Title: dMw video
Post by: kregoron on October 27, 2009, 09:31:15 PM
After a little convo between me and jabby in css section, ive been toying around with the idea of creating a kind of DMW promo video..

So im looking for people willing to record some game footage for the video, both really l33t stuff ;) and some fun fun failures or something in that ballrange ;)
Only requirement id say i got is that people recording with fraps to use dual core or better cpu's, so we can get some really nice high resolution footage..

And im in the need of someone really good at making videos and graphics stuff for it, as im not really that awsome in that area ;)

Just checking what resources we got atm, and will see if there is enough willing to help for this project to be really great

Personally i disagree with whats been said so far.

We are a community of mature gamers not people who bunny hop and use exploits if we go for a fraps video we show we are in the same category.

Thats why i would prefer a professionally done interview combined with footage not an in game video with failures.

So a 15-20 minute video made and produced by one of our own members who has a decent camera or such where we talk to and explain who dmw are.

For instance OB and TL can have a small video to show what their role is and what they do, section admins can also do the same and these can be distributed to where they need to be to attract members or in other words the right kind of gamer or simply be put on the main site.

What are your thoughts smilo as the lead for the new site?

Have we got anyone who could set up this sort of scenario. Almost like a parkinson interview where we could ask people questions and show our CS side differs to the norm signs and boundaries.

We have something that no-one else has a keen sommunity base of kind and friendly mature gamers who have avenues in all lines of work we ca make something but i would prefer something of a high standard not something on fraps which a teen could do.

Sorry if what i said was harsh but can you see my point?

:)

Is a seperate video needed for each gaming section? being community based, a video could be created showing snippets of the different games we host and could include some footage of the lan (If people were happy for that to be shown), i don't know how we go about recording and mixing it altogether though :g:

Maybe a video a section is a bit excessive but we have to remember that we are a personal community and we all know each other face to face. I would feel its a strength we can essentially work on and gather members who don't want to be lost in a huge competitive community such as TG.

There was at no point talk about bunny hopping nor exploits, i dont get where you read that, where i meant failures, i meant funny stuff, like people doing fun stuff, like browne dropping one of his famous team nades in css for example.. funny stuff..

About your 15-20 min interview.. this was to be a small 6-9 min promotional video, showing the community and the games we support.. in the line of what sulky posted, quick recap of what we support and game footage of us playing.. To be posted on youtube to get some free PR out there.. a 15 min video of admins talking about what they do and how we improve the community is not a promotional video..

I see your point, but as stated, what you describe is not a promotional video from my point of view, we could create small videos from each section, describing how we play after, as an more elaborat explanation of how we play each game.

Hell, I wouldn't watch a 15-20 minute video of dMw and I love the place :).

If it's going to be done it needs to be punchy, sharp and definitely short. It also needs to be be of half decent production quality. Anything else would be deleterious imo.

I like the sound of it. It's just something to raise awareness that we are here and get people looking at the website and forum.

It's a good plan. I think we could certainly incorporate it into the web site. At the very least we could offer it as an embedded  You -tube video. Or it  could exists as a flash movie that loops around within the home page. Personally I'm more in favour of a linked video but it's definitely worth developing.

Ive already registered the name Deadmengaming on youtube for the purpose of using their bandwith :P

Ive already allied myself with atleast one to make some graphics stuff for the vid, just need some more chaps willing to record some ingame footage, and someone really good at how a video like this should be put together..

Volunteers??? :D

Does dMw Boomer TV have recording facility in it?

I'd be willing to record some stuff maybe on MH on a Friday one week and while I have gone as far as creating a video, I found it hard work (with some practise I'm sure I could get better)

I like the idea.

I reckon Boomer is one of the best places to shoot some footage as it's different from any other CS:S server out there and people will see that straight away.

I think it would be a good idea to get all the footage sorted out first.

Then have it stored somewhere for download, then whoever whats to have a crack at making the video can do.

Maybe have a poll afterwards

I like GM's idea about having interviews but these would need to be short sound bites in the region of 20-30secs per game, and probably played over game footage or nobody is going to watch it.

I also get his point about it needing to be more than just fraps'd game footage - while obviously we wouldn't be bunny hopping around or using exploits, we would certainly be associating ourselves with that kind of mentality by posting just yet another ingame fraps video.

The first video i was planning to be made, was gonna be a short teaser..
And its not just gonna be a fraps of one game fading over to the next game..

Ive actually been writting a kind of "story line" and nearly done, and will be posted later

Excellent idea.

Short hello i am so and so this is what we do.

Kregs idea is great its just working at it from a different angle.

We need something to say "hey this is what we do come join us"

Most of the effects in them CS movies are actually pretty easy to do. I once made a WoW boss kill movie which featured a ton of those effects (got lost in a happy format ages ago though).

The problem with creating such movies is basically, taking the time to do them properly, and having the creativity to know when to use an effect and when not.

Technically they look more advanced than they truely are.

Which is what the video is gonna be containing, my goal isnt to create another go crazy fraps video, it will contain parts of text and voice eloborating what we do and who we are, and showing this is our way of gaming :)

I like this. Share the raw video and let everyone try. Set some rules like

a) has to present dmw as fun yet serious and dedicated
b) has to cover all the supported games
c) maximum of 2 mins

something like that?

My thoughts were to utilise all the power of community into one great video, rather then having our resources split out into several not so great vids..

id rather back off then see that done

I think we should get behind one video and see what can be done. There's absolutely nothing stopping people making more. But as Kregoron says we should pool our efforts. He seems to be furthest along with his idea so I think we should stick to that one idea. Then if there are more ideas we can pursue that would be great.

Hell we could even host our own machinima section if we want. I have a good friend who does WOW Machinima. In fact he won the Blizzcon 2009 Grand Prize for his work. Maybe I could get him to come here and give us some pointers etc?
