try to telnet that port.
So what gives? the game says all is ok, linux says all is not.
I'm so fecked with this now.

ok I'm beat. Even with the total download of 1.6 via that link oldie provided still the same..... game says all is fine and it be listening, fekin linux says no its not. So does my cs client.
This has interfered with my work for the best part of two days now (or is that my work has interfered with fixing blackadder?) and I'm beat.
I must admit I have no idea why this peice of shit is not working.
I posted that link on page 2 of this thread :) . I have downloaded the linux tar file with the cached files included (300Mb) shall I up load it to the leech?
no cos I got that.... and tried it..... and same results.... just as I said in the post above.

Have you posted in the two support forums?
No but feel free to pass on my woes.
At this time in one ditch attempt to rule out the O/S I'm copying over the cs1.6 game dir to my server, its a redhat distro base.
If it works I guess its debian or the config of that is the issue..... or valve having software issues with that distro. What that would mean for us is anyones guess.
I meant to say in worst case scenario, we will have meathook and baldric back, allbeit working off the crosswired ltd server..... then we'd have to figure out blackadder.
ok, kind of good news. I get exactly the same behaviour from frunning CS server on totally seperate hardware and Linux distro.
So far we've had that behavious from a steam upgrade copy, some blocks total distro tar ball, and on two different server hardware.
What does that tell us?
And what is this "version: 46/1.1.2.0/Stdio 2511 Secure" message I keep seeing.

I've posted in the CS server forum. Just off to do the Steam one.
I may need your help with the replies
ok, email them to jonathan@crosswired.co.uk or just give me a nudge via email.
Found this in Steam forum:
Quoteyeah, if you ever get into a weird state with the files for your server delete the InstallRecord.blob and run the steam update command again. It will re-verify that each file matches the one on our server, and for ones that don't it will download them again.
downloading and installing that 250MB distro would of ruled that out.
