I'm trying to free up some hd space and whilst looking at Add or Remove Programs, the 3rd & 4th largest programs are Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service pack 2, and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service pack 2 weighing in at a hefty 183.00MB & 178.00MB respectively.
That seems incredibly large, and why should I need 2 versions?
they both say used rarely.
Is it safe to get rid of 1 of them?

.NET is a framework that other programs use so although it says you rarely use them you could have several programs that require them. Best to leave them where they are unless you're sure you don't have anything that requires them.

And service packs are usually filled with bugfixes and security patches, which MS loves so much. Many websites use active x controllers that use some form of .NET, so your better off with it installed. If you however feel that your HDD needs slimming, you could try to uninstall it (.NET all together, not just the SPs) and see what breaks, you can always reinstall it from MS's sites (or windows update (maybe)).
