GM did a great job sorting some Crucial sponsorship, but:
We were approached at the LAN by Thebhoy & Fatdog who both work for a large IT/technology reseller/distributor in Milton Keynes. They have very good contacts with most manufacturers and are usually able to obtain some fairly decent support (the account managers often arrive at their offices with a box of stuff for them and just say 'help yourself').
We discussed some options and Logitech seemed to be a good place for them to start and they will follow up with Logitech to see what might be available and what might be needed. For example it could range from something straight forward (like a free box of goodies or us needing to put up a poster) right up to the other end of the scale where the box of goodies might be more valuable but they would want a 15 minute slot to 'sell' Logitech to us at the LAN.
Thebhoy & Fatdog do not think the latter is realistically what would happen, they expect more the former, but when the offer is available that's the time for us to assess what might be acceptable to us as a not for profit community.
I would suggest assigning responsibility to someone to follow this up with them and keep on top of it to make sure we get an offer up front to ocnsider in good time for LAN XVII.
If a 15 minute-presentation was done on early Friday afternoon in exchange for some half decent kit to sell then I think it's got potential and I don't suppose anyone would mind.
If that's a viable option and looks like a possibility lets have a look at it.
Either way it's a great opportunity whatever they can come up with :)
Bumps for Sheep to get jiggy with appointing people & giving out the password to get this underway please.
I don't want to sound negative, But I will :g:
Do we need sponsorship? Did it add anything to the last LAN? Is the work not out weighing the benefit?

It netted 35 quid for the memory I think, plus a few quid for other bits and bobs? What was the work involved?
Work involved was zero. We sent an email, they sent free goods. I'm struggling to see any downside Arm.
We can use goods provided for auction (as we chose to do in this case) or for prizes. Either way the community benefits in some way. It's not like we're trying to gain sponsorship for a commercial event, and I would not want the LAN to turn into a big commercial enterprise, but if a few emails can get us some free goodies for distribution then I think it's a positive.
pm sent out to theb and dave mk CC OB TL and PEN re possible stuff and asked for good time for a chat
If we need a bit of extra cash, then go for it. But I don't see any other up side. Especially if we are talking about sitting though presentations.
LANS seem to be turning in to Beer/whisky festivals now days. May be we could get sponsorship form Bowmore
