Dont know how many of you know about using a "main assist" in raids is somthing that sog used doing 40 man stuff to control targeting
Its somthing that we have not used in DMR as we have been lucky enough to have some fantastic aoe tanks.
Im sure someone can inform me of the best way to use them tho in a nutshall its a dedicated player for the dps to follow when things start to get messy. You follow that players target using /assist playername. I saw an example on this with yogg last night, many of the tenticals had been hit say 30% before people moved onto what we needed killing. The way i see it any way we can make targeting quicker will improve dps. Also it will free people up to focus on the fight more so you can see that patch of fire instead of searching for that next thig to kill
I would like to give it a bash next raid to see if it helps or not
Any thoughts on how best to make it work would be welcome .. im sure some of you have used it before. My first thought is to follow a ranged maybe a hunter
aha so the idea is we make someone the "DPS target-er" for a run. sounds like a solid plan, would be nice for 1e Boss from ToC when switching to Snobolds to.
Might even have 1 ranged and 1 melee "DPS target-er".
I use that macro on all my dps toons and it saves a chunk of time. Usually I edit it for the tank I follow.
Just Installed
/focus [modifier:alt]
/stopmacro [modifier:alt]
/cleartarget
/assist focus
To save having to enter a playername you just set the focus on a player (tank or other dps) with the alt key and then click the button again without the alt to assist.
....a handy and obvious improvement to something I have been using since Molten Core days but never thought about implementing! Thanks!

Like i told you yesterday its an awsome idea and first time i ever heard about this but it can maximize our dps very greatly if all uses it for sure this is a must for us or all that raids so for sure we need to fix this as it will improve dps so dramatic on single target its crazy.
...no one ever heard of Main Assist?
I thought we just weren't using it anymore since the Raid icons came (skull, X etc)...
In Vanilla WoW this was *the* method of dps from PuG Stratholme all the way up to Naxx40 :)
It's a handy method for quickly selecting a target, yes, but I don't see it dramatically increasing dps. It's the same as when you're told to hit the skull basically.

True but with fights like yoggy it would help.

the reason its a huge improvement is beacue its not possible to change target quickly when many mobs, on many target mobs it will have a huge dps increase or at least it should if all is done correct. meaning that on a boss fight with no mobs its not very handy as u only have one target but in fight with mobs that need single target dps it will improve the dps dramatically.

I dont know if melee could benefit the same unlees they are bunched up, but for ranged it will have big impact.
regards putting assist as a focus ... may cause problems as your focus may be used on a different mob.

Only thing that springs to mind is Thorim, since that fight is the only fight where there are alot of adds, and single target dps is required. Still, you'd expect people to have a "/target skull" or whatever the syntax is, kind of macro set up if they have difficulties targetting in groups :>

Well Yogg is a fight were u need this macro because you dont have much time before a crusher is up and that time is best spendt to dps the corruptors if i get the name right, and no doubt and there u have to belive me it will improve the dps on that target, and that is very important so we dont get swarmed by them in p3.

Also it keeps dps on same target, and even if you say a skull will appear it is always 10 sec to late and that is exactly the 10 sec we need to dps. also if the skull is behind you u cant see it but using the macro you will get a massage u are the wrong way and u will turn around were it is, could imagne it would be good for constrictors to to get them down quick.
