Title: XFG at Westhill
Post by: Romus on October 09, 2009, 06:51:15 AM
The start of the race was clean and I even kept my position (if I remember correctly). After a few laps I went wide in the last corner, because of driving too close to Lameduck. Same happened in the next lap.

I had lost a few positions while driving on the grass, so I decided to take an early pit stop and I was hoping that I could do some good laps in the empty track to regain my position and to get back to fighting with Lameduck, CrazyR1, Seany and DeeSlider. It worked well because at about half the race CrazyR1 came out of the pits just in front of me and later on me and Andy could pass both Lameduck and DeeSlider just when they were entering the track from the pits.

So I had about 30 minutes left to race with CrazyR1. I decided to follow him a few minutes and see what happens, especially I wanted to find out if there was a certain place where I should try passing him. T4 was the place where I often was a bit faster than him, but he did not let me through there. :D The other place where I could possibly try passing him was the back straight, but the tight corner after it was not easy if taken very tight from the inside.

So I could not find any really good places to overtake, so I just had to try to be big in his mirrors and hope that the pressure would do something. The race result shows that it did not work. Overall a very enjoyable race with lots of good fighting.

Great race ...

I qualified 4th behind Venca, Jamin and Jack K.  First few laps, Jamin, Jack and I were a tight group, Venca having pulled enough lead to be out of immediate danger.  Jack and Jamin were trading positions right in front of me.  Jack went a bit wide on the left sweeper after the first right, and Jamin and I slipped past.  Jack dogged my rear for a lap and then I did a sloppy job on the last turn letting Jack and Seany slip past.  Got a good draft down the start straight and managed to slip back in front of Seany and Jack, but unfortunately Jack suddenly blipped out of existence    Would have been much different race for Jamin and me if Jack had stayed in the mix :boxing:

Jamin and I had a fun few laps trading position.  I was faster on the big right/left ess at the start, and he was faster thru the corkscrew and final U.  Little contact on the left sweeper at T1 (much like the one obsolum had a question on), but no harm, we both smiled and kept on trucking........but from there, Jamin gradually fell behind bit by bit,  That was lap 11 - Venca was about was 9+ sec ahead of me.  In the next 20 laps I pretty much cruised in the open space between Venca and Jamin.  Managed to stay about 10 sec behind Venca (no chance of catching up!!).

I'd be an old man now if Jamin and I had fought it out for 25 laps....oh, wait, I am and old man :norty:  Great fun with Jamin during the week too on some 6 lappers.  Lots of bumper-to-bumper, side-by-side racing and hardly ever any contact...cheers bud :)

Congrats to Venca - steady and fast as usual

Go on, you know you want to :D

Super racing again. :D
We had good attendance with a quali grid nearing 20. I was having trouble setting a decent time and with a couple of minutes left I was 15th, not good when you are measured against Venca, Jack K and Ben who were in the 2.10ââ,¬â,,¢s. I finally managed to squeeze a 2.11.62 to claim  a respectable 7th .

Everybody seemed to have a clean start and I  had a tussle with Dee for a couple of laps before nipping through to 6th only for Romus to join the battle for a few laps. Romus went wide on the last corner and it was Dee and I battling for the next 15 mins until Dee went down to 12th after dismantling the tyre wall and I was clear. Not.

Dee was replaced by Andy who rattled my cage until he pitted and then Cueball and Somebody played the game of ââ,¬ËœLets pressure Lameduckââ,¬â,,¢.
They finally got past at just over the half-way mark and I pitted. THIS WAS A BIG MISTAKE. I had no need to pit so early, but did it out of habit. As I came out, Crazy, Romus and RichUK whizzed past and Steve (46) was up me chuff. 12th

Deeslider pitted @ approx 40 mins and four of us managed to get past as he accelerated away and I managed to keep him at bay till Ã,¾ distance. Old Bloke pitted next and came out in time to see a huge gaggle of cars in his mirrors.

At the 55 min stage 2.5 seconds covered the five cars in this group. RichUK tipped Cueball off and I was back in THE point. 10th.

Gratz to Venca, Ed &Ben (who had a brilliant race). Ed was only 10 secs behind Venca and Ben only a further 4 secs adrift.

Hard luck on poor Sean who timed out when handily placed and to Jack K who had similar connection problems.

Well done to all who finished, especially Bob the Bike, who set a number of PB laps during the race.:D

A great week, the XFG always makes a fun combo.

I had one of those laps in quali that every sector was a good one and ended up .01 secs behind Venca to get second on the grid. I planned to beat him into the first or second corner like Sean had been doing to me all week but couldn't get past him and off he went as usual. I had Jack K all over me by lap two, we swapped places a half dozen times in the next couple of laps before I got some distance between us and Ed took over hastling him, I hoped they would keep each other occupied whilst I sped off but Jack timed out and within a few laps Ed was hastling me.

All week Ed and me had had some excellent battles :thumb: so I didn't have any tricks he didn't know about, we swapped places for a several laps which was much fun :D until I noticed Sean in my mirror slowly catching us so decided to keep it steady for a while to get some space as I was beginning to take risks, unfortunately Sean timed out  (bad luck mate). I had been too casual in my laps, especially when the conversation on ventrilo turned to lady lumps and my mind wandered so Ed had become uncatchable and my race became a solo run to finish third.

Great combo it was for the week, many enjoyable races.  Not too bothered about the disco, haven't had one in ages and at least I know what caused it :).

The 30 minutes I lasted where great.  The last 30 minutes I spent spectating where also great, lots of battles all the way through the field :D.

Well done Venca Ed and Ben.:yahoo:
