There seem to be a wealth of new players that regular frequent the CoD server and member in general and you admins in particular are great at doing the whole welcome thing etc - makes people want to come back.
Just wondering how we get them onto the forum and, ultimately, to become dMwer's though?
Perhaps there could be someone who job it is to personally cultivate them or something?
Anyway just an idle thought :)
Have to say that the last few times I've played things are soooo much better now. CoD's about the only game I play now and it's nice that it's got back to its roots. I think the spec thing really helps and you guys are well on the ball. I know CoD takes a fair bit of admin'ing and it's a pretty thankless task but thanks for the hard work.
one idea is to revert back to a private server one night a week.
it would have to be advertised on the public server with details of where and how to register for access to passwords
if we all joined the public server for an hr 1st then all migrated over at a certain time(like on css night) it might entice a few to register and follow us into a private game
First protocal is to advertise what we have to offer, I think we need to obtimise the messages a little that flash on screen, a couple come to mind:
"Come visit our gaming community at www.deadmen.co.uk (http://www.deadmen.co.uk)"
"Registering with dMw is FREE, so register and say hello"
"dMw is a growing tactical and mature gaming community"
And, although this might get the odd person change their 'gaming preferences' why not have a mention about what else dMw offers in terms of games across all gaming platforms, simple message such as:
"dMw community supports L4d, CSS, LFS, COD4 gaming servers" etc
I also agree with Dalankster, I think a private server is a good way to intise players to register, with something like "come join us and play on our private server at 'enter IP address here' or 'website here'.
Same could be said If we decide we go down the creepy server route.
Also with the new forum / webiste on the way, it might get the lurkers to stay around a little longer and register :flirty:
Since the LAN a few more dMw's have been turning up too.
Tutonic, DA, bOOn, to mention 3.
Full server all week so far:D
I was worried that the spec mode would spoil the fun of git spots, but I've found a way around that:flirty:
crouch and look at your feet for 30 seconds..

Well it takes about 5 secs for the player you have just killed to click through to spec you, and if you stare at your feet or a wall for 5 secs after that then you're laughing:D
but don't tell anyone else ok?
I even popped on for a few rounds!!! And I will probably be back. COD4 is actually growing on me the more I play it. I'm a Lance Corporal and everything :boxing:
Great to see you Smilo:D
If you add the game to steam games and join via that, you can use the steam chat feature to invite via a message and private chat in-game (shift/tab)
and if you leave steam running, you will get invites to CoD when a game kicks off.
Enough eggs grandma?:)
Cheers. My only issue is that my voice comms doesn't seem to be working. I'll have to have a proper look as I'm sure it's just a config thing?
Trouble with hiding the gits spots from new players is that you get repeatedly killed by people and you don't know where from and they know where you are going to spawn and you get into the spawn/die/spawn/die cycle.
OK if you want to up your frag count and that is more important than a frenzied firefight to control or liberate a target then fine. But personally I find it a bit annoying when you think you're safe, just spawned and waiting a bit to sound out what is happening where before making your move and then bang you're dead.
Whinge over.
