Could be a bit of a long shot.
I want to buy a leaf blowing machine and know nothing about them. Wondering if anyone here does.
I'm more concerned about performance than price and would rather pay more for something that works well than less for something adequate. I'm therefore more after a professional model than a consumer one I suppose.
I can find them online but it's gonna be pot luck unless anybody here have any experience with these or know of particular brands/models I should go for or avoid.
Thanks
When would someone want to use a blower instead of raking etc?
I've seen people use them to blow leaves off paths, but it's just moving them elsewhere and a good wind will blow them about again. Unless the intention is to blow into a big pile and gather.
Actually, they "suck" aswell.
And that was ment in a good way and that's what I reckon Pen is looking for.
My 2 cents, go to your local "hardware"shop and just ask.
My mom got one pretty cheap and it's still working. I think she even got it from the "LIDL" or Aldi.
Sorry Pen, I know it's in serious though but I had to make some pun.
Best thing to get is one with a bag so you can suck it up, ehrm the leafs up and then trash it in a container.
Maybe drop a message to da_Ricci as he knows something more about machines like that then me.

The idea is to blow them into a pile to collect. Raking is ok but as it is I spend 2.5 hours cutting and raking the grass in the summer every week or so (have to flymo).
Then, as the grass stops growing, it's time for the 20 or so trees - (deciduous unfortunately) which are in the garden to dump their load. Then the acres of woodland which border the back of the garden dump their leaves - usually blowing into the garden as well.
All in all I could spend hours per week raking
(I think Sucky ones won't work as I'd spend too much time emptying the bag).
There's only so much raking one can do before losing the will to live.
Pen, there's bags you can buy that you put your leaves in to compost over winter.
You spread the leaf-mould around the garden in the spring.
If I had a leaf problem I would want to turn it to my advantage:D
double post 9 mins apart Pen...are you on the Malt?
I do keep them and compost them for the vegetables - it's just they're woefully bad at collecting themselves in a pile :flirty:
Over here in the NL when they collect the leaves they use a special fence for it to dump them in.
Might be an idea to get one of those aswell then.
Well working at Robert Dyas we sold lots of flymo's and ryobi's.
You need to consider whether you want electric or petrol.
The former is lighter than the latter but the extra weight is a compromise for mobility.
ryobi's petrol went for about Ã,£99. I suggest you have a look on the robert dyas site. If you see anything you particulary like. Ring your local store and see if they have any or even a display model. You might get around 10-30% off.
10% for no box, 20% for no box or instructions, 30 for only the product.
Also. If you have a gravel drive from what we were told anyway the suction tube can't tell the difference between leaves and gravel. Maybe they can now but if you have a gravel drive watch out!
Thanks for the help guys.
I ended up with one of these (http://tanakapowerequipment.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=THB-2510) as it's the one the local councils seem to buy and does the job. Have to say I'm pretty impressed with it so far. It strong enough to blow wet and damp leaves and grass cuttings etc.
May invest in the vacuuming and shredding kit but am worried it'll fill up too quickly to be feasible.
Cheers
PEN
Surely these a child about the age of 15 or so that needs some extra cash?
There's a recession don't you know.... I'm trying to cut back on staff not get more :flirty:
Ahh but think about it Pen. The amount of time you save paying someone to do this work for you.
Could be used to do some contract work earning X x more than you are spending on the staff.
Or spending time with you family :) or playing games :)
SAving a couple of hours a week, means you could earn more money. If you earn twice as much as you pay the kid to blow the leaves you've made an hours pay you would have otherwise lost.
I understand the principle but my income is not dictated by the amount of work I put in so in this case it's flawed.
Anyway back on topic, just had a couple of hours in the garden with it and it's superb - very powerful blowey and the vacuum and shred works really well too. I was worried about the bag filling up quickly but the shredding makes it really compact.
Really recommend it if anyone's looking at something similar.

Does it work with children as well as leave's?
Recommend you get some ear defenders if your using it for long periods.
It will also mean swmbo will be unable to rope you in to doing other tasks
:roflmao:
