Well fingers crossed it will be good :D
Videos look awesome though

Too early to tell atm, as its still 4 months away...
It looks really promising http://www.gametrailers.com/video/africa-harbour-battlefield-bad/58728
And keep in mind that this is xbox360 image. And no way they can fork this up like IW did to MW2, as Dice has said BC2 will have dedicated servers and own PC engine so it is not limited by consoles in any way.
Ok that video is more like it looks good :)
Although reminds me a lot of HL2 models for some reason....
Since BFBC2 will almost certainly be considered for dMw adoption, shouldn't this thread be in your Gaming Development section Ghosty? :P

So when will battlefield night be again?
I think it would be a great warm up to get 1943 at start of January for 9.99Ã,£.
What do others think ?
where do i sign ......
Wow.
I've paid very little attention to this so far, but some of the Multiplayer footage looks fantastic.
Wow. Mayhem.
From EA's Battlefield blog:
QuoteComing December, we will invite players to participate in a PC open beta. Then, early next year, all players worldwide will get to experience this premier shooter when we releases a Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer DEMO on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be available on March 2, 2010 in North America and March 5, 2010 in Europe for the Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC.
EA must be laughing their socks off at IW's fiasco. They'll clean up with Bad Company, you see.

This is on my wanted list for sure
New footage of the beta: http://g4tv.com/videos/42695/Battlefield-Bad-Company-2-Direct-Feed-Walkthrough/?quality=hd
Makes me smile :)
I prefer battlefield to CoD games. I think if this has dedicated servers this would make a good game for us. It's quite tactical, though the high player numbers that would be needed might make it less suitable. It would need play testing at least.

I remember back in 2005 BF2 had a early beta maybe even in 2004.
Hopefully the beta will come to pc if it does and we can get enough people on it i want to trial it so fingers crossed :D.
Although i hope the pc controls and menu's are different they do look very console based
However, with my critical hat on the graphics don't look as though they have come on far from BF2 but this is on a console so maybe thats all the ps3 can handle.
I'm desperately in need of some BF2 type gameplay.
I hope this game will fit the bill.
If not, how about resurrecting BF2?:norty:

You should read couple of posts up. The pc-beta will be on December and demo on early 2010. Luckily for us, Dice is making the frostbite engine costomized to the PC, hence there has not been any PC footage as they are still making it. So there should be whole different game for PC and consoles as Dice has stated them self that consoles limit certain things. And it will be supporting DX11 so go and buy your self a new card, you'll need it.
And those graphics looks the best that I have ever seen on PS3 so I'm betting that if your comp has the juice to run BC2 it will look awesome.
An interview with Dice about dx11 http://game.amd.com/us-en/content/images/play/gameassets/DICE/DICE_11Days_Interview.pdf
Nice to hear a (DICE) Developer talking sense:
The PC as a platform is very important also in the long term, as it is a free
and open platform where it is up to only the developer to innovate and find a
model for his/hers game that works compared to only working within the
walled gardens of a fixed console (although that can have its benefits as
well).
It is no surprise to me that some of the fastest growing and most innovative
sections of the games industry are on the PC if you see it as a whole with
MMOs, Play4Free games (like Battlefield: Heroes) and social media games.
I see this as a continuing trend and orthogonal to console gaming, although I
would also prefer to see more of the multi-platform games taking their time
to adapt them to the PC to take advantage of its unique strengths. We will try
to do our part.

Well said :D
There has not been too much info about the PC play as the game engine is not finished yet. But as we are getting dedis I would assume that we can change the game options, but for how much it is a mystery at this point.
Edit: HD-quality gameplay from the PS3 -beta. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb4MAR_sv5A
Looks good, a lot of the new "features" are what was already part of BF2 and what made it a great game, but the environmental damage wasn't too good and this looks to have addressed that.
The new game modes looks to be a welcome addition as well and will fit in with our style, whereas the old CTF style was okay under AAS, but impossible to play in normal mode with limited numbers.
BF2 was great, but the long games was a turn off for some people.
If our servers are still around then they are out of date anyway, but with the release of the latest patch you now have free access to all the expansion packs as well.
Ah, the long Sunday nights on a dusty Karkand street. :crying:

I have bough 3 last games from EA through that EA download manager and it has worked like a charm. Uses full speed on download and very easy to use.
Maybe it has gotten better after you have last used it ?
I also have the game pre-ordered and a nice shiny card to play it on :D I just hope it is as least as good as bf2. I miss bf2 alot!!! having spent 800 hours of my life playing it I still look for the bf2 replacement. :yahoo:
BF2 is on steam so fingers crossed for this too.
EA tried to copy steam with it's EA LInk program.
Then they replaced it with EA downloader.
I would prefer to buy it through steam or via cd/ dvd as a couple of friends have had to rebuy games through EA downloader as there was a huge mix up during the changeover as to who owned what.
How convenient :sideways:
From EA blog:
QuoteHey all,
We wanted to update you, and slow the flood of tweets, on questions surrounding the BFBC2 PC Beta being cancelled. I'll get right to it and say "the BFBC2 PC Beta is not cancelled". Now this all started due to changes made to an earlier blog that removed the PC Beta from the details and the reason for this was the plan changed. With the huge success of the PS3 Beta we decided to drastically increase the PC Beta's capacity to insure as many people as possible could participate. Unfortunately this meant we had to delay the Beta to very early next year giving us more planning time to make it happen and implement more optimizations.
Here is a recap of the current PC features, and we can now confirm DX11 support with more details to come later!
PC Enhanced Features
* Up to 32 Players on PC (24 on consoles) - Play with up to 32 players online in the biggest multiplayer Maps in Battlefield. Each with a different tactical and gameplay focus set across a variety of environments.
* Full DirectX 9, 10 & 11 Support - Immerse yourself in the Battlefield world as Frostbite engine brings tanks, helicopters and explosions to vivid life on your PC. The game will fully support Windows XP, Vista, and 7 with new tech that further improves things like lighting and shadows.
* Enhanced Gameplay - The PC version also includes wide peripheral support like Joysticks for flying, NVIDIA 3D Vision, Logitech LCD Keyboards and VoIP Support plus a variety of specific features tailored for PC play.
* Friend Support - Find your friends online with the new buddy list to see if and who is online so you can quickly join their game.
* Dedicated Ranked Server - Everyone gets non-stop action with no connection penalties based on some other player's internet. Ranked Server Provider program will give players opportunity to rent their own server(s) located in professional grade datacenters, ability to modify settings like map rotation, create reserved slots for friends or clan members, kick & Ban players, and custom name your ranked server.
* Clan Support & Private Servers - Independent Clan Tag, and ability to rent servers for hosting and controlling private password protected competitive servers with expanded control over the settings from public ranked servers.
* PC Squad Play System - Updated from previous Battlefield PC titles now gives control of your squad before heading into combat.

Kinda makes you want to fire BF2 up does it not.
Is it just me or have they carefully avoided mentioning the ability to host your own server...
Remember the problem we had attracting new players to our BF2 server because it was never ranked. This could be similar.
I've got no problem playing on a ranked server even with a DMW set of rules. If it has enough admins I think we could keep this under control. DMW has enough mature players to act as admins or at least spotters to be the eyes or the admin I think it could work.

Surely the problem here is actually getting hold of a ranked server.
I'm assuming that they are going down a similar road to that of BF2, if you want a ranked server you have to buy one from a partner - you can't just host one yourself.
We then get the problem of having nobody playing on our server, because it isn't ranked :(

I'm under the impression that we might not be able to run our own server at all. This latest blog post seems to go out of its way to avoid mentioning the ability to do so without explicitly saying it. In fact AFAIK while EA/Dice have been quick to point out that BFBC2 will have dedicated servers they've never actually mentioned that the public would be able to run them.
The server provision will be exactly the same as BF2 was. You will need to go to a recommended GSP to get a ranked server. You will still have control over that server through a variety of different control panels. BF2CC was by far the best method for doing that so hopefully they will be able to get something up quickly. You are however correct if you want to host your own server on your own box you will need to have it unranked. It will obviously be upto the powers that be to make a decision on getting a server or not but I can guarantee that it will be very difficult to get a full server without it being ranked. 32 man server needs to be full to make it fun. A dozen people running around just does not have the same enjoyment. I have used a good few companies for ranked BF2/ 2142 servers but that does not mean they will get GSP this time round.

Relatively low specs for a brand new game. Hopefully if ranked servers are do-able this could have a decent adoption rate.
I have been playing the PS3 beta now for few days and it is a very promising game. I haven't played the previous Battle fields at all except maybe some demos so I am talking about what I have seen in this game and tell what I think is new. Also it is a PS3 game and played with a controller so that changes a lot.
Starting from graphics, they look very pretty and the amount of details is insane. Hard to say what the graphics will look on PC but DX11 can't be a bad thing if you have seen some demos about it. And the amount of stuff you can blow up is only a good thing. Makes me all fluffy and warm inside when I see someone camping in a building and can shoot the walls off with a tank.
In the beta there are vehicles including tank, humvee, ATV and UAV flying robot that you can control. Pretty obvious which is the power order in these ones but the lighter ones are not useless at all, with UAV you can call airstrikes and locate enemies, with a humvee you can farm players running around etc. In the full game there should be choppers at least and maybe even something more.
The squad mode brings some tactics into the game, you can spaw at the basic location or to a squad member which usually is closer to battle than the basic location. Or a medic with the defibrator that can resurrect a player from the dead. And hard to really tell how good it will work on PC as PS3 limits the tactics as there is not a chat or proper voice comms. But with players knowing what to do and when it turns into a great fun that really feels like a war, you got people running trying to find some cover while some camps inside the buildings trying to defend them. It is like a good action movie. One example of a good tactic is know that one tank is pretty much scrap metal when you enter the battlefield alone, but with a engineer fixing the tank while in combat it take a lot more punishment and a humvee in right position can secure a large area.
The beta has one game mode and it is the attack/defence so you are either attacking or defending some key points. Good thing is that you got 2 key points to defend at the start and when the enemy destroys them the area expands and you need to retreat to next set of defence points. Same thing with the attacking side, game area expands when you gain the points you need. This brings some dynamics into it, so you can't just run over a huge area but you need to concentrate on the key areas.
So what about the minus sides, well first of all game pad ain't made for gun games. But more seriously I haven't found any real bad screw ups in it. Might be that I am still in the starters ecstasy. Sometimes other players might feel a bit overpowered as they are on higher levels and have unlocked more powerful guns. But the actual level gaining is not hard as you get all sort of assist points etc. And you can pick up better guns from dead people, but you will loose them on dying. And while people have complained about over powered snipers, I don't think so. They have their moments when they are hidden somewhere far in the cliffs but when in close corner combat they are useless. Or like a tank might feel invincible but when it enters the smaller streets, with few good hits with an RPG from the houses and it is a smoking piece of scrap metal. It all comes down to playing the game right.
Can't wait for the PC beta :thumb:
Does anyone know where to get an EU PS3 beta key from? I hear there's a PC beta coming next year but it would be nice to give it a go on the console to see what it's like.

I got mine from their twitter page as they make sometimes open beta key distribution but there you need to be REALLY fast. One way would be to buy a PS3 copy from a certain retailer or hope that some major gaming sites get Beta codes to deliver but sadly that requires a good luck. One German site got 600 keys and they wen't in under 6minutes.
New map revealed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJ9fTM-bC9Y
QuotePanama Canal features a tight battle with abandoned industrial buildings, vehicles, large ships, and piles of debris everywhere with billowing smoke off in the distance as the surround forest rages of fire while the surrounding city is bombarded by enemy ballistics. The map has a four-flag setup, with two flags being more focused on vehicle warfare with IFVs and MBTs. The center flags are infantry focused and the team in control of either centre flag will get access to an attack helicopter or an AA vehicle, respectively.
Check out this gameplay preview and see both American and Russian forces fight for control of tactical points in the classic Battlefield "Conquest" Mode.
I will continue my monologue with new footage:
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/squad-deathmatch-battlefield-bad/60101
Gents, it is on!
QuoteInterestingly, EA and DICE have introduced a new feature for the game. Called Realism mode, body parts can be more realistically damaged, and it take fewer shots to make a kill. Friendly fire is on, there is no kill cam, mini map is gone, enemies don't show up with icons, and there is no crosshair. It is a mode for people well beyond my skill level, and the ranking here should help separate the wheat from the chaff.

you can pre purchase the limited edition from game.co.uk, either Ã,£24.99, or download for Ã,£34.99, this was a link direct from http://www.battlefieldbadcompany2.com/#/reserve-limited-edition so this might be eligable for beta testing? For those that dont want to create an account this is from the blog.
As promised here is the PC Blog on the Beta & a few other things, yes some people, places, and things may have leaked a little something, but we are here to clarify everything and make it all official since we can now commit to the listed dates! :-)
BETA Details:
Beta Begins/Ends
Jan 28th/Feb 25th
Map Name
Port Valdez
Players
32
Game Mode
Rush
Environment
Snow
Theme
Vehicle and Infantry
Back Story
The battle for Port Valdez is fought alongside the waterline towards a great oil industrial landscape in the Alaskan mountains. Using basically everything they've got the Russian forces are launching an airborne assault to knock out the oil industries in the area. In their arsenal there are Main Battle Tanks as well as fast-moving Quad Bikes and mobile armored AA. It's a vehicle focused battle, but with plenty of infantry combat.
How to Download: Check back to the Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta Page closer to beta launch date for download instructions.
How To Get Access: Reserve Battlefield Bad Company 2 is the most sure fire way, but we are still working with Retailers & e-Tailers that wish to participate (it's up to them). If you're eager to ensure you get in the two confirmed distributors to Pre-Order are the EA Store and at GameStop.com. We'll have another Blog at a later date with an update on the retailers & e-Tailers that have teamed up with us as well as alternate channels to obtain a Closed Beta Key.
Misc. Details
Steam Beta: Yes there was a leaked image of a Package file we propped on Steam. People with illegal accounts can see games in this environment, but this is not a Beta in the term of Public Test Beta, but a real development Beta installer client for the Steam version of the full game. We are however working with Steam to have the Public PC Beta available on Steam, but can't confirm this quite yet so cross your fingers Steam users. :-)
Anti Cheat: We're going with PunkBuster supporting the same options BF2 and BF2142 had to run unranked without PunkBuster.
Mod Tools: There will not be mod tools for BFBC2. However a majority of the the games logic is controlled by the server and there will be Serverside control options for the dedicated servers.
Public Server Files: We will not distribute these publicly. There are many factors for why we have decided this with the biggest factor being security & integrity of our game & Dedicated Servers.

Bad news: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/01/22/bfbc2-single-player-server-rental-beta/
Dedicated servers must be ranked, and therefore can only be run by 'approved partners'. Bummer :(
Same as BF2. Not that big a deal in my opinion. It just means the server has to be rented from an approved vendor to allow ranking.
We had a BF2 server many moons ago, does this mean they are already approved? (unless they were rented from somewhere else of course) :g:
No. we just ran it unranked. the downside being very little public interest in the server

Quote from: Lexander;302304Any ideas how much the renting would cost ?
From memory the price is normally around Ã,£1 a slot for newer games. So it could be around Ã,£30 a month. When you start to get several servers it becomes easier to just rent a dedicated box form them so you have a whole box to yourself. That starts to become expensive though. A decent box is around Ã,£100+ a month. What ever happens it pays to pay well getting cheap servers is nightmare for both performance and backup.

Might make the price more competitive. I don't think new games justify a Ã,£35 price-tag at launch very often. Especially when the multiplayer (95%+ of the times I'll spend playing) is an unknown element.
If the pack gets made and manages Ã,£20-25per head price tag I'll be pre-ordering for sure.
