It would be fun if we mixed the teams so that it wasn't just dMw vs Scrapheap.
Title: How about an in-house tournament?
Post by: OldBloke on September 02, 2002, 07:49:28 PM
In true democratic style - I will pick the teams.

They will be made up from a mixture of all interested players based on their perceived skill rating.

I aim to end up with four evenly-matched teams.

BTW - this is first come, first served so if you want to play then say so now.

Here's my first cut at team selection. As the aim of the day is to have four balanced sides I am willing to consider making changes to achieve this.

The team captains are at the top.

OldBloke
Aga
Blueball
Doorman
Sadako
Sheepy

Gandalf
DCG
Snooks
Squonk
Toxteth O'Grady
Urang Utang

TeaLeaf
FatBob
Frenzy
MAD_ness
Rad_Man
Trip

Tutonic
FBG
JAS
MisterEggs
Ninja_Freak
Smite

Team leaders to come up with a name for your team please. 8)

Will the new map pack be tested before this date?

Sunday 6th October 2pm BST. All meet in #deadmen (you will need an IRC client) including any possible reserves.

The whole event (8 matches in total) will be on a single map TBA (suggestions?).

3 points for a win, 1 for a draw.

Running order decided by availability (get home asap Sheepy  )

My team's name will be Veterans = VETZ  8)

The new map pack is a priority as soon as the new server is up. Honest.

I think it would be good if we used a map that none of us were too familiar with - skill/luck may win over map knowledge.

Aw what the hell, use a map I know :-)

de_volare http://www.counter-strike.de/mapreviews/map.php?ID=768 (http://www.counter-strike.de/mapreviews/map.php?ID=768)

de_sampa http://mataleone.counter-strike.com.br/php...e_sampa&lang=en (http://mataleone.counter-strike.com.br/php/mondo.php?map=de_sampa&lang=en)

de_bitterwine http://www.counter-strike.de/mapreviews/map.php?ID=752 (http://www.counter-strike.de/mapreviews/map.php?ID=752)

What do you think?
They are equally hard on either side and requires good team play. And the maps are new to almost everyone.

Not exactly TL, to be able to talk to anyone else you need to chose any of the Quakenet list of servers.  When mirc 1st loads up the page you see is where you insert your nickname, e-mail(fake obviously) and real name (fake again).  At the top of this page is a long list of server providers, choose the Quakenet servers and then press connect.  If you want to join a room then type  /join #deadmen (for example.) All rooms start with a # and any can be joined by doing the same above.  Hope this helps a bit.

Just a thought but there's many Java based irc clients that dont need the likes of mIRC to access the quakenet servers.  Try searching on google for "quakenet java based irc"  i found a good few, but i'm unable to test em because XP wont download Microsft virtual machine for Xp, and there's no way i'm upgrading to service pack 1.  Not with my "legally dubious" copy of XP.

AWPS

Yes I'm that guy who keeps em on the server :-)

However, for our little league we will be playing for competition... that way I feel the awp good will rule will go out the window.

To that end I suggest for the duration of our sunday league ONLY we remove the awp.... being as we will be playing to PCS n all.

Can we have PCS but with slightly relaxed boundary's.  Beaing able to cirlce around the back of an advancing enemy is part and parcel of playing a game. And i feel that this may be somewhat of a no-no in certain areas of the Train map.

there shouldnt be boundries "inforced" as it is match based, but i dont think that there is anyone here who would stretch the boundries that much anyway as we are all so used 2 sticking to them. i even stick to them on public servers [probably why i play so crap on em]

If we're using a standard map then PCS shouldn't be a problem for any of us.

It might be a little different if a custom map is used because the boundaries are probably not known as well, certainly not by me.

On the question of PCS for the tourney, i'd prefer PCS stylee tbh, but as everyone playing is pretty much switched on i'm sure it won't matter that much anyway.

Thinking about it, it's so rare that i play non-PCS now that it's a real effort to play any other way.  :D

Title: HLTV is/will be working
Post by: DogMeat on October 04, 2002, 09:40:19 PM
HLTV is working on MH as I post this.  My method of connecting to it is:

Start | Run | " -game cstrike -console -numericping -noipx +connect 80.71.3.50:27020 +password "

All on one line, and where for me is "F:Half-Lifehl.exe" and is the password for Meat Hook.

If HLTV goes down during the tourney, think long and hard before bitching to me about it - particularly if I'm in the middle of a match...

I've been playing ....

I've worked out that if you add:

-window 640x480

to the end of the command line then HLTV conveniently starts in a window which, in theory, would allow you to still use IRC.

However, on my XP based system the window is always centered on the screen and cannot be moved.  :x

Also, to get mouse control back I have to press the Windows key.

Shame really cos it would have been ideal to watch the tourny matches in one window while still being able to 'chat' in irc.  :(

Anyone else wanna give it a try?
Title: How about an in-house tournament?
Post by: DogMeat on October 05, 2002, 10:37:46 AM
Press the Windows key and then right-click the icon in the upper-right corner of the HLTV window (mine shows the Half-Life icon).  If you do it right, you get a dropdown with Move, Resize, Minimise etc. items.  Select Move and put the window where you want it. :sunny:

Dunno if its going to change in the mean time, but the HLTV is actually running on 127.0.0.1:27020 and not the IP specified by DM previously.  May i make a request that "blockvoice 1" is on the HLTV proxy as otherwise the spectating teams may be able to hear the tactics of people they are about to play, dont have to state why this is bad i hope.

Yes I know HLTV is running on the MH IP - that's why I set up a alternate proxy so that HLTV spectators don't choke MH.  If I catch anyone connecting directly to MH, I'll pull the plug on the whole thing immediately.

DO NOT CONNECT HLTV DIRECTLY TO MEAT HOOK - USE 80.71.3.50:27020[/SIZE]
