Title: Moon

Watched this last night. An excellent film by a second time British Director Duncan Jones  (son of David Bowie). It starts the brilliant Sam Rockwell and is an absolute gem of a film. There are basically only two characters in the whole movie, Sam Rockwell who plays a lone operative working on a corporate Moon Base and the Base computer voiced by Kevin Spacey. And apart from a couple of video feeds from earth that's it. Or is it?

In a nutshell Sam Rockwell's character (also called Sam) is two weeks from ending his tour on a mining base located on the Moon. Due to technical malfunctions his live feed to earth has broken and he can only communicate by sending and receiving messages via a space relay orbiting Jupiter. Therefore Sam's comm's is delayed by several days. This coupled with the fact he had very little actual work to do is making his time on the base tortuously boring.

On a routine check of a piece of mining equipment Sam crashes his moon vehicle. The vehicle is wrecked and he is knocked unconscious. Although completely alone on the moon somehow he wakes to find himself back in the base in the medical bay. How did he get back there? Is there someone else there with him?  :g:

And so the main story begins. To tell any more would be unfair. However don't worry that the writer has written some weak 'he's gone mad and imagined everything' story. This story is much more intelligent than that. There are real shades of 2001: a Space Odyssey here. In fact it's quite possible they two films could share the same fictitious world. This is one of those old school proper science fiction films, like 2001 and the similar Silent Running.

Also DON'T check this film out a web site that gives a cast list. Sadly the full cast list will explain a lot of the plot of the film. This isn't some M Night Shyamaian twisty plotted Sixth Sense type film. Once the film gets going it not the mystery that keeps us interested but the quality of the plot and acting. However it's best to go into the film without any 'spoilers'.

So before anyone ruins it by letting slip what's going on grab this film and give it a watch. It really is a quality movie.

I watched this film a few weeks back and I have to say its totally gripping and brilliant.

For a film with one character and a voice you would expect filler and drawn out scenes.....Not in this film I was on the edge of my seat for the whole movie completely engrossing and subtle

5 Stars

Thank god. I can't stand his "Wait a minute... I'm dead!" plotlines :sideways:

Just watched this film. I enjoyed it.

From a little after the medical bay incident the way the film is going to unravel is fairly straight forward. It doesn't try to hide it, and it doesn't want to.

The film from then becomes about the acting and direction.

Great film, 5/5.

This is one that can be watched over again.

Very good. 2 commutes and a gym session got me through it. Well acted, nicely paced. Highly recommended.

Thanks for touting this one, I never would have left this one 4  (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=302752#post302752)dead on the shelf.
