Title: Htc hd2
Post by: OldBloke on October 11, 2009, 10:34:35 AM
Just when I thought I'd be going for the Hero ... this happens (http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/06/htc-hd2-hands-on-and-impressions-on-video/).

What a beast (specs). What a monster (size).

The size is, IMHO, a worrying trend. Are we no longer supposed to carry our mobiles in our trouser pockets? I can see the advantages when using the device but where's the limit? I need to physically hold one to know if it's too big for me but, boy, it's tempting.

Oh and just to further cloud the issue on my pending mobile upgrade ... there could be this (http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/05/htc-dragon-android-device-surfaces-in-firmware-build-could-pack/) :dribble:

It looks seriously nice. I'm no fan of Windows Mobile, no matter how well HTC hide the retched thing, but those specs look great. If they could have given the Hero the same hardware we'd be in smartphone heaven.

HTC can customize as much as they like, but you won't get away from the fact that it's Windows running on the bottom. In my opinion, it would then even be better to for for a (shiver :getmecoat:) iphone...

Sony's (rumoured) entry into the world of Android (http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/sony-ericsson-s-android-x3-new-pics-637083) is the only thing making me hold back from getting an HTC Hero, but still no official word as far as I can tell ...:frusty:

Windows mobile is admittedly not a good a base to start from as Android (which is designed with customisability at heart), but there is a lot you can do with it. Even for my old HTC phone you can download a theme which replaces the majority of the windows interfaces (some of the setting menus are still the old windows ones) and adds slide navigation and slide unlocking etc. It's not bad for free. I know the iPhone came with a very nice one, but if you want to change it I'm sure it would cost (if you even can).
