Title: Healing - Semiangel
Post by: evoxer on September 16, 2009, 12:22:27 AM
Jim / Jas / Bay

After Semi's performance tonight (often lagging behind Mezz - similarish gear etc) by 50% i figured i would drill into this and full investigate the two:

In an attempt to understand priestyness n stuff

Semi Angel vs Mezz

specs both 14 /57/ 0

However, Semi missing T7 - Surge of Light 2/2
           missing T4 - Holy Reach 2/2

Has instead  T3 - Desperate prayer 1/1
        T9 - Test of faith 3/3

Id suggest swapping these immediately.. as the ones shes missing are far more valuable.

Glyphs >

Semi needs to get rid of glyph of power word: shield and replace it with Glyph of Circle of Healing.

Raw Stats n gear

               MEZZ |   SEMI
healing:        2299 |   2014
crit %:       20.01 |   16.51
Mana Regen:      667  |   731
Intellect:             1078 |   923
Mana:       19753 |   17428

Gear Gems & Enchants>

Would recommend semi changing the items listed to include the enhancements below:

Head > 30 spell power and 20 crit strike
Shoulders > spell power and crit enchant (gem change > spell power and intellect / intellect and mp5)
Cloak > would recommend haste over spirit enchant
Chest > +10 stats enchant (replace gems with spell power + intellect)
Main Hand > replace gem with spell power + intellect
Waist > replace gem with spell power + intellect
Trousers > replace gems with int/spirit and or spellpower/int
Feet > Replace gem with spell power / int

Playstyle:

Stop using holy nova > pretty much wasted

Advise to prioritise spells as: POM > Renew > Circle of healing > the rest

Do not take breaks.. realtime logs show good start but with sustained healing varying throughout the fight.

Example:
Mezz casts 406 Landing Heals
Semi casts 210 Landing Heals

Thats 196 less heals cast from semi before taking into account the bonus healing from mezz gear / setup.

Can someone with vague priesty knowledge look over this and nod encouragingly before i formulate this into a nice pm.

Regards
Evo

ok just read through this and for your benefit evo :P

Agree with the spec change, i don't know how someone, in general, could not use Surge of Light, i want it for my discness :P

Agree'd with the glyph change, as long as i'm in the raid there should be no other priests casting Power word shield on anyone bar themselves (let them at least do that ;) )

dont have time at the moment but i'll check out enchants / gems when i'm home later today...

Yep, agree'd on holy nova not to be used at all, i only use it if people in my group are all missing like 1000 health just for the initial heal....

On prioritising spells, mention Prayer of Healing :)

Other than that looks great Evo, mention to her to chat with Mezz about the best way to heal.... i would love to see in the next raid both our lubly priesties (:sideways: disc =/) at the top :)

Evo, forgive me for stepping in to your thread, but Jim you really need to sort your own spec before trying to join in and act as teacher to others.  I told you months back that you were missing the single most important glyph that discipline priests needed, I even reminded you again about a month ago and you laughed at me.   I really can't think of a good reason why you would have a discipline build and not be using the bubble glyph - am I missing something?

I'm sorry, but if you can't be bothered to sort your own spec out how do you expect others to take you seriously?

Agreed Holy Reach is a mandatory.  However there are other issues too.  Use Willhunting (http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Aszune&n=willhunting&group=2) as a decent reference point for a holy priest build.  Cue discussion about why 5/5 Divine Fury is not needed.

Agreed with the glyph recommendation, CoH glyph could also be replaced by the PoH glyph if Semi is your PoH specialist in the raid.  I would also get rid of spirit of redemption - this glyph is merely a way of prolonging a wipe which is pointless - something like the GS glyph makes much more sense and has way more raid benefit.

Holy nova is an interesting one.  If glyphed it actually works out as a powerful (and yet another instant) heal and seriously beneficial to fights like Thorim where arena cast delays means instant casts are at a premium, or to fights where you need to heal & move in groups.  We run one Nova glyphed holy priest in Eluo for example.

Re spell priority, this really will change from fight to fight.  The only really clear thing to me is to deprioritise Renew.  The bulk of Renew is overheal anyway and the resto druid does it way better, so holy priests should not be prioritising that spell.

Gems & enchants I have not read in detail, but generally yes SP + Int as the key things to get, with an Int + Spi to satisfy meta requirements only.  The meta needs changing to the Intellect with mana refund one too.

Activity
The thing the degree of difference in activity levels suggests to me is that you have a double clicker here (click to select, then click to heal).  I would ask about Semi's UI and make sure that they are using something like Grid (with appropriate plugins & libs), combined with e.g. Clique to bind the key macro'd heals/dispells etc to suitable mouse key combos.

Double clickers will always tend to have low throughput as by the time they have double clicked the person is already healed up by another healer.  Spending 30 minutes sorting Semi's UI might have a bigger impact upon activity levels than anything else.

Grid is the best ui mod tho i find it difficult to setup. So i went the healbot road. Anyway one of these is a must .. how else would you know who has a debuff that needs attention

When i have looked at Mezz the majority of healing comes from CoH... maybe some way to get that sucker poped on every coodown?  For me i have "wild growth" with a "6 second CD" macro'ed. I have a cast sequnce that resets every 7 seconds.

/castsequence reset=7 [target=hbtarget] Rejuvenation, Lifebloom, Lifebloom, Lifebloom, Wild Growth
It works well for me as I slip down the members dropping hots on them. Maybe the format can be tweeked for a priest

Is it possible semi is doing reaction healing. So waiting to see a health drop before kicking into action ?

Evo and I talked to semiangel after tonights raid (24/9/09) and went through our suggestions to her and she's taken them on board and we reminded her that we're here to help and not to have a go :)

Will keep an eye on her and se if our words of wisdom have been taken into effect

Yep the talk seemed to go she took onboard everything we had to say and although she didnt fully agree with everything shes going to begin implementing things to see what effect they have.

Hopefully this should push her healing up loads if everything "clicks"

Last night she seemed to have a dip in her performance but picked up in the end of the night although i picked up a couple of points

1) Gave help to others then didnt do it herself
2) Bubbled the tanks (told her not to) then questioned why she couldnt

after the 2nd point i began to think that someone else was playing her char

3) Didnt pay attention to some bits
4) Died too easily

Although once i had gone to shadow for Twins + anub i have no idea how she got on, although Evo said she got better

What I found remarkable was that she was saying "People who get Legion fire get a blue square on their heads so it's really easy to see" and the next try we go in, she's standing with the square on her head for like a year, in the smack middle of the fire, and dies.
