Title: Backlog?
Post by: OldBloke on September 18, 2003, 11:26:44 PM
Dunno what's happening with the Folding servers but I've got three boxes with multiple units queued up waiting to connect.

Tried recon, reboot but still they wait ....  :(

Buggering a server rarely does anything other than require that the ports are cleaned.
Give it time, servers are downed for maintenance form time to time, some servers get flooded with workload and you will get a queue.  It is pot luck as to how many units get stuck in your queue, but they will get returned.

You can check the server status here (http://folding.stanford.edu/serverstat.html).

But my logs give no indication as to the server they're trying to upload to  <_<

The project list (link shown under 'which WU and how many points' thread) shows which server the project is destined for.  The 'queue' in the GUI client usually shows the destination IP I believe, but if you can't find the IP then use the project to locate the server.

I still had nine units being queued with no sign of them being uploaded so I did some experimenting. I tried lots of different ntl proxies with no luck. Then I unticked the box that said 'use browser settings' and BINGO. Nine WUs sent home.  :D

I have to say that I can find no rhyme nor reason as to which you should tick.  My own machines need the box unticked to use the router.  My father's machine (that I have borged) is on an almost identical set up and he needs the box checked     I mean, it managed to download a WU to start with, so what's the problem uploading?  Go figure.....

9 units sent in     That is the WU equivalent of a tsunami  :D   w2g OB-wan!

If the Stanford server is busy then it will hold it in the queue and then try to re-send it periodically.  The way to force a send is to pause folding, shut down the client, then go online, then re-start the client.  The re-send will usually be triggered automatically at that point.  Remember it will be uploading a reasonable sized file so give it some time.
