Title: Daytrippers
Post by: Penfold on October 07, 2009, 11:52:04 AM
Just a quick one.

I'm working on the spreadsheet in preparation.

Are we charging daytrippers/Socials - the Ã,£10/Ã,£15 Lan fee

AFAIK we have :

Zootoxin, Snokio and Mezzanine as potential one day trippers and ExFlow as a w/e social.

My thoughts would be yes to charging those for the w/e (we've previously charged those who haven't brought a PC) and asking those who come for a day for a voluntary contribution.

Thoughts?

I don't think we can charge visitors the full rate if they don't use the facilities. The LAN fee is to cover the cost of the room hire and a bit towards dMw funds.
If we can work out how much is towards dMw funds then we could charge the visitors that? :g:

Or maybe ask for a voluntary contribution?

So they only thing you can really do is stick a bucket near the door. If people throw their change in then great. If not, no loss.

Well, If it was me daytripping, I wouldn't expect to be charged.
I mean, what are we charging for?
They don't get anything for their money do they?

If it was me, I would chuck in a few quid to the dMw bucket via the auction or whatever, but I wouldn't like to be charged for turning up to say Hello.

I agree. If I just turned up, wandered about for a bit had a chat with folks, sunk a few beers and then went home, I wouldn't expect to pay a fee. However if i set up a PC and took up a seat in the LAN then I would, even if it was just for a single day.

OK that's a good enough consensus and Smilo has nailed it I think.

I agree that there shouldn't be a fee for people literally making a daytrip (ie on Saturday). What I'm seeking clarification on is with the people coming for the w/e and not bringing PC's.

Historically people who have come for the w/e have been charged whether they bring a PC or not. (Doorman for example a few Lans back).

That said, I think Smilo's forumula works well and that's probably a good benchmark to work to.

So:

- The current 'day'trippers - Mexxanine and Snokio -  won't be charged
- The 'weekend'tripper - EzFlow also won't be charged as she's not playing and lending he PC to IceHawk for the w/e
- Oldie also won't be charged as he's coming on the Friday to setup, leaving on Saturday only to return on Sunday to help clear and pick up  LAN server etc.

Does everyone agree that and Smilo's:

"If I just turned up, wandered about for a bit had a chat with folks, sunk a few beers and then went home, I wouldn't expect to pay a fee. However if i set up a PC and took up a seat in the LAN then I would, even if it was just for a single day."

looks like a good demarkation line to me and if everyone's happy to adopt it we'll call it Smilo's Rule :)

I agree, we should be charging for the seat in the LAN room and not for the benefit of our company (obviously worth waayyy more than the LAN fee!).
